This hotel is very special. You definitely feel like you are going back in time. They know what’s important like comfortable beds and a clean bathroom so you get a nice stay with a feel of an old town hotel. Thing to warn about is, there is no elevator. We showed up late at night and hadn’t thought through where we would keep our skis so we ended up carrying skis and luggage all the way to the third floor. Being up so many flights of stairs, we really thought about what to bring before going to and from the room because it was such a hike up to the room. The staff was very receptive through email and text. We never met face-to-face with anyone who we we had been communicating with. Don’t plan on the breakfast – it’s not worth eating when there are so many great breakfast places nearby. Overall. I would definitely stay at the Truckee hotel again!

Tried to book over the phone as I was driving all day and behind the wheel. Reached the front desk who refused to talk to me, web bookings only. I explained I was a driver and asked if I could book over the phone. Absolutely not. Cool. Very hospitable.

Affordable place to sleep, but not the nicest hotel. Very old and noisy. Room size is fine. Breakfast is not hot, but a good snack to grab and go. We were told we ‘technically’ had a private bathroom down the hall, but the hotel could not control if that was actually the case (and it was not). Also, the hike you have to do between the overnight parking area and the hotel is a lot in the snowy months.

I was traveling through Truckee, driving from San Francisco to Salt Lake City last Sunday evening. It was about 10:00pm and the hotel door was locked but the lights were on, and there was a note on the door with a phone number. I called saying I was out front and might they have a room available? The voice on the phone said, "We don't take same day reservations, but I can give you the number to the Hampton Inn just outside of town." Hmmm. My wife, kids and i stay at very nice hotels frequently and I have never essentially been turned away like this. I thought hotels were there FOR travelers, and even for some who hadn't planned on being there so didn't make a reservation ahead of time. Either way, to point me to the Hampton Inn felt like an insult. I will have to really consider wether or not I, or my family, ever come to this hotel in the future.

Take a step back in time and enjoy this simple little hotel with modern conveniences. Great location to walk to so many restaurants and shopping and skiing just down the road. It's so much better than staying at an overpriced ski resort.

We stayed in the Truckee Hotel many years ago after taking the "snow train" from Colfax to Truckee and had a very nice experience. However, not so now. I wanted to make reservations, but I had a couple questions first. When you call the hotel, you don't get the hotel staff, you get an answering service back east somewhere. They have to relay the question to someone who has to do with the hotel, and then that person is supposed to call you back. Let me say that the representatives at the answering service were all very pleasant, but they can't answer any questions about the hotel itself, because they really don't know anything about it; they are just an answering service. Well, I called once a day during a three day period. Actually, one day I called twice. During this time, I never received a call back; a few days have now passed, and I still haven't received a call. No way was I going to make reservations at a hotel that doesn't value their customers enough to return phone calls and answer questions. My two questions were very basic. I ended up making reservations elsewhere. I guess we will never stay at the Truckee Hotel again. Very very poor customer service.

Right in the heat of downtown. Great dining below@ Moody's, shopping, lots of choices for dining. Walking distance from train station. Simplistic rooms that still show the history of the bldg. No TV's in room, but tv & dvd player in a common room. Snacks & bev's avail free. Each room has its own sink. Toilets/bath/shower are shared. We never had to wait for a water closet. Was a cozy place to stay & glad we chose it.

I came up mid week to ski a few days solo and had stayed at The Truckee Hotel several times before. It was a great stay. The hotel is an original hotel from the late 1800s and is pretty rustic. But the rooms are comfortable and VERY CLEAN. I travel much for business and stay at very fancy hotels -- if that is your experience then skip the hotel. If, however you are interested in an authentic experience and appreciate history and location, then you should go. Moody's Restaurant downstairs is perhaps the best restaurant in Truckee. Super location to walk everywhere and not have to worry about driving home. The hotel has a great lounge to hang out and the place is stocked with coffee and snacks. It reminded me very much of a 3 star hotel in the Alps - very clean, efficient and comfortable. Perfect place to stay!
