My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful tour from Anne Spencer's granddaughter. The stories she shared of visiting her grandmother, the Harlem renaissance poet and civil rights activist, and playing in the gardens brought back sweet memories of visiting my own grandmother and playing on her front porch. The house, located in a historic neighborhood, is almost completely intact with the original furniture, family photos and notes tacked up on the kitchen cabinet. The garden is peaceful, shady and enclosed in a way that allows you to lose the sense of being on a city lot. You need to make an appointment to tour the house but the gardens are open to the public.
Loved this little gem in the rough. Super cute and wonderful history goes with it. Beautiful for photoshoots. Area seems sketchy but no issues Whatsoever.
Lynchburg VA's Poet Anne Spencers Home is beautiful and features a wonderful garden planted by her and her husband. Very calming I grew up in Lynchburg so this makes me very proud.
Went to the gardens which were free to walk through. I can imagine its beauty when flowers were in bloom.
Went to visit, and it was a great visit with Ms. Anne Spencer's granddaughter.
Wonderful tour!
Really interesting Harlem Renaissance history in little Lynchburg Virginia.
My mother and I visited this home and garden today and enjoyed learning about Anne Spencer and her involvement in the Harlem Renaissance and the dedication of her whole family to improving the lives of African Americans. This place is truly a gem of Lynchburg and an absolute must see! You will get a personal tour from Anne Spencer's beautiful granddaughter who has tirelessly worked to restore the property and to preserve her grandmother's legacy. I will highly recommend it to family and friends. You won't be disappointed!

What a great duo! We really enjoyed the food and the lovely couple who run the place. Whatâs more, the menu presents something quite unique, a choice between Mediterranean and Indian food, which both were wonderfully made! And the mango lhasi is i
