There is no designated parking for this hotel, but it wasn't difficult to find a spot on the street.  The hotel maintains the antique character that the waterfront area is known for.  Therefore, it is not handicap accessible at all.  It has lots of stairs and a slight lean towards the drop-off on the uppermost flight due to age. The room was sparsely decorated on a low cost budget, which created a "tired" look. The only microwave available for guest use in the hotel was in a communal ice machine room on the second floor and there are no refrigerators for guests (we were told to store any leftovers in our car). Our room also lacked a "Do Not Disturb" sign to be able to use. The bed was uncomfortable enough to cause fitful, trouble sleeping for both of us, and it had pillows stained by age.  To successfully use the room heater required flipping a switch in a separate location from the thermostat controls. The surge protector electrical power strip for guest use in the room had a loose connection that drained cellphones plugged into it instead of charging them.  The bathroom sink was my least favorite room aspect, with a huge, open drain hole eagerly waiting to swallow anything dropped and no soap dish for the tiny piece of soap. The front desk staff was kind but the cleaning staff very rudely gossiped loudly outside of the rooms about their opinions of guests. We were also verbally hurried by the cleaning staff to checkout at 10:50.  My boyfriend would rate our experience only 1 star and said he would never want to stay here again, but I'm giving it 3 because it was the lowest cost hotel room in all of PT when planning our trip. Lower in cost even than the "budget" hotels near Safeway!  The location is convenient for tourists, it has good views (including of the water), and the chocolate shop located next door is a nice treat.

Loved staying in this old building! So interesting and unique. The room felt enormous with it's crazy high ceilings. Perfect location. I know it's a historic building, but the rooms do feel like they could use an extra touch of historically accurate detailing, since those huge tall walls feel plain. Either way, I'd stay here again. But definitely unfortunate I wouldn't be able to bring elderly parents who can't do a giant flight of stairs.

We’ve been going to this hotel, formerly the Waterstreet Hotel for almost 30 years. If you’re looking for upscale, don’t bother. But if you can appreciate a wide selection of spacious rooms with original furnishings, quirky arrangements (the bathroom sink is outside the bathroom rather that within), all at a good price, you will find yourself in the heart of their little downtown right on the water. We have stayed in their largest rooms with their private decks and hanging porch swings, kitchens, loft beds when our children joined us. This time just a large room with two very comfortable beds. They allow dogs though we came alone this time. There are no elevators so expect to haul your belongings up a considerable flight of stairs. But the sign in process is quick and charming and you’ll be awarded with sets of actual keys to your doors. No frills, just solid accommodations with historic charm in an excellent location.

To say I was disappointed with our stay at the Monarch is an understatement. Our third floor room was 56 steps up, a difficult climb for two 70+ year-olds. The room itself was, for lack of a better word, shabby. The furniture showed many scrapes and bruises. The one upholstered chair was old and beaten up, and it was so low that one struggled to get up from it. The advertised coffee and tea service was nonexistent. The bed was fine, the only saving grace. We loved the idea of staying in a Victorian era hotel, but old shouldn't mean shabby. This room would have been a bad buy at half the price, but for ~$200, it was a total ripoff. Suffice it to say we won’t be staying there again, and we will encourage our friends to do the same.

We booked last minute for bday night /one night stay. From the moment I called and spoke to Mary, who was able to book after we thought it was full, to wishing me a Happy birthday when we arrived, to getting us in earlier than said check in, we have nothing but good to say about the awesome room/apt size hotel room we were staying with water views .There was a large king size bed, (comfortable bed), double bed and additional loft bed that could easily have housed 5-6 people. A full size kitchen, step up bathroom, outside porch with picnic table and huge swing that overlooks the bay. Such a beautiful place, ambience; didn’t want to leave. Quaint little town that I would highly suggest a visit if you’ve never been. Walking on the ferry is also advised for a short visit. I can’t say enough about how amazing this trip was!!

This is a cool old school hotel. My family stayed here for 2 nights and it was great. The view from the 3rd floor is fantastic. Within walking distance of great restaurants and bars. Also an 8 minute walk to go on Pugett Sound Whale watching tour. Beds are comfortable and rooms are large. No elevators so be prepared to climb some stairs. Totally worth the climb, though.

Stayed here one night with my sister who was visiting from overseas and we loved it! We had Suite #19 and were astonished at the size of it! We love old, historic and funky places, so this was right up our alley! We cooked dinner in the well equipped kitchen and enjoyed the sunny and bright main room! The bed was very comfortable and while the furniture was old (fitting with the old hotel), it was clean! Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

We arrived in Port Townsend in the late afternoon. We walked around town and saw this hotel that looked interesting. The desk clerk on duty was very friendly. We decided to stay here and asked for a water view. The price of the room was a little high but since it was downtown we said OK. We registered and the clerk gave us our room keys. We walked through the door and wandered all over the establishment, wecould not find our room. We went back to the front desk and asked where our room was. The clerk did not know!! She had to call the manager who told me. The clerk told me this was the first time alone at the desk. ||It was a nice big room with a comfortable bed, and nice chair and table/chairs. It had WI-FI. There was a heating/cooling unit on the wall but the remote did not work. ||That evening, I found out that we needed to shorten this trip. I went to the front desk to see if I could cancel the second night. The front desk was closed. There is a staff person in residence in the room next to ours. We were walking to check out the fire escape and walked past their apartment and the door was open. They said they could not make a determination and I needed to talk with the manager when he gets in the following morning. I also told them that about the heater remote not working. ||The front desk does not open till 10 am on weekdays. Checkout is by 11 am. I went in to talk to the manager who had stepped out. I left my phone number and he called me. I went back and told him my story that I needed to checkout early. He said there are no refunds and he would charge me for the second night. I suggested that since we were walk-ins, we really did not cancel our reservation, we were additional income at least for one night. He reiterated that he would charge me for the second night. I also told him about the remote control. He wrote it down.||I went to the front desk at 10:20 am on checkout day to turn in the keys and the front door was locked with a sign stating they would be back in 10 minutes. The front desk opens at 10 am and they need to close it for 10 minutes 20 minutes later? I knocked on the door and the resident staff person open the door. They were nice but were not happy after they asked me about our stay?||The remote was never fixed.||I feel the price was excessive given customer service and amenities. They are a few better choices available in town.|
