The Melrose, Bed & Bath - Hotel in Ocean Grove - 34 Seaview Ave, USA

The location is excellent but that's the only good thing....I'm sad to say that I've never had a worse experience then when we stayed at The Melrose and I LOVE Ocean Grove! Apparently it used to be great when owned by a kind, local Ocean Grove family. Now, there is no one on site to address issues like the barely functional AC during a heat wave and no cups for coffee, a severely slanted floor which made the bed very uncomfortable and only half a roll of toilet tissue, a few TINY towels, no beach accessories like chairs or umbrellas. The shower leaked into the room below and when i saw someone coming in to clean, I politely went to inform her of the leak and she started screaming at me like a hysterical banshee - her name was Sheila. I could go on, but please, save your money and your peace of mind and avoid The Melrose!

Do not book a stay here unless you want to waste a bunch of money for a filthy room accompanied by a cold shower, AND awful service. I can’t say I’ve ever had a worse experience. Not sure where to even begin. Just save yourself the money because if you have any issues or need a refund.. the host will dismiss your needs over and over again. Thanks to airbnb I was able to get my money back. The room didn’t even look like the pictures posted, was a lot smaller and the extra rooms like couch are NOT in the private tiny residence you will be spending a fortune on. I had a better experience and room at the motel I was forced to stay at the night of my Melrose reservation.

First let me start off by saying the location is perfect, literally a block from the beach and the view from the balcony over looking the water is very nice. I will say that the pictures on google are very deceiving, the entrance way is a small sitting area with a coffee pot and some coffee pods, and two little couches. Walking down a hallway with doors on either side that are rooms. We enter our room, what I walk into is literally a bathroom, I thought we entered the wrong room at first, it took a second or two until I realized I had to look behind the door I just opened to the bedroom. The bed was comfortable, wobbly, and needed to have its legs replaced, the pillows were lumpy, lumpy like you just stuffed some laundry in a pillow case and called it a day. So, if I were you I would bring my own pillows. The bedroom, or room with a bed in it, was small, but did have a nice little rack to keep our bags and clothing hanging. Other than that, there was no storage. The bathroom that you enter into did have a good size mini fridge, which was nice. Now, the portion of that bathroom that you shower and use the toilet is another story. I am 6 ft tall about 230 pounds, my girlfriend is also 6ft tall, the shower stall is no bigger than a phone booth. I literally had to step out of the shower to wash my feet it was so tiny. The toilet was stuffed into a corner, in which was very tight and difficult to utilize. The small bathroom is one thing, but the ants, and ant trap in the bathroom was a bit much, we had dozens of ants in the bathroom as our weekend went along. For spending nearly $500 I expected a little more space, no ants, and an overall better room. Especially since the pictures make it seem like you are getting a top of the line, modern, spacious room. I would recommend this spot ONLY for the location. I went off season. I gave it two stars for service due to not having to interact with any staff, nor was there any staff to interact with. They did send me several e-mails prior to check in with proper clear instructions, which was a positive. It seems as if they converted as many spaces into rooms to max out their income. Great place in a beautiful town. We actually stayed for President's Day weekend in February to see a show in Asbury. This bed & bath offered a cozy stay, 5 minutes from the venue at a value price. We look forward to staying again in the future.

Well for one the guest service was awful. The the manager was so rude and entitled. I originally made a mistake when it came to booking my room and she insisted that I was an idiot and didn’t do anything to accommodate, insisted that I spent more money on another night, or that I cancel my booking and allow them to take all my money for nothing. Then they charge a ridiculous cleaning fee that’s over the nightly cost for a room which is comical for me because the room was filthy, the bathroom didn’t smell clean I didn’t even want to use the shower and on top of that they have bed bugs ! I would never stay here again, during the mix up I was out of room for a night and was greatly hosted by the Majestic Hotel around the corner which is A REAL hotel right off of the beach, with amazing guest service, breakfast, GORGEOUS rooms with balconies , super clean and honestly it’s cheaper than the Melrose because they don’t have these crazy “cleaning” fees. If it wasn’t for the location I feel like no one would ever book the Melrose. They have manipulative staff, and nasty below par rooms. They had the audacity on the phone to compare themselves to a Hilton or Sheraton.

It was a good location. No breakfast at least in Dec2024 when we|went. Room2B small with no chairs or table. Good heat, good shower, working small frig. No view. No way to change room when we saw how small. Password entrance code not offered until you complete contract. I'd through breing a B&B there'd be some one thereto talk to regarding the business. Had to make emergency call to California from the porch.

Great location and decent rooms, but customer service is abysmal. My mother-in-law made a mistake when booking rooms and tried to resolve it right away via their email support. She was met with a dismissive and condescending attitude by the staff member on the other end. Her last email asking for assistance didn't even get a response back and the issue was never resolved. The rooms were comfortable but the walls are paper thin and you can hear everything outside the room. Our bathroom door also didn't latch. AC in the room was very nice, though. Beware that there is no staff on location besides housekeeping staff who come through to clean. The location is great with just a few minutes walk to the beach. Our overall stay was fine while we were there, but the lack of professionalism and hospitality of the owners really soured my opinion of this business. I got the impression that they like to collect passive income from this property and are annoyed by any customers having the audacity to bother them with questions or issues regarding their stay. The next time we're in town we'll stay elsewhere.

Loved it! I needed a place near the beach to pray, breathe, think and start to heal and this was perfect. I gave a 4 for rooms, as there was an issue upon arrival, but it was definitely addressed. I gave a 4 for location because it’s about a block and a half from the beach, not ON, the beach. Technically, you can see the ocean, but not as much as I thought I would. It ended out being fine though! The river across the street is very nice! The view of the river was clear from my room. I gave a 5 for hosting and service because of the rapid and efficient response to my concern upon arrival. I will be back!!!!!! I LOVED my room, 3A!!!! It was bright, quaint, cozy, PEACEFUL, and adorable. I felt safe, in my room, and at home! I will be back! Thank you for having me! ❤️
