I see a lot of comments over wet conditions and drainage, but I can't speak for that. It was very dry conditions. Front desk said it was tight but I didn't find it to be tight. A bit challenging with forced hazards and quite hilly. Greens are lightening fast. It is like putting on hardwood floors. I enjoyed my outing and for 18 with a cart and balls for 42 bucks. No Brainer. I will go again but wish carts were in better condition. Not a deal breaker to me. People are just picky out here.
I have known and played The Preserve at Jordan Lake G.C. since its conception as I lived in Apex until 8 years ago when we moved to FL. My buddy from S.C. is in town so we visited the Preserve yesterday, 23 December. James at the Pro desk was terrific, the starter not so much. With a 12:15 tee time we followed a four ball, who took 8 tee shots off Number 1. Two ball following a four ball; no problem, right? Now my buddy is a ten and I'm a 14 handicapper. The four ahead of us were three beginners and a (I, presume) member. Let me just say a FIVE + HOUR round at this time of year is hardly acceptable. However, the score card does say maximum round is 4.5 hours (still too long). Now The Preserve is a tough course for someone who has not played it 4 or 5 times. Ya gotta know where NOT to hit the ball. In addition you need to play the correct tee set, There are 7 from which to choose.... choose wisely!!! I must say the course it self was in fairly good condition for this time of year. Each cart has two sand bottles but no one uses them from the number of fairway divots I saw, even on tee boxes where there are sand boxes available no one uses them. The greens were in fine shape and very quick, probably 12 or so on the stemp meter. Again, no one is repairing ball marks but the greens were a bit hard due to weather in the 30 degree range overnight. Look, this is a very challenging Davis Love III course. Go play, just don't be in any hurry. (it will take all day)
When it opened and for many years after it was one of the best public courses around. Not as good as it was now but still worth playing. Tight and has some odd force carry holes, challenging for sure. The average player will struggle but better than average players will feast. Great clubhouse.
I've played here a few times and probably won't anymore after today. The golf carts are 20 years old with bald tires and parking brakes that may or may not work. The cart path is built like a sidewalk where every block is uneven from the next one so get ready for constant bumps and a sore back. The "sand" traps are red dirt or clay with rocks so your best bet is to pick up your ball and play from the grass. I'm giving it 2 stars only because the fairways are nice. Finally, the snack bar hot dogs were burnt and the buns were hard. This course has so much potential given the location and houses built in the neighborhood, but the Preserve doesn't care about the golf course, this much is obvious.
This is a very nice track but difficult. It meanders through some beautiful natural space. It has several cambers and forced carries. It’s hard finding an even stance out there unless you’re on the tee box. Not easy but beautiful.
Played the Preserve today and had a great experience. The course is in wonderful condition tee to green. The staff was very friendly and accommodating especially Corey the Head Golf Professional. If you have not played this golf course it’s a real treat. It’s a Davis Love III design with a ton of character. Tee shots need to be strategically placed with very picturesque elevation changes from tee to green. Greens are very tricky with lots of undulations missing in the wrong spot will cost you strokes. Some much fun looking forward to playing again soon!
Course was in decent condition. Played on a Friday and the bar/restaurant didn't open until after 1030am and there was no beverage cart. Disappointing overall.
Absolutely the worst pace of play you could imagine. Tee off at 11:39 and finish at 4:30. No ranger on the course on a Saturday. For $77 save your money and hit a municipal course for the same quality.
