I had tea in the garden. The property is beautiful. The chuch bells rang, the flowers were blooming, and the service was good. It was a wonderful afternoon visit. The food was tasty. Compared to other teas I have had the menu was unique. The roasted chicken was good. I wish the scones were hot. The server did a wonderful job managing all of the tables alone.
I am beyond delighted with the delicious and beautiful vegan food at a Christmas tea at Royal Eagle which is on the grounds of St. Sabbas Orthodox Monastary. The napkins, which I loved, were folded by the monks. There is a requirement for modest dress as it is a monastary.
I really wanted to give a stellar review. Let me start off by saying the service and the atmosphere was outstanding. The food was a different story. We went to celebrate my 50th birthday. We don't mind paying high prices for great food. Unfortunately this was not the case. We went for the smoke house meats. It was way too salty. My husband sausage board was almost not edible chewy, salty and hard. His cut of prime rib was dried out. The apple strudel was burned on the bottom and the apple filling must have evaporated. The tea was great and the napoleon was the highlight of the meal. We spent a lot of money here. I'm glad it went to support the monastery. If you are going to commend high prices quality of the food should follow.
Went to High Tea. Fantastic. I will go back. The food was excellent, soup, finger sandwiches a main course, and pastries. We had a wonderful time. 2nd time, Dinner, Absolutely 💯 fantastic. Perogies and Schnitzel!!
We were excited to dine here and were celebrating my birthday. It is quite expensive, but they advertise fine dining and we decided to splurge. We looked at the reviews and there were many good reviews. We should have paid attention to the poor reviews, they are far more honest and accurate than the positive reviews. I am guessing people struggled with saying anything negative about a nonprofit restaurant/experience. The ambience is quite nice, although they refused to turn on the fireplace on a December evening, because they said it would get too warm. The waitress was very friendly. However, she was the only staff member we saw. She greeted people at the door, served the tables, bussed, the tables and so on. As you can imagine, service was slow. We were there for three hours, I ordered the rosemary leg of lamb and my husband ordered the château Brion. We love good food and love to eat, and anyone that knows me, knows that I never leave my food unfinished. We each were only able to eat about three bites of our entrée, because they were absolutely inedible. I couldn’t even eat more than a couple of bites of the chocolate gingerbread dessert. My lamb looked like something that was pressed from a mold and my husband’s château Breon tasted like vinegar. This was the most disappointing experience we have ever had in a restaurant. I would never recommend this establishment to anyone, and I will never return. We will chalk this experience up to a healthy donation.
Our return visit after many years for afternoon tea showed a high level of service, food quality and truly unique atmosphere. Beautiful dining and patio areas. Efficient and knowledgeable server. Russian tea glass holders, podstakanniki, are used and are unique and detailed. There are many historical items around the dining room including a wax cylinder phonograph, many antique samovars and a gem of an unfinished portrait of I think Czar Nicholas II in the side room off the main dining room. A walk of the gardens and visit to the chapel are a must. Many have said it, but this is truly such a jewel in the unassuming neighborhood.
First class, welcoming atmosphere with an amazing menu. Beautiful presentation, fresh and flavorful ingredients, and wonderful chef and staff. You are transported to another era of fine dining. Can't wait to go back.
Delicious and unique dining experience ! The teas and food were scrumptious and our server was helpful and pleasant. The floral gardens were both beautiful and serene. Thank you to the young monk who graciously showed us the monastery and answered our questions! I recommend making the trip for a wonderful luncheon experience!
