Perhaps others were looking for rustic and got it here, hence the positive reviews. We stayed for one night and found it quite lacking for the price we were charged. Yes, it is being slowly fixed up by the owners (trying to save money), but the quality of the work is not very professional. The window air conditioner unit inserted in a double-hung window was not sealed up adequately. The room door had a half inch gap that could let in insects, rodents and cold air. |But the most disturbing event occurred just after we checked in. Our reservation was honored, but a couple we were traveling with arrived 20 minutes after us and were told their room had been double booked and they had no accommodations for them. The owner claimed she had tried to reach them two weeks earlier to tell them, but no message was received (they were on the road from the east coast to Colorado). Considering we both made these reservations in late APRIL (4+ months earlier) and were charged one night's stay at that time, why was our friends' room given to another guest? Very unprofessional and unfriendly treatment. And my friends had to request that their room deposit be refunded. The owners never initiated the refund when they sold the room to others. Borderline dishonesty in our opinion. All other hotels in Salida and Pagosa Springs were fully booked, so they had to drive another 90 minutes in the dark to Canon City where they found accommodations (but without any help from The Lodge at Poncha Springs owners).

Spent one snowy night at this cozy little motel. The room was clean, warm and everything we needed, plus there was a fire pit outside. The staff is friendly and recommended us where to eat as well. We will come back for another stay again!

We had a dreamy summer vacation this year, I’m so happy we stayed|The Lodge in Poncha Springs! The new owners are so fun and welcoming. |The Lodge was a perfect home base for all the fun things we got do in this gorgeous area. |Shopping in Salida, riding bikes, running trails, rafting the river on a family friendly float, swimming in the river, we were all happy with local activities, and lots of great places to eat. |The Lodge rooms were quiet, clean, and spacious, really nice blankets & pillows. |The Nest was the perfect space for all of us to spread out, to have foods we needed close on hand|with the fridge and kitchen space, separate rooms for the kids, and there was even a bathtub for the baby!|The courtyard and fire pit are a great space for unwinding at the end of the day, excited to come back and visit again.

This 1950's era motel is under renovation by recent new owners. It is located in a convenient place near the intersection of U.S. 50 and U.S. 285, just west of Salida. The owner met us in the office and pleasantly welcomed us to his motel and beginning project. |Our room had two queen beds that were very comfortable but took up a lot of space in the room; that didn't leave much room for two people to move around. It appeared that while the room and bathroom were clean and neat the furnishings were somewhat hodgepodge and perhaps were reused from the accommodation's earlier life. The TV was smallish for today's expectations. Linens and towels appeared new. The location was quiet even though the motel is just off the highway. |A food truck that had interesting food choices is next door for breakfast, and there is a steakhouse restaurant accross the highway within walking distance. There was a coffee pot with coffee packets and condiments but no microwave. |We thought the price for one night was reasonable for the location and time of year.|The accommodation consists of several buildings in close random distance from eath other which gives a nice "feel" to the facility.|We wish the new owners success in their new endeavor. We'd definitely stay again.||

This place was a GEM! I don't normally leave hotel reviews, but this was a little roadside paradise. The owners just clearly love this place and it shows. Ww sat by the firepit out back and watched the sun set over the mountains. In the morning we took super hot showers and then got homemade burritos and dirty chai from the food truck just next door. It just felt homey. Five stars, loved it!

The room was small but really pretty, with a beautifully tiled bathroom, and super-comfortable bed. It's right near the main road, but the noise was very minimal. Extremely clean inside and out, wood-paneled walls, quiet, and did I mention the very comfortable bed?
