The Shack Kitchen + Coffee - Barbecue restaurant in Spring Valley - 9050 Campo Rd, USA

The drinks that come out of the shack itself are and have been consistently good but the recent return to serving food was a huge disappointment. The barbecue wasn't great, pork ribs came out way too smoky, were mealy in spots and the sauce on them wasn't a good pick, bland and not sweet enough. Similarly, the carnitas was bone dry and over-smoked. The burger is only slightly better than fast food for 3x the price, patties were WAY too thick to be called a smashburger. Advertising 'fries' and serving waffle fries should be a crime, not only are they just not as good as straight-cut fries but the huge shape makes the 'loaded fries' order on the menu just impossible to eat with a fork. The sides were nothing special, the green chili mac was just OK and the beans were swimming in some mayo-based sauce, not good... Just make regular baked beans in a tomato/bbq sauce! Prices are just absurdly high for the quality of the food, if they want this place to succeed they need to go back to the drawing board in a big way, there's several restaurants that constitute The Shack's entire menu that are less than a 2 minute drive away and serve better tasting food for less money.

Excellent BBQ at an affordable price. Stopped by here to grab some groceries at the market and decided to grab a quick bite at their BBQ stand. Had the brisket sandwich which was packed with delicious smoked meat which was perfectly cooked atop a soft sandwich roll that was huge. BBQ sauce was also a perfect balance with just the sweetness. Definitely coming back to keep trying more of their stuff.

Best deal on BBQ pound for pound. Be sure to stop by early on the weekends for their smoked brisket! Their smoked half chicken has perfectly crisped skin but stays nice and juicy inside.

Ordering is quick and easy. The plate I ordered was ready in minutes!!! The portions are great. I order the tri-tip sandwich for my boyfriend who is a big guy and he filled up with it. The plate came with two sandwiches, two sides, chips and a drink. The food smelled so good in the car I wish I had ordered one for myself. I will definitely be ordering again. I highly recommend this BBQ shop.

Very kind and helpful staff. But the food here did not meet any of my expectations. I'm sure it is good "California barbeque" but if you are from the south and want good southern BBQ, do not waste your time. Our order came out so fast and tasted very old to me. Ribs were chewy and chicken was dry. Extremely overpriced. Also.. who tf puts eggs in potato salad? The shame.

If you Love smoked meat they have it. Plus this place is a hidden gem. Prices are fair and they always have fresh produce here. People and customer friendly and someone is always willing to help you out in finding what you need. They have a BBQ shack outside there store with daily smoked meats with a menu to die for. I love there food it's great.

Pulled pork sandwich was amazing. Plenty of meat, great bun, good sauce. I normally prefer brisket, and their brisket sandwich is good, but the pulled pork was just a little better. Sides are alright, really didn't have room for them after eating the sandwich...but they were good cold as leftovers. Atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired, park table on a busy corner, but the food is worth it.
