Personally I think the negative reviewers are just complainers. I stayed here for 3 nights and I have to say, whole place is top notch. Yes its old, ITS HISTORIC. The staff is incredible the rooms are clean, and the food was good. Really enjoyed coffee by the fireplace in the morning and wish I had more time here to explore all this place has to offer when I am not here on company time.

We stayed here over Christmas and I cannot even begin to tell you how overpriced and fluffed up this place is. The historic aspect is quite cool, and it keeps that step back in time to old money south feel, but upon closer inspection you can see the cracks. And a lot of cracks there are. The place could use a fine dusting, half the furniture hasn’t been cleaned or polished in years and it shows. The staff is very friendly, we never met a person that wasn’t helpful and always on point. Can’t say enough for them, most especially since they were working over Christmas. That’s the only good thing to say really. The food is standard fare at double the price with tacked on fees for everything. And if the place reflected the proceeds maybe the fees wouldn’t bite as much but for all the helpfulness of the staff, you can tell the place is sinking into the ground like a shed behind a nice house that someone is neglecting. I wouldn’t recommend unless you have more money than you know what do do with and want to toss it around. I can only surmise the 5 star reviews are from people attempting to convince other people that the thousands they spent were in fact worth it.

From the moment we arrived at the grand entrance, we were greeted with impeccable service and a warm welcome. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was nothing short of exceptional. The hotel's elegant design and sophisticated ambiance created a truly luxurious atmosphere. The room was spacious and beautifully appointed, equipped with every amenity imaginable. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the linens were of the finest quality.

I was at the Greenbrier twice this year -- once in March and once in December. Everything was exquisite, just beautiful. December was very crowded and busy, but that's to be expected. i prefer other seasons, but my daughter loves the Christmas scene there! I've never had better banquet food -- a veal chop that was out of this world. The dining room is elegant, but my favorites are Prime 44 West, a Ruth's Chris type steakhouse, and The Forum, absolutely delicious Italian food. The Dorothy Draper decor is stunning -- vibrant and bright, and around every corner you see magnificent antiques and fireplaces and designer touches. Why is the lobby bar called "Twelve Oaks?" Because the giant beautiful crystal chandelier is the actual one from Gone With The Wind, the 12 Oaks plantation of the Wilkes family... details like that, adding to the charm of a beautiful place. Complementary Tea in the lobby sitting room every afternoon is so civilized and lovely. This really is "America's Resort."

Celebrated NYE with my wife at the Greenbrier! It was a wonderful time. We partied to ring in the New Year at the Glitz and Glam event followed by a day of relaxation at the spa and pool. The food at Prime44 is amazing and I loved having the Main Dining room’s breakfast buffet. The room was spacious and well maintained. We thoroughly enjoyed the Bunker Tour and the Escape Room. We “escaped” with 9 minutes to spare. Highly recommend the Greenbrier for couples, families, and friends.

We loved every moment of the trip from afternoon tea, the history tours, the meals, our room, the evening movie, the shopping, and especially interacting with the other guests and the employees. We met so many wonderful people who go out of their way to make your stay wonderful. It was my husband's first visit and he absolutely loved it. He's already already thinking about our next trip. The highlight for me was the breakfast buffet in the dining room. It's the best breakfast you will find anywhere. Yes, the Greenbrier is pricy. Is it worth it? Absolutely!

For such a historic location with wonderful history, I was shocked how much it has changed since it changed hands. It went from a true experience to just another unkept resort that has over priced services, hidden fees, and a casino feel. There was no warm feeling or atmosphere anymore. Most workers were genuine and pleasant. The others were cold and disconcerning. The worst part was a few of the spa services were literally subpar. When a worker knows they are making 20% on a service automatically they just dont pit the work in. It was overpriced and insulting to think people have nothing to compare it to. Our room had torn stained carpet and a peeling ceiling in the bathroom and the furniture was just tossed anywhere. Lets just say the trill us gone at this location. You are just paying for the name , so buy the book and read it at a proper resort. |

Summary: Expensive and not-perfect. But still well worth visiting at least once. This was our first visit. We came for the Christmas weekend with our kids. Room: We stayed in a deluxe room and it was well worth the additional price. The room was huge and clean. Bathroom very nice and shower was great. Beds are comfortable and the room was very quiet. Food: Our room service breakfast arrived an hour late, which was lame and threw our entire morning off. But, when it did arrive, it was good. We did the dinner at Whoville and the food there was also pretty tasty. Activities: The Santa photos, afternoon tea, and tree lighting were all very nice. Bowling alley and arcade were fun. Resort grounds are well kept and I thought the property itself was in good shape considering. There are plenty of areas that look worn, but what do you expect given the size of the property and it's age. So much to see even with just walking around and admiring the decorations. Price: Its a lot of money, especially with the fees. But as a special occasion, we really enjoyed it.
