The Hulman - American restaurant in Indianapolis - 141 E Washington St, USA

The atmosphere in this restaurant is great. It looks amazing and is a great place to hang out. The cocktail menu is innovative and the service is fantastic. Food was good but I wouldn't say great. While the pork tenderloin and cornbread dish was good it wasn't hot and pork want easy to cut. The duck main needed more flavor.

Great atmosphere for an after work gathering! I had a few Old Fashioned and they were great. They also happen to use those perfectly round and clear ice cubes, which is a nice bonus. While you’re there, go upstairs to check out the views off the balcony. Easily one of the best views in the city.

We bought two tickets to their New Years Eve dinner. The restaurant was occupied to about 50% capacity when we checked in with the host. We arrived on time, were seated but then didn’t see a server. I waited for ten minutes before I approached the host to ask if we had been assigned a server and even then there was an additional delay before they came to our table. The menu was pre-selected for the evening so ordering was extremely quick. The first course didn’t take long to arrive but, we didn’t get entree’s for another hour, and the remainder of the courses were extremely rushed. The food was good but didn’t measure up to the price as both our steaks were over cooked. In short, I’d rather spend my money elsewhere. We were shocked that the service was such a disaster. Definitely soured our evening and we left disappointed.

First time at the Hulman. Charles was the perfect host. My wife had the Half Chicken and I had the KC Striploin. Both entrees were prepared perfectly. During dinner the chef came to the table and told us about his inspiration for his dishes. After dinner Charles gave us a history of the building and asked us if we’d like to take a look at the rooftop bar where we enjoyed wine and a chocolate torte. Would highly recommend this place for a special evening.

It’s a fine place with beautiful ambience. They have a great bar and sorted out drink menu. The service is exceptional. Menu has couple of vegetarian options and they are nice. We loved the bread and the Aranchini from the appetisers. As it was raining on that day, it made it even more delicious. It is creamy and crunchy. The Pumpkin pasta from entree is good. A little more sauce and few extra minutes of cooking would have made it perfect. Our host was really nice. On a busy night she managed to handle everyone with utmost ease. Definitely recommend the place around the corner. 👍🏻

I loved the ambience and service at the restaurant. The place gets busy after 6:30, so reservations are recommended. There is coat check available. We started with Gluten and Dairy and the breads were delicious, so was the locally sourced butter. The Black Truffle Aranchini was delicate and lovely to eat. For it's richness, the portion size was appropriate. The Autumn Squash Mezzaluna tasted good, but needed 5 more minutes in the water to make it perfect along with a bit more sauce. I was sad to see the Cauliflower with Madras Spice out of the menu though. I hope they bring it back. Overall a really good restaurant with good service and food.

This place has some of the best food in downtown Indy, very friendly! Service and food is 10 out of 10. Eggplant Sandwich is probably the best I have ever had. Very cool modern place, Wife and I went there for lunch and it wasn’t busy at all!

Super accommodating! I was traveling for work and needed food. I had mouth surgery a week ago and was concerned about a menu item I wanted to eat. My wonderful server Charles listened and then brought the chef out to meet with me. The chef discussed some options, and then he made the most delicious and perfectly accommodating plate for my delicate mouth. He even made me two pasta options incase one worked better than the other, and put everything separately on my plate in case something didn’t work out. I am so impressed and will definitely be visiting again!
