The Sands of Treasure Island - Featured Reviews (271)
Great spot right on the beach. This place is a vintage gem. The whole vibe is retro and the hotel has a sign saying it’s been running for 77 years. I’m sure the people complaining about this place in their reviews expected the Holiday Inn or something and this is not that. This place has been well loved and seen a lot of life pass though it’s rooms. It shows its age in different ways but has everything you need. Our room was clean, cool, and ready for us when we got there. The lady at the counter was very kind and helpful at check in. The parking isn’t awesome but it’s not too bad, just across the main road and down the street a bit. All that to say: If you’re looking for marble floors and a forever pool, keep driving. If you like a kitschy, down to earth place to stay, this is the one.
The Sands is a nice little spot next to the beach. We have rented here every summer for five years. This past April was our anniversary so I decided to take her somewhere on the beach while we get there after he booked our reservation online and nobody was there to greet us. The door was locked nobody inside, so we waited and waited and called and called about an hour and a half I was waiting out side of this hotel. We decided to call the place that we booked the reservation so we did another hour and 45 minutes being on the phone for them to finally find me a different hotel, which turned out great because it was the Hilton Beach resort and spa on Clearwater Beach so thanks Sands….Thanks for failure to communicate. and for not answering the door, there was not one employee on the premises.
I would advise against staying here. Pictures are quite deceiving. The grounds need work and do not appear to be maintained as well as other hotels nearby. We booked one of the few oceanfront suites and so many large blinds were missing or would fall down, the neighboring hotel can see right into your room. The floors made our feet black in a short period of time- I asked for them to be cleaned and was advised they would be but never were. The tub was painted over a million times and chipping paint would clog the shower. They also need to remove the sole black chair that served as only sit down living room furniture. So many bleach and yellow and white stains on it- god knows what fluids- absolutely disgusting and had to hide appearance with a sheet. The owner should be embarrassed of such furniture. Not only is it gross but you are expected to play frogger across the highway to where the additional parking is and no crosswalk two blocks away.
Positive: The beach was right there and the other guests were nice and respectful. Negative: The front lot was full the entire stay which meant that I had to walk across an entire block to my car and I am actually handicapped. The TV in the bedroom wouldn¿t work and I was told they¿d fix and never did. The rooms are disgustingly filthy. Negative: ""
Do not stay here. Pictures are very deceiving. It was totally disgusting. Our dog was boarded while we were away. His accommodations were much better than this. This place will be torn down in August for good reason.
Serial killer vibe…the place is gross! Dirty floors, linens were not clean,The bathtub is peeling and in serious need of an update…heck the whole place needs updating. The only chair in the room looks like it needs a bath in gasoline and set on fire! The staff was friendly but for $200 a night you would think the owner would put money back into this place!
The location is awesome. It is located right on the beach on the boardwalk. This motel is extremely outdated and run down. Rooms were sparsely furnished and the decor and furniture were very old and worn out. The floors in our room were absolutely filthy. There was no view of the ocean and no screens on the windows. Although we managed to tough out mainly because of the location I would never go back nor recommend this place to anyone. On the upside, all the management, maitenance workers, housekeeping staff etc. we’re very very nice people. Parking was limited to about 10 spots so, you had to park across the street about a block away. This could be an okay spot if the owners would sink a little money and TLC into this place. Never would we recommend this place.
Rooms were decent maid staff is awesome! Great location..pool could use some work but we have been going for multiple years now!
