This was a unique boutique hotel and far exceeded our expectations. Parking was right in front and cheaper than any other hotel we considered. The room was not necessarily spacious but had enough space for our needs. The king bed was very comfortable, and the room was immaculate. I did not expect there to be someone on staff 24 hours so that was a pleasant surprise. The main lobby has a small cafe (opens at 9), our hotel desk, a Hop-On-Hop-Off ticket person, and a gift shop in addition to a small museum. It is extremely safe as you need your key to use the elevator, and then once off the elevator you need your key to go through a security door to enter the hallway. We never heard any noise during our stay. We did opt for a room with a window and although there was no special view, it was nice to let the sun in. We were on the 3rd floor. Mr Robertson at the front desk went above and beyond to welcome us. You are kitty-corner from a police station and a short walk to Bourbon Street. We ended up using the Hop-On-Hop-Off bus for a tour of the city since they were right there. Although you sacrifice a typical large hotel lobby, there is really no reason to linger at your hotel in a city like New Orleans!
This is the cutest hotel. Our room was a lot bigger than we initially thought it would be. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We had an issue with our TV the first night. We had plans to explore during the day and then go to dinner at night. They were able to work on the tv and have it fixed before we got back for the night. I would definitely come back and stay here.
Probably one of the best places we've stayed in! Our room, #208, was huge and the view out one set of windows looked at St Louis Cemetery #1. It was awesome! Super clean room and staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Location was perfect! Used Curb app for cabs which was about 0.3-0.5 miles away from downtown which only cost about $5-7. Simple!
This hotel is perfect! Love the location. Close enough to everything, far enough away that it is quiet and cozy. The staff is helpful & friendly. Mr. Gregory was the magical touch to this Beautiful hotel. He is super friendly and so very helpful. All of the staff was great but he went out of his way to offer dining suggestions and helpful hints on so many other things. I loved the history of the hotel and the city that he was so willing to share with enthusiasm and love.
Beautiful hotel with huge rooms and bathrooms. We felt very safe and secure in this location. Someone was at the front desk 24 hours a day and you can't access the building at night without a key card. Also, no elevator access without a key card. Our windows (3rd floor) looked out on St. Louis Cemetery #1. The view was just breathtaking. We never heard any street noise or noise from the hallway or other rooms. It is right behind the French Quarter and close to the CBD. Walking distance to a ton of things. Nice little coffee shop two blocks up Basin St. Hop on Hop off bus tickets are available in the lobby and the bus stops right out front. During the day, aside from the front desk agent, there are always several other employees in the lobby to help you with any questions, etc.|Gregory at the front desk was awesome, as was everyone else that worked there. Have already recommended to friends and co-workers. I go to New Orleans two or three times a year, and this hotel is one of the best I have stayed in. Stay here. You will not regret it. I cannot think of one negative thing about my experience. Thanks to everyone at the Brakeman!
Recently converted to a boutique hotel, this place is the greatest. We look for price, location, location, parking. It is within walking distance of just about anywhere in the French Quarter. We just let our car sit most of the time. And no Valet Parking, park in the lot right beside the hotel for $20 a day and you can come and go as you wish. Believe me this is a real bargain. And the hotel itself is very reasonably priced especially for such large and luxurious rooms. You feel so safe here, but if you really want to feel sketchy about your surroundings, its only a few minutes walk to Bourbon Street. We walked from here to the Ghost Tour, the Jazz Preservation Hall, The Riverboat Ride, The Gray Line tours, the Cooking Demonstration, and several other trips just to see different things. I don't want to talk this place up too much, because I might want to come again and I don't want to be responsible for it going way up in price, like it should.

If you want to be close to the French Quarter but not right in the chaos, this is a great choice. It is quiet and quaint. Very clean room. Parking is right outside the building ($20 a day). Nice stay.

I cannot give this venue high enough praise. The venue is absolutely stunning and you can tell the owners care a lot about making it a great space. The staff was accommodating, helpful, gracious, and friendly.
The executive king room is amazing, like having our own apartment right in the heart of the French quarter. Very clean. Great hotel staff. Easy to walk everywhere. My only complaints would be the water pressure is non-existent, but I imagine with old

This was one of my favorite museums during my visit. I learned so much. Didn't know about the free People of Color in Louisiana. Imagine if they had been allowed to thrive... how different America would be today.
Of all the trees in City Park the McDonough Oak is likely the oldest and the most majestic. The huge branches have sagged to the ground under their own weight and over time. This tree stood in an ancient forest on this spot long before Europeans arri
