Just lovely! In our case we were on a major budget but also needed to get out of town as a family and took advantage of off-season Maine. We booked the Inn before I read some of the reviews here and I cringed! However, we are so pleasantly surprised! We checked in during check-in hours and were greeted by a friendly clerk. He immediately answered my 12yo’s questions about their ghost story with good humor. Our room is clean and perfect for our needs (2 room queen suite ). It isn’t huge but it gives our family space. Is it old? Yes, but you know it’s historic when you book. Is it “understaffed”? In comparison to their chain competitors, maybe. We’re Hilton diamond members and i have seen much worse at chains. But it is a homey feel and a lovely stay. If you want a uniform stay, there are plenty of big names in the area. But if you want to explore downtown and the coast line, this is a lovely, affordable, family friendly hotel. Well done!

Based on other reviews I thought this inn would be a great location and charming. Unfortunately when we arrived the entire place smelled like moth balls. We entered our room to find a King bed that looked as if it had a pull out mattress on it and felt that way as well. ||||We arrived around 4pm on a Saturday afternoon and the local wine bar was closed and there were not any restaurants close by besides in the inn that were open or had a decent menu. It was like a ghost town in the middle of July. We could not find an uber or a lyft in the area to take us to the Boat House Restaurant which was 15 minutes away. ||||On a positive note the young lady at the front desk was very sweet. It wasn't her fault the place was less than desirable.||||We literally brought our stuff in, went to dinner and drove back to RI that night. 10 out of 10 definitely do not recommend!

We stayed here for an overnight, and while we didn't get a chance to check out the tavern or walk around because of the rain, it was a lovely stay. Very clean and classic old new England style hotel. The walls are thin though, so it can be tough to get a good night sleep.

This is the first review I have ever written in all the places I've stayed thru booking. Do not stay here unless you want terrible customer service and a terrible nights sleep. Pay more for a better Inn. There is not enough staff. I tried calling throughout the day before we got there and was continually put thru to an answering service. They sent a text for any concerns and did not reply to it. After getting there late, our room was hot with a very LOUD air conditioner window unit. It made a terrible buzzing sound. My children were trying to find outlets to charge their electronics and all did not hold the plug..they fell out..this is a fire hazard! The bathroom door would not latch. We decided to leave as we did not want to be up all night with the air conditioner buzzing on and off and barely giving off air...it was on its last leg. The staff member was new and didn't know what to do with my concerns and could not reach the inn keeper (said the reception was bad). I tried to work with the manager two days later 9 they were not interested in resolving) to get a partial refund. They refused. The Inn is old and creaky..not why we left, but keep this in mind.. you can hear everything and the person in the room next to you as well. We do not recommend!

The website doesn’t honestly present a true picture of the condition of the Inn. Upon our arrival, we were not greeted friendly and professionally. As we returned from an outing, the staff never looked up or spoke to us at all. Two boys working saw us struggling to get a suitcase up the stairs and never offered to help. The shower instructions said 8 minutes to get hot water. After 15 minutes it was only lukewarm. We had to retrieve something from our car late at night and the doors of the Inn were not locked and secure. We are sad to report the staff was less than hospitable and the conditions of the Inn were lacking.

Nice old inn. The restaurant was clos3d but the 2 local restaurants give a discount for breakfast in town. The stairs are steep and not a good place for seniors. The only negatives were the price and the noise from the Waterhouse Center where they play pickell ball. It is very annoying hearing those balls bounce every afternoon and evening. They should tell the guests about the noise in the rooms on the Northside prior to taking the reservation.

The inn was very cute, but very dated. We’ve stayed in multiple inns while in Maine and this was not the worst or the best. The AC is loud but expected for an old building. The door to our room didn’t close all the way (needed to be sealed, you could see light all the way around) so you could hear everything from the hallway or lobby. Again, all par for the course. Our big complaint was on Memorial Day there was only one staff member who sat in the unopened restaurant the entire day on her phone and just stared at us every time we walked past. We we’re looking for silverware and a microwave (since the restaurant was not open and no breakfast was provided) and she never offered to help and she was too stand off-ish for us to approach. We may have just come too early in the year for good service, but it felt more like an abandoned building than an inn. The owner (I assume) was very nice and her kids were sweet and not loud while we checked in. VERY convenient EV charging close to the hotel.

This was our last nights stay in the States and had we not had a restaurant booking nearby, I would have moved to another establishment. In fact in hindsight I wish we had moved elsewhere straight after the meal. ||Pros|Clean rooms.||Cons|No staff member on site at 4pm!! We collected envelopes with names on / keys inside. Found our rooms - one at the very front of the hotel and one at the very back. One king size and one double. We were traveling with teens and needed one to be a twin room as per our booking. We rang the out of hrs service number and a girl said a message would be passed on to the manager. That was at 430. We went for a drive around the coastline and at 630 rang again. The manager would call or email us back. 4 weeks later and we're still waiting!! When we returned from our meal we had to make do. The kids took the king size room and tried to use clothing to divide it. We were worried we were so far away from them in an almost empty hotel, that anyone could enter. I hardly slept. |No breakfast of any sort - just a voucher for money off a local bakery.|No one in reception when we checked out|Tea/ coffee only available a few hours each day....||Tips to visitors|Don't stay here until they have sorted any issues out, provide some facilities such as kettles. Once updated with staff on site I can imagine it to be a great place to stay but not at present. ||Tips to management|Check bookings|Staff your reception |If a customer rings the service line, ring or email back|If a customer rings the service line a second time, get down to the hotel to sort|In an almost empty, huge hotel, don't allocate parents and children rooms at opposite ends of the hotel......||Overall this establishment clearly needs an overhaul across the board, esp needing a member of staff on site. I have never given such a poor rating for a hotel. But 4 of us (Inc the teens) all agreed it was a terrible stay and not a nice ending to our break. We did not feel either welcome or secure. ||Would we stay here again? No||

Quite literally one of the most charming inns, with quite a bit of history. I love that it’s not in the heart of the downtown with all the noise. The entire inn was spotless. The bed was very comfortable, and the linens were a really nice quality.

Best lobster roll I've had yet! I got the hot lobster option with butter vs cold with mayo. That is the winner! Grabbed some fries and a root beer and I was in heaven. Definitely coming back again. Service was awesome!

This is such a cute little stop! The store has all sorts of goodies, hot fresh sandwiches, pastries, and hot and iced coffee. The muffin we got was delicious and the coffee is make you're own. We made a cold brew coffee with maple flavor shot in it.

1st time visitor- In town with my two larger dogs and wanted a spot to exercise them. Lots of room for them to play and explore! Plenty of benches and seating for the owners. Looks like folks do a good job of keeping the place clean, too.
