The Smithfield Inn - Bed & breakfast in Smithfield - 112 Main St, USA

We came for the formal Easter brunch and had a great meal. The seafood bisque was creamy and delicious. I think my dad could have had bowls! The prime rib was cooked perfectly and the crab cakes were huge and delicious! Our server was fantastic!

Cute Inn - very quiet. We stayed in the Sinclair room. The staff was great. If I were to critique anything it would be little things. Most of the outdoor furniture was broken or dirty. It would be great if there were 2 rocking chairs on the porch outside the garden house. It was cold the weekend we visited and when we checked in the heat was set to 78 degrees! We turned it down but knowing that the thermostat was for the whole house, we left it at 70 and just sweat to death all night because the heat never shut off. Having some fans available would be nice. We were happy to see there were mini fridges and plenty of coffee available in the room, as well as water in the fridge and champagne glasses. There was an ice bucket but nobody told us where we could go to get ice?? Just a few little things that could be tweaked to make the experience better but overall we were happy with it. Food was excellent but that’s a different review :)

Our first experience was a so-so lunch just after we moved to Smithfield. The most recent has ensured that we'll never be back. Friends were visiting, and we took them out for a stroll after dinner. We got the idea to stop in for a cocktail at the Inn, and followed a couple in the front door. We were met by a lady who appeared baffled to see us. We said we weren't there for dinner, and only want to have a drink at the bar. She relayed this to the man behind the bar, who said "They'd better hurry. How'd they get in here, anyway?" Standing in the middle of the room with my two guests, I haven't felt that embarrassed in a long, long time. We left without comment, never to return. New management? They appear to have a great deal to learn. A historic location like the Inn looks like it used to be something special. Now, they lock the doors at dark, operate like a bed-and-breakfast, and turn away the locals. We will not make another attempt. There are several other very good eateries in the area, none of which treat customers with contempt.

So quaint, so much character! We blocked rooms for a private family weekend event and enjoyed the delicious catering, historical details, and hospitality of the staff! Definitely recommend! The food was delicious, especially the prime rib. The outdoor patio area was perfect for sitting and enjoying a summer evening and location central to walk and enjoy the historic downtown attractions.

My wife and I try to stay at the Inn at least once a month. Everything at the Inn is superb, from the room to the food and especially the staff. We have brought friends with us on a couple of occasions and they are all impressed and some have stayed there more than once since the initial visit. Pleas know the manager Bill has been voted "Best Inn Keeper" by an independent panel of travel experts.

Outstanding meal for Mother's Day. Everyone in our party of five enjoyed their dish. The menu options were varied, local and most importantly -delicious! Homemade flavors stole the show. The atmosphere was tasteful, clean and calming. Service was equally good. I spent years in front and back of house restaurant work and was very pleased from start to finish. Will definitely return.

We dined in the restaurant and the food was superb. The kitchen had a hiccup where they were out of bread but grabbed some fresh from the bakery two doors down. Very historic building oozing with charm and character.

Ordered pork apples dinner for take out and must say very disappointed. The loin was very dry and chewy. No gravy. 4 small pieces of vegetables and apples were pitiful. Do yall have a new cook?
