We stayed in 24 different properties during August 2023 on a driving trip from Minnesota to Alaska. Our primary criteria for evaluating a lodging property include cleanliness, sleep quality, price given the season, ease of luggage transfer and use, and wireless speed and security. Other plusses would include location and view, breakfasts, and availability of restaurants close by. We don’t watch TV so can’t tell you about the quality of service.|Ocean Manor was one of the 6 best places in which we stayed. It’s very well equipped, clean, quiet, and comfortable. All the units have a view of the west facing bay in Homer. It’s probably about two or three miles from the Spit. The close-by River Café is an excellent breakfast venue. All units are at ground level so luggage handling is easy.|

The views rate 5 stars at this family-owned hotel. Rooms themselves are modest but clean and comfortable, with private decks. Small microwave and fridge. Front office easy to deal with. Within walking distance to several restaurants. Private beach below the hotel. They do a lot of tour business, so it's likely that a lot of people will be moving in and out each day. But rooms were fairly quiet at night.

What a delightful hotel! Quiet, clean, and great, I mean GREAT! view of the water. There was a nice picture window with a small table/chairs next to it that made eating breakfast or lunch a joy. You can also see the St. Augustine volcano from there. I would definitely stay here again!

Our room was very nice. Extremely clean, comfy bed and pillows, and the view was gorgeous!! Such a gem! Staff was so very helpful and had excellent recommendations for food and sightseeing. ||We recommend this place to everyone we know who is planning a trip to Alaska. Would definitely stay here again.

The rooms were very comfortable, maybe not the most modern, but very adequate. The location was very beautiful, very scenic, and if you like to walk the shoreline, it is right there in front of you. The owner is quite a historian and involved with the community. We learned alot from him with the history, what to do, and what the Homer community has planned in the future.

The room was basic, affordable, clean and quiet with a beautiful view and a private path to the beach - where there are many tide pools to explore. |Location is great. There are several really good restaurants close by - starting with the Kannery about 50 yards away. Fat Olives, AJs Steakhouse, Wild Honey Bistro (crepes), and Two Sisters Bakery are an easy walk - all within half a mile of the hotel. |Also, a visit to SeaGlo Spa or Salt & Pine (metaphysical supplies, minerals) are fun ways to spend some time and are near the aforementioned restaurants. The Bunnell Street Arts Center, which carries quality work by Alaskan artists is next to Wild Honey Bistro.

The is a clean, quiet, well maintained property! Our room looked out to the ocean with a walking path down to the shore. The rooms have a balcony that is lovely to sit on.The beds were so comfortable and there is a microwave and mini refrigerator. There are restaurants within walking distance.

We enjoyed our stay at The Ocean Shores. The best part of the stay was the trail in front of the hotel that leads down to the beach. When the tide goes out, this is a great place to go tide pooling. We were on the beach to tide pool twice while we were there and there wasn’t much to see in the evening as the tide didn’t go out as far, but in the morning the following day, it was way out and we were able to find some sea stars and anemones. It was fun to see the kelp and huge rocks that are uncovered also. If you have water proof boots, they would be good to have for this, although we used our hiking shoes and were able to stay dry but it is a little precarious with lots of water around the slippery rocks. (Tide pooling is always fun, but these tide pools had a lot less life than what we’ve seen in the past in tide pools along the Oregon and Washington coasts). ||||The hotel was clean and comfortable. The views of the ocean from the windows were great, but there are two rows of rooms - one directly facing the water (although there is a hill to walk down to get to the water), and one higher up on the land. Both have good views but being in the lower units would have been nicer - we booked online and didn’t know that they weren’t all on the water so maybe request one of the lower units. The water pressure in the shower was quite low - some kind of low flow shower head that was like showering in a mist, but apparently they are required to use low flow plumbing for water conservation so that’s not all bad. The owner checked us in and was quite friendly, and Homer was a great place to stay for a few days. When we were there (in the first week of July 2023), restaurants were not always open, or closed quite early so plan your meals in advance, and we’d highly recommend one of the bear viewing tours with Sasquatch Alaska Adventure Company.
