Wonderful place to visit for a few minutes or a few hours. So much to see and enjoy. Plenty of places to walk through and/or sit a spell. Recommend taking water and a snack or lunch. Also the only restroom there is a port-a-potty, so plan accordingly - but definitely make plans to visit the gardens!
Beautiful just gorgeous. Probably the only real time I have really been here. Came today with My 4+ years old daughter. We both fell in love. Lovely trees, the magical sound of the stream, the lovely bonsai garden, the community edible gardens and so much more makes this place truly magical. Love it. Want to visit more often and just enjoy this amazing space. So lucky to be here to experience this. Highly recommend to anyone at any age.
Gorgeous gardens are maintained by volunteers with true talent and care. The begonias here are jurassic in size! The Bonsai gardens have a wide range of trees with name plates, sharing their story and history. If you're lucky, you'll catch a volunteer who can share more information. There’s a sensory garden full of aromatics, too! It is a fantastic garden to visit.
This is an amazing oasis hidden next to the Lake that so many people enjoy every day.
You will find pollinator gardens, native flowers and plants, giant redwood trees and tiny bonsai trees, succulents, a water fall, wildlife, and more!
Once a year in October the Autumn Lights Festival turns the gardens into a magical light show and interactive art exhibit.
If you've never been, you owe it to yourself to check out the Lake Merritt Gardens! You won't regret it!
I visited the Bonsai Garden for a free beginners bonsai class offered by the east bay bonsai society. The instruction was excellent and lasted 2 hours. The Bonsai garden was amazing. There were some jaw-dropping bonsai.
Great place to enjoy a beautiful, and well cared garden. We went in August when the dahlias were in full bloom.
Hard pass, maybe a few flowers and trees worthy of a picture. It's free, however. 3 dollars to park. Wasn't worth the time.
Awesome experience! So many cool plants to see, my favorite was the succulent garden with the cool cactus that were flowering!
The bonsai garden is a close second though and fun time!
Be mindful of the 3pm close on the weekdays and 4pm on weekends of the gardens in general.
