Special dietary needs ? choice? Preferences? Sensitive, intolerant needs? They can accommodate all and healthy choices with huge variety . They have things in fridge ready to go and freezer meals that you take home and heat up or save for when ready . They have menu that comes out every Monday and you pick what you’d like then Thursday it’s ready for pickup. Nice to break it up into trying something new yet healthy .
I visited The Grateful Chef to grab something quick and healthy for lunch recently and was surprised by how unique and wonderful this place is. It seems like more of a location to grab larger, pre-made lunch and dinner meals - there is a giant selection of really creative, delicious sounding meals that need to be taken home and baked off. As for me and my needs, I was wanting something immediate and had a hard time between choosing the grab-n-go options... so I got the two that I wanted most: A fresh veggie and hummus sandwich and a smashed chickpea salad. The sandwich was very fresh, had unique flavors and texture, and was both light and balanced, and the smashed chickpea salad was also exciting with the flavor combinations and texture (red onion, dill pickles, turmeric, mustard). I don't have any allergies and haven't adopted any sort of diet (gluten-free, vegan, etc.), but these options both fell under those categories and I completely loved them both. I am new to Des Moines, and even more new to what the south side has to offer, so this was such a wonderful surprise. I will definitely be back and plan on telling more people about this place - especially friends and family that are looking for exciting vegan &/or gluten free options.
Finally made it to this local gem, and it lived up to the recommendations. I'm vegan and the selection was great, plenty of options, both ready to eat and frozen. You can also pre order food, which I've heard is also really top notch food. Stop by and try this place out if you haven't already.
The crew at Grateful Chef are very welcoming and helpful. They offer great made ahead meals you order on Monday and pickup Thurs or Friday's. They offer gluten free, vegan, paleo options regularly. They also have fresh made salads and other goodies to purchase. I have loved all the food I have ordered from here. I have had one problem when the gluten free pasta was mush and the credited back my money for that dish. Highly recommend.
This place I the freaking best! Good for the body and great for the soul! There grab and go case is great for lunch or you can do the freezer food meals they create, food for the whole family at an amazing price . Meat eaters, Paleo, gluten free, vegans or veggies this place is a great one stop shop for everything and absolutely darling decor.
Love, love, love this place. My go-to for super inventive, high-quality, take and bake entrees.
This was my 1st visit, I became aware of it from other Google guides & was looking forward to my visit. I called ahead Fri 04/28/23 @ 12:30 pm & spoke with co-owner John. I had several questions & he answered all of them, was through, patient & kind. That day I had a late morning appt & knew I would be arriving well after lunch hour, so I managed my expectations, knowing my food choices would be limited. I arrived around 1:30pm & was met by Lori & Kiki who were also very pleasant & great customer service. I purchased 2 Turkey sandwichs in grab & go, 1 quart Chorizo + Beef Fiesta Chili, 1 Dinner Peanut Chicken + Broccoli Pasta & 2-2 packs of Fresh Chocolate Chip Cookies. The service was quick & prices reasonable. Food Healthy & Delicious. When I arrived home we enjoyed the Turkey sandwichs with fresh herb aioli spread, lettuce, red onion & tomato on wheat & cookies, very delicious. I planned on eating the Chili & Dinner portion later, so I placed them in freezer for another day. I noticed the cardboard lid to the dinner was loose & separated from the container where the aluminum pan crimping had failed to keep it sealed. I just used a fresh freezer quart zip lock bag & that worked to store it in freezer for later use. Overall everything was great. They are open Thursday-Saturday only. On Monday's around 10:30am through Wednesday morning you may place on-line orders for pickup on Thursdays. Some of the more popular dinners can be sold out within the 1st 2 hours, so plan accordingly! If you have have not been here, I highly recommend you patronize this business who use fresh herbs & spices in their food preparations & it comes out in the flavor & quality dinners, sandwiches, wraps, soups & chili's. If you have further questions, please call ahead. If I missed anything in my descriptions or offerings, remember it was just my 1st visit. I will definitely be returning soon and highly recommend you visit this locally owned & operated business, focusing on real, healthy, delicious food. Quick & convenient service is their focus & facilities extremely clean & inviting! Thank you for your services, see you soon!

I stopped in Des Moines for a couple of days and the crew at CrossFit Akeso treated me like I'd been a member for years! Big thanks to the 5:15 am class for the hospitality. Definitely coming back next time I'm in Des Moines.
This is one of the most beautiful coffee shops Iâve ever seen! I was in Des Moines looking for a place to do some computer work and get some coffee and this is the best possible place. Very thoughtfully designed interior. I found myself transfixed
10/10 meals and customer service. Trying out Prep Kings to support the changing season of our life and what a blessing itâs been. Because of the quality fresh ingredients used you know exactly what youâre eating making them super macro friendly.
Great coffee and friendly service. The barista made my coffee with love and really tried to get to know me while I waited. You can tell how much he loves his job abs itâs so contagious! What a great way to start your day with a good cup of coffee a
Incredible tiki bar in the heart of Iowa. Good selection of traditional tiki along with some new recipes. The bartender was terrific, drinks are delicious and the atmosphere is on point. Highly recommend!
Des Moines has amazing food. Manhattan Deli is the best sandwich shop in town. Service is always fast. The Mama Mia is my favorite, but all the sandwiches are tasty.
Iâm a big fan of Des Moinesâ growing cocktail scene, and SA is a cool out-of-the-way spot thatâs not really out-of-the-way. Cozy interior, but it really shines on warm days with a large back patio. The southwest sider was a perfect gin drink fo
Tour guide gave lots of good information about the history of the building. The building itself was spectacular and beautiful. Kudos to the state of Iowas for preserving and maintaining it.
I always have a wonderful experience at Freedom Blend. One of the best spaces in Des Moines for relaxation, connecting with friends, a peaceful environment, and an affective work space to get studying and work done. The drinks are delicious as well!
