Excellent hike to hit while in town. Steep so if you have knee issues bring poles. About 30 min up and 30 min down. Pleat of benches through our hike to rest as needed. Bathrooms available before hike begins😉
The benches on every switchback were definitely needed as we are not in shape to do this hike without stopping to rest frequently, but we were passing through and wanted to see the view anyway. Dogs did great on the trail, have to hike poop bags back out to the trail head, permitless parking available at university after 4 pm on weekdays.
What a beautiful view . Bring your water and take pictures . A good hike for the moderate hiker .

I hike the M every time I can get to Montana. Great trail with 13-14 switchbacks. It gets easier every time I do it! They make sure to take care of the trail. You’ll be sure to see fellow hikers with smiling faces and hellos. Plus a few dogs too! The view of Missoula is fantastic. I’m sure it is even more gorgeous during the fall when the trees have color.

We had a good time hiking this M as well as the L on the next hill. For the M trailhead pull up near the Montana University dormitories next to the M Hill and you'll see an outside restroom there's visitor parking there and they're six parking spots that are designated for hill hiking where you do not need any University of Montana parking permit.
Relatively easy hike if going at your own pace. Pretty nice view of Missoula once at the top. We hiked during the early morning but this could easily be a VERY nice sunset view
