The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe - Featured Reviews (1566)
Epic stay. The Ritz concierge Udit thought of everything before we even arrived to the property. We traveled for the first time with our 6 month old to celebrate our third anniversary. Our suite came equipped with a crib, baby lotion/bath products. A baby bathtub, a kettle, humidifier, baby wipe warmer, extra pillows and blankets. We walked into what felt like our second home. All of the Ritz staff made traveling with a baby extremely easy so we truly felt like this was a vacation. This Ritz property goes above and beyond and gives you a true 5-Star experience. We have stayed in over a dozen Ritz properties in our travels and the Ritz Lake Tahoe ranks amongst the highest.
Thank you to entire Ritz staff for making our 50th Wedding Anniversary stay one to remember. Champagne at check in then upgraded to one bedroom suite with mountain views. We enjoyed the property so much wee only left once in three days for dinner in Truckee on the recommendation of the Ritz staff. We enjoyed breakfast at Cafe Blue with Gus in the mornings. The pool staff was also very nice with drinks and snacks. Manzanita dining for anniversary was special with Kristen taking care of us. A special thanks to Frank and Barbara for the afternoon at The Lake Club. This is a very special place and I recommend if possible include this in your plans. Thank you again for a wonderful experience never to be forgotten...Tom and Leecia
Warning: Avoid This Place at All Costs!
My husband and I booked a stay here for our anniversary, and it turned out to be a complete scam. If I could rate them lower than one star, I would. We made a reservation at the lake club for a day, initially quoted at $610. We paid the $610 upfront, but at the end of our stay, we were informed that the actual price was $1200. They then forced us to pay the $1200 and forgot to refund us the $610 right away. We had to contact them multiple times to get the $610 back. We had a charge of $1810 on our statement.
Despite confirming our $610 rate with the hotel manager and seeing the same price on their website, they welcomed us into the lake club, already having our names and details prepared. They assured us we could enjoy everything and then leave, making us feel free to do as we pleased since we had already paid. Yet, no one from the hotel nor the lake club notified us of the price change beforehand. They waited until the end of our stay to demand the higher amount.
It’s shocking that the hotel managers themselves are unaware of their pricing. This experience was incredibly embarrassing, disappointing, and we will never return. This place is full of scammers!
First I would say the hotel staff were excellent and very accommodating. |They moved us from our first room to a much quieter part of the hotel without any issue.|The rooms were clean and the bed very comfortable.|The thing that really upset us was the mandatory valet parking, it seemed to be run by another company and ended up costing us an extra $80-100 a day between charges and tips. |I heard one valet asking another how much tip he got off me ; "$10 ...not a lot, but I suppose it is something".....This made me feel terrible , and that was the second evening of out 4 day stay.||I was delighted when we left, Im sure it is very nice in winter, but would not go back in summer.||I
The Northstar gondola wasn't running, so we parked, hiked, and then had lunch at the Ritz-Carlton Lake Tahoe today. It was a fantastic overall experience. The hotel appears that it was just recently renovated. The property was beautiful as we walked through it, and so were the grounds leading to the hiking trails. If you have lunch here after your hike, the valet parking is only $25 dollars versus $50. A highly recommended experience!
Location and general hotel property is amazing, however the service was so bad, worse than what you'd get at a basic hotel.
Arrival: Valet unfolded the notes we gave to check how much we had given as a tip in front of our face. Uncomfortable and rude.
- Asked front desk for some beach towels, 20 minutes later (no exaggeration) an employee turned up with a full set of regular bathroom towels including wash cloths. Someone else instantly pulled out beach towels from a nearby closet when I pointed out these weren't suitable for the beach. Just no common sense.
- Manzanita restaurant: Booked a table for 7pm outside as we had our dog with us. When we turned up, we were shown to a coffee table and sofa and given menus. I assumed this was where we were waiting until our table was ready, but nope, this was literally our "table". Am I seriously expected to "fine dine" and eat steak bent over my own knees on a coffee table? I'm also 7 months pregnant. It wasn't even laid out. I couldn't believe they found this acceptable and that no-one mentioned when we booked that they intended on placing us on a lounge sofa. We had to go to the poolside restaurant instead, where although they didn't have a table left, they magically wheeled one out from inside and set us up with a proper table where we ended up having chicken tenders and fries for dinner. Such bad service, seriously this is supposed to be a Ritz.
The location is ideal for skiers in winter, offering true ski-in, ski-out convenience. However, in the summer, it's a 20-minute drive to the lake and requires a gondola ride to reach the village, which is quite dormant during the off-season. Expect to drive 30+ minutes each morning to find activities.
Rooms are well-appointed, but the flow-limiting sprinkler head on the sink faucet was a minor annoyance (see video).
Service was disappointing. Despite the hotel being only 60% occupied, service was subpar. The concierge had limited hours, and when unavailable, the receptionist/operator was not well-informed about the local area, hotel amenities, or activities.
The upcharge amenities are extremely overpriced. The upgraded lounge costs $250 per person per day, with a limited menu and amenities—not worth it. The beach club is an exorbitant $700 per person per day - insane. Access to the adults-only pool requires spa payment.
Calling this a resort, especially in summer, is a stretch. It feels more like a hotel with one restaurant, one pool (the second pool is limited to spa guests), and limited on-property activities without a car.
For summer visits, we'll be staying at the Hyatt in Incline Village in the future.
This is our 5th stay at this hotel. We'd booked a 3-night stay that unfortunately fell on a weekend when the main highway to Tahoe from SF was closed due to a snow storm. We contacted Marriott and there was nothing they could do to help us but upon contacting the hotel directly, they were extremely understanding and were kind enough to move our reservation out by a day or two so that we could reach the hotel safely and have a wonderful stay skiing on soft powder snow!||Our room was lovely and had a mountain view. They've refurbished the rooms since our last visit a few years ago. Our dinner at manzanita was a birthday celebration and every detail was perfection. Every single member of the staff from the check-in, concierge, restaurant, bell desk, and reception were all wonderful. During our last night our son became ill with a cough and could not sleep. When I called the front desk at midnight to inquire if there was any medicine available for purchase on the property, they sent someone up to our room with cough medicine which helped my son sleep and truly saved the day. Amazing service and every detail perfect. Impeccable, warm and kind service from everyone on the Ritz Carlton team - we'll definitely be back!
