We did backpack camping here at tar hollow and had an absolute blast. There are plenty of trails to hike and a lot of nature to see! They have 5 tent sites available in the fire tower area! You do have to go to the general store to reserve them and they are first come first serve but it's only $4/per person. You can park and hike to the fire tower or drive right up to the fire tower and explore after setting up, like we did! Highly recommend this spot specifically for the back camping but they have some good regular camp sites too!
Underrated park! Hiking trails, camping, camp store, rustic miniature golf, small lake for swimming, canoe/kayaks.
Tar hollow means so much to my family and me. It is a beautiful plot of land with great facilities and amenities for all ages. Some of the best aspects of Tar Hollow are the simplest. Walking through the woods, finding small creatures, sitting by campfires. This would be a perfect place to start some new family traditions.
I love riding in Tar Hollow State Forest! Getting there is a pleasant 1-hour ride from Groveport, Ohio. Once there, whether green in spring and summer, golden in the fall, or barren in winter, the forest is a place of beauty and solitude. I ride within the park and some skirting roads for hours. I may be on pavement, gravel, or minor off-road completely. There are plenty of places to stop for a coffee, snack, or natural break. I have found this place is far less travelled than Hocking and this makes the enjoyment even better. Thank you Ohio, for keeping this place wild enough, accessible and one of my favorite places.
Tar Hollow is a dense forest with amazing views and wildlife. Plan your route before heading out on the Logan or Buckeye Trail. Pay attention to the trail blazes too. The trail along the Logan and Buckeye Trails can be challenging. The trail is narrow and overgrown in some areas with several inclines, downed trees, and thorns. Bug spray is a must! Remember your water and take out with you what you brought in. I didn't camp here, but the campground is really nice. Lots of room and activities available for everyone, including a miniature golf area and an outdoor movie theater.
Tar Hollow is AMAZING! Beautiful, refreshing and a great place to go and clear your mind or relieve stress. There's primitive camping, small cabins for rent, walking trails, fishing, canoe/kayak rentals, putt putt golf, (lake) swimming area with beach, nature center, general store and much more!
Modern campsites... hot showers, camp store with firewood for sale. Close to Old Man's Cave and Ash Cave
Stayed at tar hollow campground, big area with camp sites, we stayed in 96 and 97 with a tiny camper. Well worth the visit and the staff was super friendly.
Our family had a wonderful stay at Rush Resort. The location was close to hiking trails and the house was spacious for all 19 of us. The theater room was a favorite for sure. Thank you for a memorable time in a beautiful cabin.
This was my first visit to this restaurant in Laurelville, OH. This location was quaint with a great homey and comfortable atmosphere. The Philly Cheese steak and fried were excellent. Wings with BBQ were great, and so were the homemade green bea
Beautiful vintage diner! Stopped here on our way back from Hocking Hills and it was a lovely experience. Very friendly staff, classic diner atmosphere, delicious traditional American fare, and very reasonable prices :)
