We took our grandkids to the museum and jail as part of an outing. It was very, very popular with all of us. Both the museum and the old jail were fascinating. Our 9 year old was impressed by how tough the maximum security cells were. Great history outing!
This was our second time coming here. The gentleman at the front desk gave us a history lesson on the jail and stories involving the people who inhabited the jail and then sent us off to explore. There was so much to see from information about the women's suffrage movement, native American artifacts, murder weapons from the 1800s, artifacts from the jail, the courtyard and jail cells..and so much more. It was informative, fun, ominous at times, and just a neat part of history and Warrenton.
An AMAZING place to learn about the local history of Fauquier! All the exhibits are full of so much information, but it’s easy to read, making it accessible for any audience. Not to mention, they do other fun events like ghost tours, weddings, and they were even featured on a paranormal show! Whether you’re a local, or just visiting, this is definitely a place to cross off of your Fauquier bucket list!

This building was incredible, with so much history and some creepy spaces that gave a real feel of what jail life was like back then. The front reception gave a great brief overview of the history (everyone was exceptionally friendly, helpful and informative), then I roamed around on my own. The courtyards and extra security areas were my favorite parts. I loved this place and plan to go back again, and would highly recommend a tour (it's only a $5.00 fee) to anyone heading to Warrenton. One suggestion is that they put some information in the Visitor Center about the jail. I stopped in there and got a city map but didn't see anything on the jail unless I missed it.
