I had trouble finding this tree at first. Just walk along the pond/lake that has the paddle boat swans in it and you will hear/see it. Bring bug spray and blankets/chairs! It’s so soothing. I wanted to relax underneath it but didn’t prepare for a day in the park. So come prepared to truly enjoy comfortably! My favorite time in Nola.
Beautiful. Peaceful. Serene. Sitting under this oak as the music filled the air was a spiritual experience. So glad I got to be there with this amazing tree!
The melodious tree towers in the heart of City Park, just down the road from the New Orleans Museum of Art. During the summer, the oak provides a reprieve from the sultry Louisiana heat and enchanting tunes from the wind chimes strung from the branches. The chimes are all tuned to ring out in the pentatonic scale and are painted black to blend in with the plant’s natural shadows. The instruments range in size, with one of them reaching a length of 14 feet. The harmonious effect is that of a relaxing, tinkling symphony. Although the Singing Oak is in plain sight of visitors, not many people know about this hidden New Orleans gem. Take a few minutes to sit beneath the Chime Tree and walk away just a little bit more relaxed than when you arrived. Copied from Atlas Obscura.
If it's a little windy, you can listen to the music of the tree and relaxe. The sounds are really nice to listen to.
When the wind blows you can sit under these branches and hear a symphony playing above you. Its another of the more unknown spots in the city. What it is most of all is something different right at Big Lake and off the path to the museum of art. Worth a visit if you're out that way,
This hidden gem is an art installment meant to ensure that music would always be in the air here in New Orleans. This beautiful old oak was given enormous and beautifully-tuned wind chimes that continually make beautiful melodies and harmonies as breezes blow. This is a perfect spot to take some moments in the shade while listening and contemplating next to Big Lake.
Spoiler Alert: The Singing Oak sings because there is a bunch of wind chimes installed onto a big oak tree. Some of the wind chimes are incredibly large and produce such beautiful sounds. This is a great spot to relax and chill out while traversing through Zemurray Trail around the Big Lake.
A must see when you are in town. The park is beautiful and relaxing at sunset. The wildlife, especially the baby ducklings came right up to us. The singing oak will sing to you when the wind blows the chimes.
Of all the trees in City Park the McDonough Oak is likely the oldest and the most majestic. The huge branches have sagged to the ground under their own weight and over time. This tree stood in an ancient forest on this spot long before Europeans arri

This was one of my favorite museums during my visit. I learned so much. Didn't know about the free People of Color in Louisiana. Imagine if they had been allowed to thrive... how different America would be today.
