The Red Hen - Family restaurant in Swedesboro - 1303 Kings Hwy, USA

In the middle of Swedesboro, it’s an older building but it’s a nice quiet place to dine. I’ve been on 3 separate occasions and each time I have enjoyed the food and or drinks. Try them out if you have a chance.

Really good upscale comfort style food with a flair. The short rib pizza is so good that we drive from NE Philly for it. That pizza is in my top 5 pizzas in the country, and I've been to all 50 states. Baja shrimp tacos are a light and refreshing take on a classic. Soups and other menu items are equally done well. Nice selection of beer, if you drink. Elizabeth (chef/owner) is an absolute pleasure to talk with about food and travels. Restaurant decor is funky and eclectic. Also , there is a free parking lot.

It’s become my favorite place to enjoy to eat! 2 restaurants in one! I enjoy the atmosphere in the bar @ the Red Hen, but order from the BLK SHP menu. Once again, an excellent meal! Water - scallop ceviche (light, flavorful & beyond my expectations) Earth - BLK SHP chips, I love egg plant! Land - Lamb chops, very good! Bread - gooseberry Brie flatbread (What a wonderful combination, delicious!)

Good food and friendly service. My only issues were that they charge extra for credit card payments (most places just have the extra costs baked in), and they automatically added gratuity with a party of 6 without any notification other than on the check. I don't mind the automatic gratuity as long as there is a sign somewhere that lets you know. I did not notice a sign anywhere. Fortunately, someone in our party saw it on the check. We still like to give a little extra above the standard gratuity anyway.

Still fabulous. The sweet potato fries is like dessert. Cocktails are excellent.

I just want to start by saying we had a great time! Our food came out quick, we were able to pick the seats we wanted. The staff was pleasant, parking wasn't an issue, and dinner was definitely affordable. We also got to have a nice long conversation with Elizabeth who is in charge of the culinary operations at Red Hen and is also from South Africa(she's a huge animal lover something my fiance and her have in common). My fiance had the pork wings garlic flavored and she loved them we both had French onion soup It was really good and steaming hot and I had the wings appetizer in the Chipotle barbecue which were good because they weren't too hot and they weren't too sweet. For dinner we had the short rib pizza and it was a treat. Had the bread pudding for dessert and that was awesome as well! Support your local business - If you don't don't complain when McDonald's is the only thing around.

Would I go back yes. Had a small Caesar salad with chicken and it was far from small with a French onion soup; very tasty. Pretzel bites nice and fluffy, great tacos. You must top it off with 8 dollar six pack package good to go. You can’t beat that with a bat!

We stopped in for a late lunch on a Wednesday. We were lucky and it wasn't crowded. The food was fantastic. The burgers we ordered were cooked perfectly and had a fresh home-made flavor. The cocktails were made with rich and intriguing flavors. The service was top notch. The staff was friendly and attentive. On top of that the atmosphere was attractive and captivating. I would highly recommend this place for a delicious casual meal.
