Taverna Berrocal - Restaurant in Ocala - 2515 NE 3rd St, USA

I’ve dined at this location at least 2-3 dozen times. I remember showing up hoping to eat at what was Sabores Latinos and disappointed that place was gone, but I was quickly won over. This place is great and it has gotten significantly better over time. At first, there were missed or incorrect orders but I haven’t had that happen in a long time. Orders used to take a much longer time. They still take longer than other places but it is reasonable for what you get. It’s not fast food. It’s a fantastic dining experience where everything is made to order. The chef is a real pro. Everything is top notch as far as quality and freshness. Plating is beautiful. It’s has been fun to watch this place evolve and grow. The addition of pizza was an amazing surprise. I did not think a Peruvian restaurant would/could serve great pizza but was proven wrong. The pizzas are top tier. I had never tried fried pizza before but it was awesome. The Americana is still the king(new York style pepperoni pizza with a perfect crust). One always has to judge a Peruvian restaurant by its papa a la huancaina. This place did not disappoint with that beautiful sauce. The fried rice(chaufa) is always cooked and seasoned beautifully. The lomo saltado is the best I’ve tried including NYC and Orlando locations. I enjoyed the ceviche the one time I had it. The calamari and jalea mixta are to die for (definitely the only way I’ve gotten my kids to eat fish). Too bad the pescado chicharrón is gone. The tallarín verde is great. I really wish they did the green rice and chicken (maybe one day). I hope the pescado alo macho makes a comeback. Ají de gallina and escabeche are probably my favorites off the current menu. The soups are hearty and well seasoned. The alfajores weren’t my favorite but that’s likely because they’re different than what I’m used to(these are more chewy whereas I’m use to the flaky kind). The chocolate cake was dense and chocolaty without being too sweet. The tres leches was less like the typical yellow cake and more of a pound cake or scone but stellar. The fried ice cream was AWESOME. I’m use to the Japanese style. This was more like an ice cream beignet and so much better. I had the tiramisu today and enjoyed it. The wine selection is impressive for the small location. It’s a weird reference but I feel like this is the Led Zeppelin of restaurants. The songs remain the same but don’t always sound exactly the same. I’m a fan of those surprises and it shows the passion of the chef. Not everything on the menu is always available, but I suspect it’s to maintain the highest standard of freshness that I’ve come to expect. Nicole is an amazing server and very attentive. The music and ambience is soothing and welcoming. This place deserves a lot more love from Ocala.

Everything we ordered was delicious. The fried calamari with the dipping sauce, the Italian fries with the dipping sauce, the chicken soup was all natural & full of veggies and flavor. (I swear my immune system got a pick me up) and the sausage and mushroom pizza was different but good. 😊

My family and I stumbled upon this restaurant while waiting for my daughters dance class to wrap up. Its a cozy little corner restaurant with a very clean and friendly atmosphere. I am so happy we tried it! The aroma emitting from the kitchen was enough to have my mouth watering before I even sat down. The server was so friendly and knowledgeable. We had a million questions about the menu and she was more than happy to explain everything. The food was AMAZING!!!! The steak just melted in your mouth, all of the ingredients were fresh and cooked to perfection. Everyone at the table ordered a different dish and none of us could choose a favorite, it was all so delicious. The Chef has definitely got it going on. We will 100% be back again and would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting to try something new.

Today was our very first time trying this restaurant and I wish I would of found it sooner as my wife and I both agree we found a new favorite restaurant. Enjoyed a great Sunday brunch, which by choice choose a fixed 4 course meal for $25 and we can’t say enough about the amazing favors and the presentation of each dish. The service was top notch, and by the third course we were stuffed but not enough to at least sample the dessert and then took the rest to go. The service and but mostly the food left us wanting to come back and try more items on the full dinner menu as everything we had was delectable. Highly recommend giving this place a try and support a great small business.

This food was incredible, and is sincerely one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Our server Wendy was attentive and very pleasant, while Chef Juan Berrocal executed the dishes to perfection. Everything was beyond our expectations, and I will be back for sure, and would highly recommend trying this restaurant if you haven't done so already!

I cannot express how fabulous this restaurant is. This is a Peruvian experience that is an incredibly quaint and social experience. The Chef/Owner came out to make sure that we were happy with the food. Karrin, who was our server was so friendly and an incredible addition to the staff. The Food is outstanding and I can't express enough what you are missing if you don't immerse yourself in the food, the wine and music from the Owners own Father. I hope to reach those that are looking to experience a unique and amazing experience with food that is not your every day run of the mill Restaurant

Great food and very well displayed! Enjoyed the Chisaya Mama (fish plate) and it was very tender, buttery and delicious. Hubby enjoyed the Lomo Saltado. The flavors just bursted with goodness! Then we enjoyed Tiramisu made from scratch and also homemade brownies with Ice cream. So good! You definitely must check this place out!

Came and enjoyed a nice, quiet dinner for 2. We made reservations on Google, but there were enough tables for walkins tonight (but only 8 tables inside). Cuisine was Peruvian, French, Italian. The highlights of the meal were the Octopus olivo and the Chimichurri skirt steak. Wait staff were pleasant and attentive. We hope to return and try some different items on the menu.
