The staff was so friendly and inviting, the food was prepared quickly and it's delicious! I got the brunch bowl (I subbed in goat cheese grits) and the it was jam packed with flavors, from savory bacon to sweet maple syrup. My wife got the chicken Cesar salad and we got a pomegranate and a pineapple mimosa! For 2 people the cost was high for a meal, but honestly for the quality of this food it's incredible. For the record I do not like grits, I enjoyed these grits tremendously!
Actually my sister found this place and it was a good fine. They offer a good taste of South Carolina and/or southern cuisine. The spot in North Charleston is easy to access. There is plenty of free parking. You can dine in, order your meal cafeteria style of go to the bar where the server will take care of your order. Service was quick and one hot tip is to be sure to sample the sweet corn.
The food at this location is really just ok for my first experience being here. My main plate, which consisted of a fried chicken, gravy, egg and a biscuit was warm at best and cold, given the item. The chicken was barely warm and wasn't really all that tender, as well as the gravy. It makes sense given that they served it to me in maybe four minutes max. It had a fairly good taste, but the fact that it wasn't hot, it couldn't be that fresh. I also ordered a side of a waffle. I'm not sure how the waffle was made, but it was pretty dry and had a funny taste to it like it may have been frozen and then heated up. I can be wrong, but that's what it tasted like. The waffle wasn't that good. Lastly, I know that a lot more businesses are really offloading the credit charge to customers now, but be aware that you will be charged 3.5% for using a credit card. And this is another restaurant that asks for a tip before any service has even begun. The only service you will get is them bringing the food to your table and you put your own dishes away.
I loved this place. I wanted some good grits on my trip to Charleston and the Grit Counter delivered. We sat at the counter and got to chat with the super nice bartender, Zac, who gave us some awesome recommendations (Church & Union) which we ended up following and enjoying! The Self Respecting Southerner grit bowl was so awesome, really seemed like something you’d get at a much more “upscale” establishment. Don’t be fooled by the fast-casual atmosphere, here. I watched the staff fillet a salmon in real time. You can tell that they take the food here seriously both in the details of how they work and also in the taste of what they serve. I have no negative feedback and would 100% recommend the Grit Counter to friends.
Very nice atmosphere. There is a full seating area. I noticed many people having meetings or were there with their families. There is also a full bar as soon as you walk in. Greeted upon arriving. I appreciated the fact that the staff was very helpful in regards to the menu since there were so many options. The eating area was clean. The staff wiped down tables as soon as someone got up. The restrooms also looked and smelled clean. The food is fine. I ordered a hot chicken. This is my second time getting it. Very dry and not really hot . I didn’t see that they offered shrimp and grits, which is a staple in the Charleston area. This surprised me. I have only tried the grits since they opened. If I decide to come back, I will try something other than breakfast.
We were staying at the hotel next door so decided to taste the grits one evening. We did the tasting of 6 flavors and really enjoyed them! Price was fair. We saw they carry sweet corn ice cream so had to try it - unfortunately it came as a banana pudding not plain so you couldn’t taste it at all and only the banana. And the price was too high for the size. Inside seemed very clean and the employees were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Visiting this establishment and not partaking in one of the grit bowls is a sin. Intriguing flavors and hefty portions are the reasons I'd definitely return. The hospitality of the crew was the cherry on top.
Food was excellent, but the ordering process was confusing. I didn't expect counter service, so I was a little overwhelmed. The restaurant was so noisy and hard to hear your name for your order. We all loved our food, especially the creamy grits. We had chix and waffles, hot chix sandwich, fried pickles, shrimp and grits, and kids chix n cheese grits. The grits were the best grits I've ever eaten. They were creamy and cheesy, you must try these! We will be back, but we might get to-go food instead of eating inside.
