The Poynt Newburyport - American restaurant in Newburyport - 31 Water St, USA

Recently enjoyed an early dinner at The Poynt after past bad experiences. The service is exceptional, but the food wasn't great on our first visit. This visit changed my mind. We ordered a combination of appetizers and entrees. Not one plate was left clean. The chicken and cheese taquitos are well worth the money and are one of my favorites. My entree, the lamb bolognese was delicious and filling. I loved the addition of fresh carrots - a unique spin to the dish. Honestly, it was an awesome meal and a complete 360 from my last visit. Will be back soon!

Great bar atmosphere with excellent food. We got two small plates. The tuna stack and beef dumplings and they were delicious.

They have a beautiful dining room and also a bar with high chairs if you prefer that. The menu is pretty varied and is a mix of small shareable plates and pizzas and entrees. They also have a number of options for salads as well. Although we didn't order a drink this time,th e cocktail menu is also very interesting. The burger and fries were pretty substantial and really delicious.

We ordered two starters, the Calamari and the meatballs. I'll say the Calamari was the best I've had in a long time. The meatballs, I didn't enjoy them, but the two others in my party did. I would definitely recommend the Calamari. Next my son order the burger which looked like your normal burger, but came across greasy. My parter, he had the pork tacos which the sauce it came with was great and he said the tacos tasted good. I got the Steak Frites, the hanger steak. I may have expected to much, this steak was to bland, just lacking flavor, definitely room for much improvement. For 32 I wouldn't buy that again. I prefer your steak from a texas road house. Now our server was great and this spot looks cute and I think a later dinner would look beautiful during the evening. We'll be back to give it another shot sometime soon.

Place is great! Highly recommend. Busy Sunday brunch. Service from Lovell was very good and couldn't help noticing the floor manager pitching in and helping his very busy waitstaff. Food was delicious. The egg yolks in the hollandaise began to scramble, resulting in a clumpy sauce, but that's just nit picking.

Okay absolutely no view of the river from this restaurant. Raven was our server and she was fantastic and the best part of this experience. As for the food, too pricey and not that good, was expecting alot from other reviews especially for the beef dumpling appetizer, slightly greasy and over cooked. The beverages where clever, and so are other restaurants. Dessert was delicious, go for the donuts. Parking was a breeze.

I would've given 5 stars if it wasn't for the worst hostess my wife and I ever experienced. Everyone else was super friendly and attentive. The hostess however is literally ruining this restaurant's reputation and should be reprimanded. We walked in Saturday night around 8pm to a woman standing at the hostess table furiously typing away at her phone. She did not acknowledge us until we stood in front of her for a solid 60 seconds. She then did not greet with a smile. We told her table for two and she said she'd have to check and ran off. The restaurant was not slammed- there was no waiting group of patrons. She didn't return for about 3 minutes (maybe still on her phone somewhere). She came back, grabbed the menus and said follow me. She then basically RAN to the back room. We literally couldn't keep up and would've lost her if it weren't for the fact the restaurant isn't super massive. She tossed the menus on the table and literally walked away from the table before we got to the table. She pointed to the table as she walked away and told us that was our table and was gone- rushing back to presumably go back to using her phone. We are astonished at her behavior because our daughter is a hostess at another restaurant and she would get written up for this rude behavior.

This is a really nice place for brunch or just drinks! I would have liked to see more breakfast brunch options, but the short-rib Benedict was great. I didn’t try the tacos but they looked amazing. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meals and the cocktails were served pretty and tasty. The service was attentive and kind.
