I have been to the St Paul one once, but today was my first time trying the Northeast one. This space is bigger and more open, but lacks a bit of the charm. I experienced terrific service, including expedited cinnamon roll preparation which meant we got to eat it immediately upon seating. The coffee was hot and fresh. I got the salmon with root veggies and squash because I mixed up the name of the dish with the walleye one I really wanted. I noticed after ordering, but thought if the buttered tin can live up to their reputation it won't be a problem. Folks, it was a real delight and I don't even care much for salmon. Can't wait to go back and successfully order the walleye

Fantastic food in a lively happy place. Portions are way too big, so know you have leftovers or order just one meal and split it. Great flavors, good variety and amazing sweets too. A must if you live in Minnesota!

Delicious and efficient! The buttered tin had several gluten free options and unique menu items. I loved the laid back atmosphere and the person taking our order was very knowledgeable about their menu and the specials for the day. Will definitely be going back!

Update: I went in today 11/12 and see they took the QR codes off the tables maybe permanently or just today? It was my favorite part of this resturaunt how innovative they were to have these codes so you didn't have to go up and wait in line all over again or even leave your table if you needed more drinks or anything. But I figured out today that you could just pace an online order like if you were picking it up and put a note on what table you are at and seemed to work well instead but those codes were genius and not sure why there weren't there today. My Favorite Breakfast spot to go to!

I went to the Buttered Tin with my friend on a Saturday morning around 10:30. It was busy, but we didn't have to wait for a table. The open concept room led to it being a little loud to chat easily. The food was delicious. I ordered the smothered burrito and an iced vanilla latte. The burrito was flavorful and hot. The latte had a nice combination of coffee flavor and sweetness. My friend got the grain belt breakfast and said it was just fine. I would say the food was a little pricy, and the staff were a bit busy to help with getting hot sauce, grabbing a box, or clearing the dishes, but we were able to get help by asking at the front counter. The staff we interacted with were friendly and quick to help when we asked. Overall, I would go back if I was meeting a friend in the area.

Personally found this place to be decent and nothing too special & a bit overpriced. The food did taste really healthy but after a good 15 minutes of eating, my partner and I ended up grabbing it to go because it was too heavy. Overall, it’s not a bad place but it’s just not for me.

Came for brunch because we had a gift card from a friend. I ordered the Damn Good egg sandwich and my wife ordered the Biscuts and gravy. The sausage and gravy were good. The Egg sandwich was only ok. Disappointing for the cost. We also bought some lemonade that was too strong. The experience and atmosphere was ok. Overall it was a decent experience but the price is too high and the portion size could be a little better. Unsure if I would return.

After reviewing some of what others have said, I have determined that this establishment is doing the right thing by implementing a 20% surcharge for livable wages instead of raising their food prices because it offers transparency about what that 20% is added to, which is a cause that I fully support, and makes me want to willingly contribute more, instead of increasing my expectations on the food quality due to increased prices. With that said, I have to make it clear that they indeed have amazing food! I have been here a total of 3 times, and each time it did not disappoint. First of all, even with the surcharge, most of the items are still under $20 and therefore affordable, on top of them providing a good amount of food on each plate. Second, quality-wise, I would highly suggest the damn good egg sandwich, the huevos rancheros benedict, the cinnamon rolls, the biscuits & gravy, and the pierogis, eggs & sausage. All of them have the perfect combination of food that allows you to say that you have gotten a little bit of everything! If I have one piece of constructive advice, it would be to offer a bit more variety in the salads that are offered with some of the plates. This is not a piece of advice I have for this establishment per se, as a lot of other restaurants do the same. I think adding some beets or cherry tomatoes along with the single kind of leafy greens would elevate the side house salad even more. While I wouldn't put this place as a breakfast / brunch spot better than others, I will say that this place is definitely one of the great breakfast spots in the city. The food is served in a speedy manner, and the atmosphere is very modest in a self-serve type of manner, although they also allow you to order at the counter. It is the perfect spot to have a good time with a friend catching up while indulging in some good breakfast, all the while not having to worry about looking out of place.
