I've lived here for almost 3 years now and Daniel in the maintenance department is working hard during the owner transfer to address all our requests as fast as he can. Daniel always has a smile on his face and is pleasant to speak with, by far the nicest and hardest working person on staff. We are lucky he stayed on when this place changed ownership.
DO NOT MOVE HERE! We’ve been living there for 2 years now and there is absolutely nothing good I could say about the management of this place. We’ve had multiple break ins and home invasions in the past 3 months and nothing was done. Last night was the last straw. A SHOOTING occurred because a man was walking around breaking into peoples cars (inside the garage gates, who know how they even got inside) the police was called and he tried to escape in any way possible. He tried to run the cops over with his car, which lead to the shooting between the perpetrator and police. Many tenants have been putting up cameras due to the break ins, and some of them had already reported this man to management the night before after spotting him on their cameras trying to get into their cars. Management did nothing about the break ins and now have not address the shooting from the night before. Paying $2000 for a one bedroom for all of this to occur is absolutely unacceptable. All this not to mention we’re supposed to have 24/7 surveillance, which management had “forgotten to check if they were still doing that” direct response from management. There was also a tenant last summer who passed away in their apartment and many tenants reported bad odor, increase in bugs and no movement from that tenant and management lied to all of us saying they expected the apartment (obviously they did not since there was a body rotting in there) and continued to deny any neglect from their behalf. The management is EXTREMELY rude and incompetent. $2000 dollars to feel like I’m in south Dallas is a no.
A LOT of inconsiderate people walking their dog/dogs without leashes. Valet trash is suitable, but still, people leave trash everywhere because they're too lazy to walk to the trash dumpster. The mowing crew does not do an excellent job picking up trash. And a lot of people don't pick up after their dog. Bags are provided throughout the complex, with many lazy, inconsiderate people with entitlement issues. The maintenance staff is excellent, and the office people are great. But no enforcement on dog issues. Also, someone keeps spitting on the walls in building #1, leaving alcohol in the stairwells, spills, and food on the ground. Just because it's "luxury living" doesn't mean the people are any different. It can still be ghetto.
The absolute worst apartment I have ever lived in. I can’t make these things up. First, there were people repeatedly parking in my paid reserved spots. I left notes on the cars instead of towing them, because I was being nice. Then, the office literally sold my reserve spot (which was on my lease and had been paid for since the beginning) to one of the people who frequently parked in my spot. He left the note I attached as a pic. I marked out the bad words for everybody. Then, whoever moved in above me decided they want to make the loudest footsteps in the apartment complex. They run, at all hours of the night. I have called the courtesy officer multiple times and am only able to leave voicemails. The courtesy officer has never called back and my girlfriend will not stay in this apartment with me because of how loud my upstairs neighbor is. Recently, one of my neighbors was parked at the front entrance blocking it in a black suv with no lights on. It was dark out. I waited in my car for him to tirn on his car and drunkily drive back to the parking garage. Halfway back, he STOPPED HIS CAR, PUT IT IN REVERSE, AND INTENTIONALLY RAN INTO ME. I called the police and said they needed to respond because he was drunk. He starts running away and I follow him. He pees on someone else’s apartment, in the interior hallway. No wonder the hallways smell. I bring up these points with the office and say I don’t want to live here anymore. They say full lease termination fee. I dig further and they say I can transfer apartments. I will have to pay a $500 fee and my lease will restart. Literally the worst apartments I have ever lived in. Oh, and my package was stolen yesterday.
I am looking to move in the next few months and was looking at this place as my top option. I decided against it before I even got to see a unit. It started with the website. When I went to book a tour, the website do not actually allow you to set a day and time to tour, they just ask for your information. I thought maybe they'd call me or email me to set up a tour but days went by and I didn't hear from them. I called and no one picked up so I decided to stop in to see if they could fit me in for a tour. When me and my sister arrived, no one greeted us. So we sat in the main office hoping someone would give us the time of day. We were completely ignored for 15-20 minutes. No one even talked to us or asked if we had been helped. The office was hectic and there were a few times the employees were standing around talking to each other instead of helping us. Finally we left and my sister felt like she should say something and I wanted her to get a corporate email address. When she went back in to tell the manager how rude it was to ignore us, the manager told her that she had seen us sitting there but for whatever reason she chose to not help us. She then offered to give us a tour right then. I ended up having to go in and get the email address and the name of the manager (Bianca). That alone showed me what kind of disrespect I would likely put us with if I chose to lease here. Save your time and money.
Daniel from maintenance is a very hard worker and always makes sure that my request are taken care of in a timely manner. I’ve lived here for 4 years and he’s made the experience of living here 5 stars. Thank you!
Bianca and Kiana are EASILY the best people I’ve had the pleasure of working with when it comes to moving to a new apartment! Total dream team! They have gone above and beyond when with this process and been so incredibly helpful! I’m so happy to have such driven running women this complex. When things were outside of their jurisdiction, they made sure to get to all the proper parties to make sure everything was to the Silverlake standard. They have been so kind and patient during stressful periods with Graystar purchasing the property and honestly they each deserve a raise for holding down the fort with the hurtles we’ve had to jump.
Please do your due diligence before moving to Silverlake. Criminal activity is quite rampant recently and management has not handled the issue well at all. Lack of communication and courtesy from management, specifically the manager is creating a terrible and at times dangerous environment for residents. Just the other day I reported someone walking around trying to break into cars and sent them a video from my security camera, as well as asking if they could get in touch with the tenants on both sides of me, as they have cameras too. Management failed to respond to that email the day it was received, and that night the thief came back to attempt another car break-in which resulted in an active crime scene. Management never got a hold of my neighbours that day and failed to respond to me until the day after the crime. Please note management never advised residents after the crime happened what exactly occurred, but referred to it as ‘an incident’ and offered free food that night. Residents were able to confirm what happened through police reports/local news channels. It’s the lack of communication from Silverlake despite all these dangerous activities happening that really make the residents feel unsafe. If you are thinking of moving here, try to talk to one of the residents beforehand so we can at least provide you with a better understanding of what your experience will be like. Here are a few other issues: - Silverlake uses a key fob system to gain access to the building and each residence. In November, my key fob lock malfunctioned during non office hours. Not only did the emergency line not work (with zero communication from staff members that it was down), but I had to plead with the manager to pay the expenses and threaten legal action. The manager, Bianca charged me a ‘lock out fee’ of $75 despite no employee actually coming to assist during the lockout, but also refused to cover the $400 locksmith fee. After threatening legal action they finally agreed to pay half due to the fact that the lockout was because I, the resident forgot to change the batteries. I tried to explain that the batteries had been recently changed and it was a malfunction but the manager would not hear it (she literally laughed in my face as we had this interaction face to face), I ended up giving up at the end and agreeing to split the fees because I was finished with dealing with the manager. Mind you, this was my first time interacting with her and my impression of the manager was that she was incredibly rude and lacked any care for residents. I attempted to escalate the matter to Greystar but never was able to get a hold of them and the manager never provided me with a responsive contact. - break ins. If you tour the property you will find many residents with cameras on their doors. This is a new thing and only became an issue recently despite living here for two years prior. While management can’t control the break ins, what they can do is send notifications to its residents and place security cameras up in the parking garage. Also, we use to have a courtesy office that has since left. Not once has new management notified residents about any of this, except for one paper notification in the past talking about break ins in the parking garage. - Mail Room lockers down. We recently lost power (again, not the managements fault), however the Luxer locker system was down and management failed to ever notify residents regarding it. Not even a sign posted on the Luxer locker. They ended up after two days pulling all the parcels out of the lockers and leaving a pile of about 30-50 parcels on the ground in the open space. They never advised residents that their parcels had been pulled from the lockers, which would have been a nice notice as (1) we could now collect our parcels, (2) thievery has become an issue here. I do not recommend this place. While the residents are amazing and we do a good job notifying each other about management/building issues, the complete lack of notification by management just makes living here not worth it.
Such a wonderful experience. The staff is fantastic, and the message they promote is beautiful. This world needs more places like House of Shine. They truly give back in more ways than monetary value. They are building our future leaders and giving t
