I was enchanted by the skunk train and that was the main reason we did a trip to Mendocino.
We purchased tickets online for a Saturday trip. When we reached there, we were told there was heavy rain and tracks were flooded. Fair enough but why not send an email or some notification. There were 100s of people out there waiting to hear the same news.
We got rebooked for Sunday and we did board the skunk train. The boarding process is a bit long and painful. There is a VIP class for some folks, and the regular folks need to wait for a good 10-15 minute after standing in the line to get in.
The train is every bit charming but it gets COLD. I wish they invested some money into having some space heaters inside the cars and even the open car. You do hear the conductor remind about the snacks and drinks every 5 minutes which gets annoying.
Despite all the above, it's worth a ride. The lovely people of Mendocino wave at you when you go. The train stops at a place for 45 min where you can do a nice hike. You can buy some drinks and rest up as well.
Overall, a one time visit. I wish they'd make the journey more comfortable and use 21st century tools and gadgets to share updates.
Hubby and I did this for our anniversary. It was a great experience and I recommend trying it out at least once.
There’s a nice picnic spot where you got off at, do a short hike, have your snack/lunch at the tables (they allow you to bring your own food on the rail bikes) and then head back to station. Weather was very pleasant also. Scenery was the best part of this experience!
Pricey but worth trying it out once just for fun or to celebrate a special occasion.
What a beautiful day for a train ride! (Basically every day is one of those type of days).
We saw deer families, beautiful fall happening amongst the big trees in the Forrest.
Thank you for the flute playing in the Forrest stop and the guitar playing in the third car…. Obviously without these amazing employees who love trains, love sharing with others…. When someone has passion for what they do, there will never be a “work” day in their life…..
Thank you for the awesome adventure!
Absolutely Magical! We truly had a great experience. Live music from a very cheerful singer and guitar player. Snacks and drinks were available too. The views were amazing and the history was very useful and entertaining. There is one stop which allows you to get off and explore some ruins, then you head back to the station. The back open cart is awesome during the summer as the breeze keeps you cool. 10000% would recommend 🚂❤️
A great experience. My partner and I booked the rail bikes going through pudding creek. Breathtaking views of the redwood forest and you have guides educating you on the redwoods and answering any questions. There is also a 50 minute junction in Glen Blair where at night it opens up as a bar, which unfortunately I couldn’t book since they were so booked out for the month. May come here again just to see what it’s like go through the path at night and enjoy Glen Blair bar!
We had a really great time on the Skunk Train! The train museum is fun and full of history. I recommend packing a lunch for the train ride bc there is a half hour break in the middle of the magnificent redwoods. There is a beautiful pavilion with picnic tables and games, which we played an epic round of Jenga. Highly recommended!
We had a great time on the Christmas train! Boarding was a little chaotic as it was a full train and people were trying to go both directions on the cars and we kept getting stuck. I would recommend maybe modifying the boarding direction or process but otherwise once we found seats it was a fantastic time! There was popcorn, cookies, treats spaced out to keep the kids engaged, loved the open car for clear views of the forest and Mr skunk came around graciously signing books for all. Was really fun!!
The limited availability and high pricing keep this from being a five star review but other than that, the whole experience was excellent. The employees were very professional and the ride through the woods was just what we hoped for. The night came and we arrived at the bar, lit up and heated by camp fires and lamps. It looks spectacular. The fact that it is only really accessible via train is isolating and cozy. I highly recommend if you’re willing to spend a bit more for a really unique experience.

Beautiful relaxing little cove. Nice walk on a marked trail and down a small set of stairs. Please be respectful of the beauty and the neighbors stay on the marked area.
Such an amazingly beautiful place. I've been during the summer and the winter and I can only say that each time I am left stunned. The staff's dedication and love for nature is found throughout the gardens. If you're looking for a great way to spend
Definitely one of my favorite locations on Mother Earth. Beautiful views, loved our campsite (we've stayed twice in the same spot), the trails are excellent, and the beach is awesome. Gorgeous flora, fauna, and fungi.
My husband and I visit Fort Bragg a couple of times per year and this time we came across this wonderful establishment. We got there just in time for the grill to be fired up and we had the most incredible oysters for breakfast perfectly cooked and s
Just amazing & beautiful here. Walking distance from our hotel but drove over for an evening sunset. Not crowded so it felt like we had it all to ourselves. Soft sand, sea caves, beautiful rainbow above the bridge, played in the waves, & watched a go
We only took the short trail to the beach, but it was a very nice little beach. It's protected a bit by bluffs on each side and lots of sand to run and play on, as well as the creek coming down to the ocean. Pretty views of the bridge.
I'm excited t
