Before I start this I just want to say I'm a tent & leantoo camper so I'm not high maintenance but when I pay $140 for one night for a queen size bed I expect a decent room. When you get there you have to call a number to check in. We walked into the office and also walked around without seeing anyone. The guy who checked us in was very friendly and room was clean, whomever cleans their rooms does a good job, for what their working with. The bed was so uncomfortable and the sheets were very cheep not that I need supper high tread count sheets but my cheep sheets at home feel 100 times better. I had a horrible nights sleep. Just a little update would fix this. They don't offer any type of room service, not that we needed it for one night but if you're there longer you will. You have to call and request new linen. The room is very small but a plus is they're non-smoking rooms. This room is not worth $140 it's more like a $60 to $80 a night room. I will not stay here again unless they bring their prices down, it's to expensive for what you get. If they did some updating, like carpets, fixing the shower the hot and cold is backwards, newer sheet and level the bed it's crooked it would be better.

We stayed here 1 night after a family event in Charlestown. I made a reservation for a 2 Queen bed room with kitchenette and balcony a few weeks prior by emailing and calling Lorie. She said as long as there was nobody in the room the night before, there should be no problem checking in early. We arrived at 1 pm. There was nobody at the reservation desk, so I called the number on the sign. I could hear the phone ringing in the room adjacent to the desk, but the clerk did not bother to come out. He said that there were NO EXCEPTIONS to the 3 pm check in time. We came back after the event around 7 pm and caught the desk clerk just as he seemed to be leaving. The room (#11) was hideous. My husband wanted to leave right then and there but we had already paid and to go home would be a 4 hour drive. Upon opening the door, a blast of cold air hit us followed by the must. Somebody had left the air conditioner running full blast. We opened the window for a few minutes to heat up the room until the mosquitoes started to come in through the screen rips. The room looked like it had not been updated since the 1960's. The only thing that seemed up-to-date was the flat screen TV bolted into the ceiling with cable wires dangling. The refrigerator and microwave were dirty as well as the counter under the microwave. Although there was a sink in the kitchenette, there was no dish soap, kitchen towels, paper towels, coffee maker, silverware, plates or cups so we couldn't even microwave hot water for tea or instant coffee. The sheets were colored brown -- perhaps to hide any stains? The bathroom had no hair dryer. The balcony view was of the highway. The only nice thing about the place was the couple of fluffy white bath towels in the linen closet. We tried to connect to WiFi -- I even called downstairs to confirm that there WAS WiFi -- but neither my husband or I could find the WiFi address. After a fitful sleep, we showered and left for home as soon as we could. I had developed a sinus headache breathing in the must which was only partially relieved by 3 Tylenols; I still had the headache the next evening.

My boyfriend and I only stayed one night, but I would highly recommend staying at this motel! The staff was so kind and helpful, and when we had a problem with our room we were immediately given a new one : ). The motel is easy to find, and the suites are huge! They have two sizable (and crazy comfortable!!!) beds, a fridge, a microwave, and even an a balcony outside. Everything was very clean and the AC worked great. We will be definitely be returning here on our next trip to RI!

If you're looking for a quick overnight stay where no one will bother you - this is the place! If you want to see on-site management or cleaning people - this is not the place for you. Expect to see no management or employees while you are there, once you've checked in & paid.ss||||On our recent visit, we arrived about a half an hour after check-in time. The office door was open, so we went in. No one was there. There was no bell. We waited about 5 minutes then went outside & eventually saw a man approaching. It turns out he was hired to manage the property for the summer, but mostly stays in his RV where he's living while on the property. He checked us in & showed us our room. He told us to call the number at the bottom of our receipt if we needed anything, and to leave used towels outside the door to let room people know what we needed.||||The room was clean & spacious. The kitchenette area came with nothing, not even glasses, so be sure to bring glasses, utensils, paper towels, etc. After settling in, I needed to connect to wifi & called the number given to us & left a message. No response. We went down to the office where the door was still open. No one there.||||We gave up & went to dinner. When we got back, we went to sit on the deck & realized there were no chairs. Again we called the number & left a message. No response. We carried the 2 kitchen chairs out & made do.||||The next morning we left our towels outside the door as instructed around 9 am & then spent the day at the beach. Upon returning around 5 pm, the towels were still there & no one had entered the room. We called the number again with the same result. This second night, however, no other rooms were occupied & no one else was in sight. We decided to put a table up against the door when we went to bed. The next day we went to the office to check out. No one there. We left the key on the desk and were on our way. ||Summary -- Clean, spacious room, easy parking, nice beds. Interesting, historic property. Room not very well equipped (no cups/glasses, no light over bed, no table next to bed). Customer service did not exist.

The room was large clean and comfortable. It could use some updating. It would have been nice to have coffee for coffeemaker and tissues in bathroom. The pillows on bed need an update and the TV mounted on wall is too small for size of room. We still enjoyed our stay.

We made advanced reservations with a late check-in at the Windswept Inn. Upon arrival, there was no one at the office to check us in. After calling the general manager, they still could not locate anyone to check us in. We waited over an hour in the parking lot, with a 2 year old, at 11:00pm before someone was able to check us in. We were told that our reservation was not put into the system and that there was a mix up on their end. We were told that we would be compensated for the inconvenience with a discounted rate on the room. However, at check-out we were informed that the owner said that he would not offer any discount on the room. Bad customer service - as they did not follow through on their word.||||The bathroom was dirty, as it had dirt on the shower walls and the sink area. The bed sheets had hair and sand on them. ||||Value room for the price - but don't expect quality.

We made a reservation here on trip advisor and paid in full on a credit card. A few days before going we called to confirm and were told we had no reservation. We made a new one and again gave our credit card info. Upon arrival, no one was in the front office and the buildings seemed to be abandoned. After waiting 30 minutes we found someone who gave us a phone. The man on the phone told us that we did not have a reservation and began rambling about working for homeland security and how he worked there. He was extremely rude and was not making sense. Although their sign said vacancy, we had pre paid, and there appeared to be not a single guest, we were turned away with nowhere to stay. In hindsight we are glad to have no stayed there as it was extremely creepy, deserted, and we were obviously being taken advantage of. Don't trust this website or the people on the phone to make you a reservation, they are either a fraud or just crazy.

We regularly visited Charlestown Town Beach for many years and stayed at a small motel that has since, due to the owners' passing, gone out of business. As we surveyed the accommodations on Trip Advisor and other sites we discovered that the only ones available were either the tried and true places that have been in business forever and a day (and not kept up their properties in all that time) or high-end hotels with onerous one-night price tags far from Charlestown itself. So, we dug a little deeper and came up with the Wind Swept Inn. From the highway and even up close it doesn't look like much, however, the room we had was clean, well-appointed and -- here's where I ding the property a half a star -- a really small cable ready 19 inch TV mounted on the wall. The vaulted ceiling was all wood and our fridge was cold and kept all our of sandwiches and waters cold overnight. Although we had been promised a continental breakfast the next morning, the general manager of the property who was warm, friendly and guest-centric explained that it had been discontinued about a year ago -- which is where the other half-star for this review comes in -- it was fine as we found another place down the road to grab coffee and pastry that morning. Overall, I recommend this property highly as it is satisfies our three measures of accommodation not just in Rhode Island, but anywhere in fact: it's comfortable, clean and convenient and we recommend it to anyone staying in the Charlestown area who really wants something better than tired old properties or poorly reviewed accommodations in making a visit here.
