The Surf Inn at Gualala - Motel in Gualala - 39170 CA-1, USA

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Surf Inn in Gualala. The receptionist, Jade, is very kind and helpful. She gave us great recommendations for trails and parks in the area. The room was very clean and comfortable for us. The hotel is located in the center of Gualala so it’s easy to walk to nearby restaurants, stores, and even some trails (Gualala Bluff Trail). There is a great view of the ocean and a lagoon that is fed by the Gualala river. We saw a wide array of birds and seals in this area directly across from the hotel which was really cool! I am looking forward to returning here for future visits.

My recent stay at the Surf Inn Gualala left me with a generally positive impression. The highlight was undoubtedly the spectacular view from the property, which was truly breathtaking. The location was also a strong point, with convenient access to nearby restaurants and a grocery store, making it convenient for all your needs. It's worth noting that while the inn doesn't provide direct ocean access, there's a lovely lagoon nearby, followed by the ocean. To reach the shore, you'll need to take a short drive and follow a trail, which may require a bit of extra effort, but the end result is well worth it. In summary, my stay at the Surf Inn Gualala was a wonderful experience, thanks to the stunning views, clean and cozy room, friendly service during check-in, and the convenient location. If you're looking for a peaceful retreat with easy access to nature and amenities, this inn is definitely worth considering.

The Surf Inn is conveniently located and right on the ocean-side though you can’t easily walk to the water. The rooms are “quaint” with a large-ish bathroom, television, refrigerator and microwave. There isn’t much available floor space though there is room in the closet inside the bathroom for a suitcase or two. The bed was fine, despite some other less-flattering reviews, and the room was dated but okay. There is a nice are to sit and watch the ocean, use the fire pit or have a cookout with the permission of the management. The office staff were pleasant and helpful. Oh, the Surf Inn is adjacent to the grocery which is really great. On Saturday mornings there is a farmer’s market a few minutes walk away. We were satisfied with our experience and the price was as good as you can get in Gualala.

Wow! What a pleasant surprise this place was. We got their last room for the night. The woman in the office was beyond accommodating and very friendly & helpful. Room was extremely clean & well decorated. Blue & white nautical bedspread, very nice bathroom. Frig in room. They are right on the ocean and have an area that overlooks the ocean (you are elevated & fenced so kids won’t fall in). Watched the sunset from there. Nice firepit area and a back deck with furniture. Free laundry! We were also given detergent.

The area is beautiful but this is absolutely not worth the price. The rooms are extremely small it is actually hard to move around without hitting the walls. The shower didn't drain, the TV was half burnt out, the room reeked of skunk when we ran the water. Fridge and microwave are in the bathroom. I would come to Gualala itself again and again but I would stay somewhere else.

THE CUTEST MOTEL EVER. We loved it! Thank you for checking us in so late. It was great. We had amazing night with the sound of the ocean and just ultimate calming fresh air.

I really really really wanted to like this place, but it's just ok. I have to say the bed was like a medieval torture device. It goes up in the middle and down on the sides so you constantly feel like you're going to roll out. It's hard and feels like it has metal springs that are going to poke through the mattress. The refrigerator made a very loud humming noise all night, and the AC was dripping water. Now here's the kicker, the owner wrote up an information sheet for the room, and it says, "if the AC starts dripping, just turn it off" ok, then what? Just sweat all night? Or I don't know, maybe get it fixed so it doesn't drip???? To me, that's not an acceptable response to an obvious situation in need of repair. You don't tell your customers not to use a standard feature of the room just because you don't want to get it repaired. Other than that, the room was clean and quaint. Not at all updated since the early 90's. But if you want a clean room by the ocean, and you can sleep through loud noises, tortuous beds, and no AC, then this is the place to go!
