I can honestly say that it was way beyond our expectations. The house itself was gorgeous as was the million dollar view we had from our room. The room was clean and beautiful. The breakfast was top notch, as was the history info we got from Simon (the owner) during. The staff was also so wonderful. My wife and I will be back and we will recommend The Hancock House to anyone. We'll done owner and staff. We are not easily impressed, but we are this time!!!!

If you want the experience of staying in a beautiful Victorian mansion on a bluff above the Mississippi River this is the place. We stayed in the room known as the library. I had the best nights sleep away from home. Simon yhe owner has done so much work in rehabbing the place. He is also very knowledgeable about the history of the mansion and the town. Had a very nice breakfast also. Thank you.

My wife and I had a relaxing Memorial Day weekend. The house has a lot of antiques, which added to the ambiance. We enjoyed the group breakfast. Simon explained the history of the house and had good recommendations for day trips and local restaurants. We stayed in the Doll Room. The view from the hot tub was phenomenal. We definitely recommend the Hancock House.

Beautiful antique house from yesteryear with lots of character and a great view of the city. Each room has its own unique theme. Bed was comfortable and room was clean. Steps away from the steep steps leading into the downtown area and multiple breweries & coffee shops. Breakfast was nice. Driving distance to Galena and the field of dreams. If I ever ended up in this area again, I'd stay here in a heartbeat. Thanks Simon!

Beautiful place to stay. Felt like a museum. Easy check in and out. We were there during the week so didn't get a chance to try the breakfast. It was great sitting on the porch, sipping wine, and looking out over the river. My only complaint was my room was 75 degrees when we got there. Finally got it down to 70 by midnight. A/C must turn off during the night. Woke up sweating during the night and it was 73 and no air movement.

SIMON is so extremely rude. My father in law booked my mother in law an anniversary trip, he has some extreme medical conditions and went into a medical episode. They not only refused to refund (which at the end of the day, it was last minute so I somewhat understand), however, he had zero empathy and responded extremely rude. He was very blatant about not caring that he had a medical condition. He made it very clear, and straight up said he “will not lose his money because of somebody else’s medical emergency”. My mother in law even asked if instead of a refund, they could just get a credit and come when he recovers. Simon said absolutely not; it’s not my problem. Also, read the other reviews and the way they respond to ANY criticism. It seems as though they refuse to hold themselves accountable for anything negative. A good manager/owner would make things right, or Atleast have some kindness. Clearly according to the other reviews, Simon is known to have a cold, rude disposition.

Beautiful Room with a gorgeous view of the city of Dubuque, the bluffs and the Mississippi river! The house is truly a Victorian gem for the city of Dubuque situated on a hillside above the city with its wonderful rooms, stair case, dinning room and wrap-around porch. The Dollhouse room we stayed in was quaint, charming and quiet and had a jacuzzi situated in the round windows. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom very nice. Our host and owner of the property Simon was very cordial and welcoming, and gave us loads of information about the city and where to visit. The breakfast the next morning was very tasty and perfectly prepared and Simon gave us a history of the home during the meal. This was our first time staying in a Bed and Breakfast, and I was a little nervous about it thinking it might be a "Bill Murray and Groundhog Day" experience for us, but I can tell you it wasn't...it was wonderful!...and I highly recommend you staying at the Hancock House when you visit the Dubuque area.

Been trying to get here for years, and was finally able to make-it when they're open. LOTS of options (from sandwiches, to meats, to prepared meals), all seemed very reasonably priced. It's not a big place, but they pack a lot into the small space (
