Nick was defensive as soon as I brought up the reviews of bed bugs when asking about existing reviews. He immediately refused to offer me service and cancelled my stay. After negotiating he allowed me to create a new reservation for the same price. I ended up getting charged twice. Him canceling my stay would’ve been the best decision. My stay was okay to say the least. The building is not the best, others have commented on the lounge and kitchen. The bathrooms are decent but you need to bring your own everything, including towels. The rooms are metal bunk beds with a thin mattress. The pillow was the best thing of the stay. The building had a general smell and uncomfortableness that’ll be hard to forget. Nick is a hustler and a decent one at it.

$23 for a night... it's definitely a place to sleep. Cleaning and upkeep is decent. Nothing left on the counter, ground, etc and no mess. Bunk beds are VERY rickety and sway easily. Mattress isn't that great either and I didn't get a pillow. I also saw a mouse running around. However, Nick was kind enough to get up early for me so I could check out in time for my train. I would recommend to those only looking for a place to sleep, use the bathroom and change clothes - expect anything else and you'll be disappointed.

A late evening flight before a drive the next day had me book here for one night. I'd also booked for a couple of nights next week when back in the city...and as soon as I got to my room I cancelled my next reservation. Bathrooms consistently out of toilet paper. One shower of two on my floor didn't work. Poor maintenance overall and while staff was friendly on arrival, I had to wait 15 minutes (a sign was posted) (the office opens at 9am for check out) before he came in with a coffee in hand?? I ventured out to find dinner but found myself uncomfortable in the area, as a tourist. Not particularly close to any shops or restaurants of any....value. I'd stay elsewhere.

Hopper advertised "parking available". I showed up to be told to go pay $30 for parking, after I already paid for a toll bridge to get here. That would've made it more expensive than a normal hotel! No way I was doing that! While not angry with the owner at the time, I called Hopper to explain that their services weren't as advertised to get a refund. Was just notified that from contact with the owner, Hopper was unable to refund me. Seeing reviews about how defensive the owner gets, when I certainly sensed he was angry with me, I now am upset with him for my hardships. I have included a picture of the Hopper screen, just so it's seen that "parking available" is advertised. I understand that this isn't what you tell Expedia and something was just lost between them and Hopper, but it's unacceptable for me to not be refunded over this. I am contacting my bank at this point.

I was unable to stay a this establishment due to the owner/manager's inflexibility and policies regarding check-in. I tried to explain a difficult situation I was in when it came to booking a place to stay and he wasn't having it. Furthermore, his attitude towards the situation was terrible and just kept getting worse as time went on, he threatened to call his good friends at the police station and have us arrested for trespassing on a property we had no intention on trespassing. Once I got a lawyer friend of mine involved to talk to him so thing wouldn't escalate he seem to slow down a bit, but to no avail since, once he had HIS lawyer involved, thing went on getting out of hand. I would not recommend this place to anybody and hopefully it'll be too soon before he goes out of business. Just go elsewhere.

Terrible service. I had specifically communicated with the front desk when I checked in that I would be checking out before 7am as I had a flight to catch. Multiple times, confirming this, as the sign on the desk explicitly indicated that I was to make arrangements checking out early in the morning. Come morning, nobody was available. When I called, the manager blamed me and told me that I couldn't check out, and that he wasn't responsible for what the night clerk had arranged because "she was new and you should have spoken to the manager", even though there was no way to know who the manager was. Awful and rude service.

The hostel is in a very unpleasant place full of homeless and drug addicts. The whole hostel looks dirty, the floor is sticky and smells like expired food. The beds in the rooms are very dirty, the sheets are stained and the manager says they don't change them. I booked for a week, but when I arrived the place wanted to immediately leave, he said he does not offer cancellations, what a joke. The people in there are not the best either, some where pretty unigenical, they spit in the sink, make unpleasant noises while eating etc. I found bugs on my bed, almost gave me a stroke.

TL;DR: Definitely find another place to stay. They are plenty of other hostels at a similar price in San Francisco. This one is probably the worst. I had booked a bed in a shared women dorm. I was lucky enough to me alone in my room, which was very fine - that's why I gave 3 stars for the room. The room was ok. Blankets too thin for winter even though the host gave me 3. The common room and kitchen was horribly dirty and smelled like grease. The fridge was full of unlabelled, open food and rotting vegetables. The sponge was so dirty I was reluctant to use it for washing the dishes. The pans were dirty and full of grease, not usable. There were dirty plates in the dishes quite often. There were cockroaches running in the cupboards, and no metal cuttlery- only some plastic spoons, no forks. The floor of the bathrooms where dirty. As the restrooms were inside the bathrooms, and only 1 per level, they were unavailable (occupied) quite often. The area was so dreadful, I would not take the risk to come back after night and therefore it limited my time enjoying the city after work. A lot of this may depend on unrespectful customers. I also have to say that Nick the host was very nice. But that was not enough.
