I travel ALOT for work, and rarely have time to leave reviews for each place, but this one is a MUST. Beautiful, super clean and well-appointed rooms, idyllic setting, staff (Sue) was wonderful, and the breakfast was delicious - I highly recommend the owner's egg bake recipe. I was even greeted by the local deer population at the front entrance upon arrival. It was a welcome change from generic hotel rooms. My room had a working fireplace and hot tub, which was a much appreciated in Iowa winter after a 6 hour drive. I can't wait to be back in this area for another stay. May need to bring the hubby for a nice romantic weekend getaway this summer, and explore the beautiful grounds!
Went on a women's retreat here and it was fantastic. The rooms were perfect with jacuzzis which I loved. The service was wonderful. And the breakfast was awesome too. We are planning on coming again next year. Can't wait. We also walked the trails too. Had to be a little careful cause this time if winter you can expect a little ice and snow but for the most part it was just wet. I took several pictures on the walk. Saw a few deer and a buffalo statue that looks real from afar. Pretty Neat-O! Thanks for everything Oakwood Inn.
Bill & Bridget are wonderful hosts! The Oakwood Inn is beautiful, and the accommodations were comfortable and very well-kept. Their breakfast is delicious, too! We appreciate them making adjustments to their regular menu based on our dietary constraints. ||We had no issues whatsoever during our stay, other than a small mishap where someone (we assume an employee) opened the door to our room, not realizing we were still there. Check-out was scheduled for 11, and this was around 9:30am. They quickly apologized and closed the door again. We were finishing breakfast, so it wasn't a big deal... but we were glad we weren't just fresh out of the shower! Haha!
Oakwood Inn's beautiful setting and welcoming atmosphere are just the beginning of a fabulous B&B experience! We loved the very comfortable, spacious room we had and really enjoyed the access to the deck, where we could sit and appreciate the vivid late autumn sunsets and sunrises, and bird watch! An additional plus is immediate access to the nature trail right outside the front door with your choice of length of walk.|Bridget and Bill provide many thoughtful amenities, such as a coffee station that offers coffee, teas, hot chocolate, plus fresh homemade chocolate chip cookies. Their breakfast is outstanding! Endless hot coffee refills, fresh fruit, a delicious baked treat every morning and a substantial main course protein that sustains you for hours! We enjoyed our stay immensely and would highly recommend Oakwood Inn for a lovely stay in the Iowa Great Lakes region.
We absolutely love this place. The rooms are beautiful and well cared for, the hosts are friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is absolutely delicious. It’s a great mix of classic rustic B&B style but with modern conveniences and amenities. My wife and I have stayed here twice in the offseason just to get away and we’ll definitely come back again.
The property was beautiful inside and out. The room was spacious and comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and filling. Just a couple minor suggestions were to have temperature control in the room it was too warm for us for sleeping. Also the owners had a fish dinner and when we came back to the property that night we were greeted with a very strong fish odor throughout the B &B. With that said we would come back and recommend to others. Thanks
My wife and I stayed at this bed and breakfast for our wedding night 12 years ago under different ownership. It was a beautiful experience then and it was a beautiful experience under the new owners as well. Breakfast was fantastic (they were even able to accommodate a gluten free diet), the building was quiet (no kids allowed unless the entire building is rented out), and everything was clean and comfortable! Both times we’ve stayed it’s only been for one night, so we didn’t really get the opportunity to enjoy ALL of the amenities available to guests, but it would be a very comfortable place to stay for several days. My four stars for the location are only because of its proximity to the highway. Sitting on our shared balcony, there was quite a bit of traffic noise mixed with the beautiful sounds of nature in the gardens. All in all, we very happily plan to be back!
The words to describe this place include elegant, lovely, delightful, decadent. The location is three stars because there’s really no great reason to come to this area other than the Oakwood Inn. But the grounds on which it sits are beautiful and well thought out. If you are passing through or even remotely in the area, stay here! The decor is elegant from the rose china served with breakfast and the luxurious bed to the lush garden grounds. The owners are absolutely delightful and accommodating as well. Would definitely stay again and will recommend to all.

Nice, friendly, laid-back resort with cute little cabins and permanent residents throughout. The kids had a blast swimming at the beach, which was right across from our cabins.
Made my very first visit here today, although I've been coming to the Lakes region for years. Mini-Wakan State Park has to be one of the smallest state parks in Iowa, but it really is a nice get-away from all the hustle and bustle of the rest of the
