My stay at the Coachman Hotel exceeded all expectations! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted warmly by the staff who made sure our check-in was smooth and hassle-free. The location couldn't have been better - right in the heart of South Lake Tahoe, within walking distance to all the shops, restaurants, and attractions.
Our room was incredibly cozy and well-appointed, providing a perfect retreat after a day of exploring. The highlight for us was definitely the heated toilet seat - such a luxurious touch! Although we encountered a few minor issues during our stay, they were promptly taken care of by the attentive and friendly hotel staff, ensuring that our experience was seamless and enjoyable.
One of the best perks of our stay was the complimentary beach pass, allowing us easy access to the stunning Lake Tahoe shoreline just moments away from the hotel. We enjoyed lazy afternoons lounging by the lake, thanks to this thoughtful inclusion.
Overall, I can't recommend the Coachman Hotel enough for anyone visiting South Lake Tahoe. It's the perfect blend of comfort, convenience, and hospitality.
We loved our stay at The Coachman. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Really great layout which felt spacious and calm yet nice places to chill out and congregate. |The swimming pool was nice and warm (confirmed by our 8 yo) and a great place to chill out after a day exploring the lake.|We loved the free passes to the private beach by the lake and the free s’mores in the evening. |Overall we loved the town too
The Coachman Hotel offers a charming and eclectic experience just a short walk from a semi-private beach. For those who prefer to ride, numerous Lime Scooters are available. Its central location meant we rarely needed our vehicle, as everything we wanted was within walking distance. While the rooms are fairly standard, the hotel boasts a welcoming community kitchen and a well-stocked coffee and drink bar. The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, addressing any requests with ease. The reasonable prices make it a great value, and I would definitely recommend staying here or visiting again!
We loved the Coachman Hotel. The whole property is very pretty and the staff is helpful and polite. They have a nice size pool and a very chill hot tub (jets don’t work very well) the room was nice but it needs a lot more lighting, it was a little too dark for our taste and the bathroom light feels like is about to set the world on fire, not sure why. Other than the lighting the room was ok. The bar has some breakfast food and free coffee in the kitchen. Definitely want to return.
Came for a quick gals getaway!
Pros:
- Centrally located.
- Good Walkability.
- Curated reception area, super cute for a glass of wine.
Cons:
- Uncovered / overflowing trash cans everywhere — extremely unsafe for preventing bears scavenging and preserving the ecosystem.
- Staff is kind but not knowledgeable / experienced in hospitality.
- No one answers phone at front desk. Full voicemail for several weeks. And there isn’t a phone in your room either.
- Limited beach / swim towels. Staff doesn’t restock. None in room either.
- Our bathroom window/shower is visible to neighbors less than 5 feet away.
- No liquor license - beer / wine only.
- No closet for hanging / storage.
- No full length mirror.
- Bed was on the firmer side.
- TV has 3 remotes and nothing worked. Had to walk to front desk only to discover no one was available to help.
- AC didn’t work. No one answers phone to help fix 😂
Probably wouldn’t stay here again considering the other darling locally owned options nearby like Desolation Hotel!
Great location and hotel. We enjoyed drinks by the fire, swimming and sitting in the hot tub. Our dog was very welcomed, she was allowed to hang out anywhere we were. The location was close to walk to shops and restaurants but felt woodsy and quiet being a little off the main area. Room was spacious, bed comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay here!
Stayed in a beautiful newly redone 2 bedroom suite that can sleep 7. Nice new luxury touches. Includes access to the walkable private beach on the lake.
I really am hoping someone who owns the Coachman reads this because our family has loved the Coachman since we found out about it in 2019. We have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, and everything in between. We have always had a fantastic time and service until recently. In September, my husband and I stayed for our anniversary and had a variety of issues, including a missing smoke detector. Management offered little resolution except to explain that they were renovating. We chalked it up to a one off. This weekend, I took my daughters, sister in law, and niece up there for a girls weekend. Prior to our stay, I contacted the hotel 4 times to request a room in the main hotel, as we had small children with us. Nobody ever returned my call. When we arrived we had to wait an extra hour to check in and once we finally got our room, we realized we were shoved in a back corner of their newest building (which I will add should not be rented out to guests yet) while heavy construction went on. We felt a bit unsafe as the workers watched us unload our car, but the icing on the cake was thar our door did not lock. I went immediately to the front desk and was met with 2 incredibly flippant and hostile workers. She told me she called the manager, and then essentially tried to shame me saying I didn’t want a resolution and they were sold out. When I again asked for the manager, she yelled at me from across the bar that they were doing everything they could, when in fact they had done nothing. They also went off into the corner and spoke about me and the other guest who was waiting in the lobby in a derogatory way. I will also add, the gentleman waiting for the manager was also calm and kind. Nobody raised their voices or was rude, yet we were both met with hostility. Once the other guest came to complain again, the front desk attendant finally contacted the manager. She was lovely and helped us get into a different rooms and comped out first night. I hope she stays as acting manager, because again she was wonderful. All this being said, it was a stressful check in with small children in tow and we also missed our dinner reservation during the room shuffle.
Now onto the hotel, which is now quite run down compared to 2019. You can see touch up paint in the rooms that doesn’t match. You may or may not get towels when your room is cleaned. There was left over food in the fridge and freezer. The mattresses are broken down and uncomfortable and the comforters are threadbare. There is some of the original staff up there, but the newer hires truly shouldn’t be interfacing with customers. This place was truly magical for me and my family, and I think they have tried to grow too fast and have cut corners in a major way, almost to the point that the hotel feels unsafe. I hope new management can turn it around, but as of now I will not be returning. It truly makes me so so sad!
The hotel is new and beautiful. The rooms were extremely clean and well stocked, even the kitchen had everything we could potentially want! The bed was super comfortable, the heated floors in the bathroom were great.

Great experience. The hotel is well located near restaurants, supermarkets, shopping, and beaches/trails. The rooms were well remodeled and quiet. Check in was very modernized and easy, and the staff reached out the night before (and the day of) to m
We stayed in the Rubicon Room and it was lovely. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the room was wonderful and we absolutely loved the lodge, the roaring fireplace, the big beams, and the gorgeous courtyard. Well worth it!
The place is really nice, the water is crystal clear but very cold. It's worth it to pay the $5.00 fee to see this beautiful place. In the middle of it there's an old house, scary but beautiful.
The Mt. Tallac trail is an amazing trail to hike in Lake Tahoe. It isn't easy, about 4.5 miles from the trail head to the summit with about 3,300 feet of elevation gain. The second half of the trail is mostly all rock and is very steep in parts. The
Went with my daughter and husband and came from the heavenly line since the wait at the resort was 2 hours! They helped us right away and we were able to get all the equipment we needed in a reasonable time frame. The staff are super friendly and acc
Beautiful hike to Eagle Lake that took about 30 min after the bridge. This time of year there was snow and ice on the trail that made it slippery but was worth the quick trip up and back.
Took this trail to go to Cascade Falls. It's flat for the first 5 mins or so and then becomes rocky and risky at the corners.
There is some construction work going on in the area so they have put up temporary boards marking the trail. Good job!
