The Clifton is an absolute gem! This charming bed and breakfast is a haven of luxury, history, and exceptional service. From the moment you step foot onto the property, you're enveloped in a warm welcome that sets the tone for a truly pampering experience.||||The main building, dating back to 1799, lends it an enchanting ambiance that's beautifully complemented by its modern amenities. Each room is unique, making your stay feel different every time you visit. The attention to detail is evident everywhere, from the plush towels and robes to the beds adorned with heavenly soft pillows and down comforters—a dream for a relaxing retreat.||||The onsite restaurant and bar are excellent. The restaurnat is very small, seating only a a handfull of people, which means that you can actually have conversations with your friends/family without having to shout. The menu is seasonally appropriate and offeres many unique spins on familiar dishes. The bar is a great place to relax after coming home from exploring the area, with knowledgable bar tenders. ||||However, what truly sets the Clifton apart is its staff. Their genuine friendliness and welcoming demeanor create an atmosphere where you truly feel cherished and looked after. The turn-down service, Nespresso coffee, and numerous thoughtful touches elevate the experience, making you feel truly pampered.||||For those seeking a retreat to unwind and indulge, the Clifton is an oasis. Whether it's to immerse oneself in history, savor gourmet delights, or simply bask in luxury and comfort, this place offers it all. It's a sanctuary where relaxation meets refined elegance, and it's an absolute joy to experience.
First rate - enjoyable. Restaurant atmosphere, food and service were terrific. Location is beautiful country setting. Highly recommend for a get away. Perfect place to stay if visiting Monticello from out of town or visiting Charlottesville. Property is beautiful.
My wife and I like to break up the drive between northern NJ and the Carolinas, both going and returning, when we travel south for a beach vacation and/or to visit with the extended family. We have stayed at over a half dozen small luxury Inns in Virginia over the past 15-20 years. For this latest trip we had made a room and dinner reservation at The Clifton far in advance of our post-Christmas drive north from Chapel Hill, NC. I am very pleased to say that both my wife and I were most impressed and pleased with what we discovered here and had a most enjoyable short visit. Even in late December, walking around the grounds of the property was most impressive. We spent one night at The Clifton, staying in the sumptuous Martha Jefferson Room in the Manor House. We especially appreciated the Nespresso machine in our room for our early morning coffee, as well as the large and well-appointed bathroom. We were impressed with the selection of creative cocktails and intelligent conversation with their bartender at their intimate Copper Bar before having a most delicious and excellently prepared and presented dinner at their 1799 restaurant. The next morning, we had a very satisfying and filling breakfast on their enclosed veranda, before embarking on the second half of our drive back north to our home. Everyone we encountered at The Clifton was most gracious, helpful, and accommodating. For those who want a special overnight stay at a historic home that has been transformed into a romantic and peaceful Inn with an excellent dining restaurant, we can and do highly recommend The Clifton.
I chose The Clifton for an extended 11 day stay and could not be happier with my choice and experience. The Inn itself is a charming, historic building that includes an excellent restaurant and lovely informal bar. I elected to stay in one of the "Livery Stables" and can highly recommend the room called "Keswick". These rooms are away from the main Inn and are akin to small, rustic apartments sans kitchen. The vibe is country cottage, with comfortable bed and sizable bathroom (Keswick) including shower and bath. ||The property dates back a couple hundred years so of course the buildings show that age but for me, that's part of the charm. I noted some comments regarding some of the fixtures and fittings being past their use by date but if you chose to stay in a property that is as old as The Clifton maybe that's to be expected. Having said that, everything in my room worked perfectly.||The GM Phylis, and Manager Ann were extremely warm and hospitable - as were the lovely housekeepers, barman and the wait staff.||I will be returning to Charlottesville in Spring and will definitely be booking into the Clifton for that stay. I'm sure it is even more appealing when the foliage is in bloom.
We needed a little staycation for our anniversary between lots of Christmas events we couldn’t miss. So my husband surprised me with a night at the Clifton.
The carriage house was lovely! They arranged to have a gorgeous flower bouquet in the room along with some tasty treats.
Linens and toiletries are high quality.
The bartender rustled up some late night snacks for us after a concert.
Breakfast was delicious as well. All in all, it was a lovely experience!
We headed to Charlottesville for my birthday weekend. Our weekend started out a bit Rocky at the Clifton. However, due to the professionalism of Maggie the manager and a great server at dinner one night Ethan, everything was straightened out and a recovery well deserving of this lovely inn was created. Our room the merrie weather was great. We will be back.
Everything is perfect as usual from check in to check out. This was probably my 9 or 10 time staying here. I like the place snd make sure when in state side to make time to visit Charlottesville and the clifton. I had breakfast and dinner at facility. Big thanks to Ann, Emely, Corry, missed chris this time. Stayed at the honeymoon suite very nice and cozy. I recommend for all solo, couples, or family.
The Clifton Inn is all it says it is on the website. My wife and I lucked out with fantastic warm weather in January. There seemed to be many couples staying at the Inn the same night. That made for a romantic setting. Perfect!

When we go to stay for a night away, the details are everything, and the Inn at Court Square has absolutely nailed the details! The owners both greeted us and were so welcoming and accommodating. We were a little late for check in, but they still too
