For almost $1500 a night with tax, I expect to be able to sleep past 7 A.M. on a Sunday morning. The banging and noises coming from upstairs were crazy and it sounded like someone was running on a treadmill. We were in room 1622 and we complained about the noise to the front desk and they said they have gotten noise complaints before from that room. I thought it was the gym but they said that was on the 3rd floor so it must be the restaurant. If they know there is a noise problem, you should let your guest know and offer a discount if the still want to stay in the room. We were not even offered any kind of discount for our inconvenience. Furthermore, the honor bar in the room had no pricing anywhere to be found. We took a Coke and a half bottle of champagne and were charged $185 for a half sized bottle. Had I known that tiny bottle was $185. We would never have opened it. I thought $60 at best. This is my third time staying since they re-opened and it’s not worth the money. I’ll be saying elsewhere moving forward.
Obsessed with this hotel! It's my new favorite place to stay. The rooms are extraordinarily comfortable and well appointed. The whole hotel is quiet and serene and just exudes a sense of calm. Staff are all very helpful and friendly. Cannot say enough good things about The Newbury + can't wait to go back!
Preferred choice in Boston!!!! Great Service and a beautiful hotel. We had an issue upon check-in but their staff made all the difference in correcting the problem and then going above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Alexander was so courteous and amazing with his customer service!
I stayed at the Newbury for four nights recently and felt compelled to leave a brief review. This hotel is beautiful, spotlessly clean, and perfectly located. However, it is the service that stands apart. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. I cannot comprehend why anyone would give this hotel less than five stars. I will stay here again whenever I return to Boston.
I came here to say for business and everything is excellent. The hotel, staff, the view…etc. There were couple of things that lowered the service level from my perspective. 1. The room service team often forgot putting drinking water. 2. When we ordered room dine-in, the stake wasn’t cooked to our preference. 3. The reception staff although they’re all nice & friendly, but they were going to double charge us for room dining services after we have cleared our bill. I also wish if the hotel would add the Contessa (another restaurant within the hotel building) to the room dining services/menu. Otherwise, everything was excellent. Great experience.
Fantastic location. Very nice, high service hotel. Nice sized rooms, with lots of comfort and elegance. This might have spoiled me for future Boston trips.
We stayed here for 3 nights. The suite was ok, the pictures are better for 1k a night. The city bar was great and the people there were nice. One thing that was disappointing was the library. It's advertised as exclusively for guests but it's completely false. They use the room as an overflow from the city bar. It's very loud and crowded. Don't advertise as something it's not. It was the reason I picked this hotel. I was looking forward to sitting in a quiet room sipping a cocktail. There were never seats and they were actually waitlisting for the room! They’ll need to update their website about the Library room. Would not stay here again.
What has happened to this hotel?! Absolutely not 5 Star, and the reasons are varied: 1. The bell staff broke the handle of our Rimowa trunk on arrival. When the Reservation staff were told at check-in, the staff were totally nonchalant about it. After asking the staff to have it repaired at the Rimowa store literally across the road, it was still sitting in the luggage closet at 4pm. I walked it across the road to be repaired myself, it was processed in 5 minutes and I was told it’ll be ready the next morning (Thank you Rimowa). 2. Our room windows open directly onto an air conditioning unit that constantly hums. 3. The drinks in the Mini Bar are expired. 4. The staff behave like they are owners, completely aloof and pretentious. 5. Room numbering on our floor has fallen down. 6. The outside staff / valets hang around the front doors in a group like it’s a social event, yet not one opened the door for my wife who was ahead and carrying bags. I could absolutely go on. What The Newbury started as, it’s a shell of it now. If we could be refunded, we’d be at the Four Seasons or Mandarin in a heartbeat. Hotel Response…. This is point 7. What a ridiculous response that says or means nothing to the customer you have provide poor service to. Your response is frankly - you’ll sort it out for the next customer? What a fantastic response for potential customers to read in the review - if we screw their experience, you’ll catch it on the next one. You couldn’t even be bothered to even knock on a door and introduce yourself. Time to look for a new profession, as HOSPITALITY isn’t your strong suit. NOTE: There are far better hotels with stronger Google ratings in the neighborhood.
Lovely hotel right in the center of downtown Boston! I stayed in a suite on the second floor, there was only one other room near me. Hotel room was a great size, bedroom itself was huge! Staff was extremely friendly! They have an observation deck on
