The Frederick Stegmaier Mansion - Featured Reviews (39)
We stayed here on the night of our wedding. The room was gorgeous! So ornate. The Mansion is beautiful. There is a kitchenette with a Keuig Machine and someone left two beautiful muffins for us. There was fresh fruit too. It was a lovely experience!
We saw this place in a magazine and came here for a special occasion, splurging for the finest room. We were so glad we did. The B&B is lovingly restored and decorated in gorgeous Victorian style with exceptional wallpaper, beautiful paintings, and great furniture everywhere you look. We stayed in the same room as former President Carter and it was magnificent even just looking up at the ceiling. The mansion was rented out on the main floor for a wedding rehearsal dinner, so it looked stupendous.||It‘s clearly more formal than most B&Bs, so there was almost no contact with the very talented, super hard working host, Joe, but we met and talked with a very nice woman employee whose daughter had had her wedding here-lucky daughter!||Unlike every other B&B we've been to, it didn't include a hot breakfast, but they provided delicious pastries, muffins, fruit instead, delivered to our door under silver trays, plus we had a kitchenette with a small fridge, toaster, microwave, sink. There was milk and cold cereal selection. After dinner nearby we settled in for some dvd in our small, comfy den, off our bedroom. The room was quiet and comfortable for sitting in, especially with the fluffy robes.||I can say that this was the most enjoyable hotel or B&B stay we've ever had in our decades of world and domestic travel because of the sheer beauty and sense of luxury. Best of all, we didn't find it too expensive for all that was included.||This was truly a memorable experience, so treat yourself for a special occasion if you're near or passing through. Not all the rooms are as spectacular as this room, but were glad we spent the extra money this time.
There aren't words to describe the amazing atmosphere that the owner, Joe Matteo, has created in this spectacular mansion. I have been in many victorian house museums and victorian Bed and Breakfasts and this is top of the list. You feel the splendor of days gone by the moment you enter the massive front doors. Each room has been decorated and restored to reflect the opulence of victorian days in such exquisite detail. We stayed in Amelia's room and it was so magical that I thought I would never be able to go to sleep for the sheer excitement of being there, however, the bed was the most comfortable I had ever slept on and I slept like a baby. I felt like I was living a dream come true to be able to sleep in such a beautiful room and simply felt as though I had been swept away to Highclere Castle. We also had great fun exploring the town on our bicycles and the riverwalk was lovely. Although we had toured the mansion before, this was our first opportunity to spend the night and it was a night I will never forget!!
I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this bed-and-breakfast. The house is one of the most amazing houses I’ve ever been inside of and the attention to detail Is second to none. I stayed in the Amelia room which is stunning and for the price we paid it was the best deal I think I’ve ever gotten for a place to stay at the level this was. The owner and operator is on site his name is Joe and he is personable and will show you around the house. I spent hours just walking around and looking at all the antiques that are in this house. We stayed here and went to the casino and a concert for four days. I would definitely come back and recommend this place and give it five stars. I’m a tough critic and I was very very impressed with my stay here.
I'm sure this is a great place to get married or impress a business associate. The restoration is astonishing and the building is magnificent. A lot of work went into bringing this mansion back to life, including period furnishings and an abundance of art and photos on three living levels. ||We were comfortable and the owner was helpful and polite. The room was well stocked with traveler needs, including toothbrushes. However, our stay here did not include two things we count on in a B&B experience: (1) a welcoming common room to have a glass of wine and (2) a real breakfast. We might have been able to find a place to sit in the library but not the ladies' or mens' parlors. Frankly all the furnishings looked like don't-sit-on-me antiques. You wouldn't set your wine glass down on any of the tables. We had our drinks in the butler's pantry and then wandered around admiring everything as if we were in an art gallery -- look but don't touch. It was impressive, but not welcoming.||Breakfast turned out to be do-it-yourself carbs. A kitchenette in our room (no chance to mingle with other guests at a common table) held cereals, pop tarts, and fruit. The fridge was stocked with water, juice (with sugar), yogurt (with sugar), and milk. A breakfast tray was delivered to our door at the hour of our choosing (thank you), with danish, bran muffins, and bananas. We made our own coffee. Some of the creamers were turning to cheese.||I might give the place a better score if we had gone for a different reason. But the Mansion was listed as a B&B and we've stayed in better.
We went there for a tour of the mansion. We had a lovely lunch and wonderful desserts. We also sampled a couple of Stegmaier beers a great tasting IPA and a spirited Pumpkin Spice, yummy! We also sampled their chef made dark chocolate sea salt caramels. Staff was friendly and helpful. We were entertained by a barbershop quartet. The mansion's owner was friendly and knowledgeable about the mansion's history and the Stegmaier family's beer and brewery history. Very ornate inside, more like eye candy. It's also a bed and breakfast. Plan to return there in the future to stay overnight. Highly recommend. Constant Traveler
We hosted a Rehearsal Dinner for our son's wedding and our guests couldn't say enough nice things about the experience. The service is exceptional and every course - appetizers, dinner and dessert - was a culinary delight. The star of the show is the mansion itself. Victorian, genteel and elegant with period pieces and details everywhere the eye can gaze. One could remain in any of the sitting rooms for hours to take in all the small details. No detail is overlooked. This is an extraordinary experience. The Mansion is also a bed and breakfast. My son and his bride stayed there on their wedding night and he said he felt like royalty!! (As an aside, when President Carter visited the area, this is where he chose to stay!) We were so proud to have been guests of The Frederick Stegmaier Mansion.
I've tried reaching out several times as I was interested in booking the bed and breakfast next year as a place for my bridal party/me to stay. I've called twice (both left voicemails) and e-mailed twice. No response - this was over a two week span where I have tried to contact them. I'm sure the place is lovely. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like I will be using their services.

This is the best Greek food I have ever had! Definitely lives up to his name of "The Gyro King." I received a gyro with feta for $14, and a Greek salad for $11. For the amount of food, as well as the quality and freshness of the food, the price is pe
Today was our first visit to The Flaming Crab - Wilkes Barre. I was told to "not look at the prices. If I do that, I shouldn't even go." Well, I looked at the prices & still went, ordered & the food was fantastic. We weren't sure what to expect, bu
This is a beautiful roadside waterfall! It's muddy if you want to walk closer, so don't wear your best shoes, lol. There are no amenities at this spot, not even a port a potty, it's simply a small roadside pull off to view, photograph, and just enjoy
This is just a magnificent store! I don't know if it's new or recently redone, but it is absolutely gorgeous inside! The fresh food and market area really feels like you're in an open air market. Bakery items, meals, and hot foods are all made on sit
So so sooo yummy and their sushi items are fresh and flavor packed. You have to get their coconut chicken it was the best thing ever and the tempura batter was epic. The sushi pizza was also a favorite too.
Excellent all around! We've come here for years, and I recently hosted a surprise birthday party for my husband and they nailed it! The food, presentation, and ease of setting everything up was impressive. Everyone was so nice and helpful! Thank you
We've been here a couple times now and each time have had something different. This is one of the best Mexican restaurants I've been to in the 4 years I've lived around the area. The menu is versatile, their Guac is SO good and SOMEHOW holds up next
About 10 ladies in our group, dining on New Years Eve! Asparagus and crab soup was absolutely delicious! Everyone enjoyed their meal, atmosphere, each other's company, and service. No problem with the checks, either. Take note, when restaurants give
