Taqueria San Jose - Mexican restaurant in Waterford Twp - 4550 Elizabeth Lake Rd, USA

I had passed this place a few times in the past and found myself in the area so I called and was greeted in Spanish! Authentic, check. And they were open for dine in, yes! When I get there I was floored by the decor. If it weren't for COVID-19 I would definitely set up a dinner date party with friends here. Aside from the bright and cheerful setting, it was good to see the place following social distance guidelines. So let me tell you how pleasantly surprised I was that they have the "fun meats" available that I like to eat. I usually go to SW Detroit, where there's is a large Latin community, to order Tamarindo de agua (tamarind-aide), lengua (beef tongue) and tripas (beef tripe) tacos, and menudo (beef tripe) soup. I was SO HAPPY that I could place this order here as well. And, yes, I ate all of it. 😁 Delicious 😋. I even ordered another taco dinner to go to bring to my hubs- carne asada (marinated beef) and al pastor (marinated pork), we'll see later how much he likes it. Oh, and while eating my meal I noticed a steady stream of Latin folks come through. It's assuring to see this place is supported by the community. I almost forgot I wasn't in SW Detroit! I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area... I might even bring my laptop too since I saw an outlet next to the booth in the back. 🤓 Update: my hubs liked his take out and wants try this place out in person, so I can't wait to come here again.

I placed a carryout order and I didn't get the sour cream I paid for nor did I get the salsa that was supposed to come with my meal They also need to update their system with Grubhub, I ordered a #3 combo which on the website is 2 tacos and a tostada, I ended up with 2 tacos and a burrito

I wish I took pics. Rice beans and horchata - definitely homemade! I’m really picky about Mexican food. The red salsa could have been better but this place was beautiful, clean, and great service. My ceviche plate was chilled and the taco meat (carne asada and Al pastor) was not dry at all. The shrimp was super clean and fresh. I am very impressed!

[please "like" if this is helpful] This humble taqueria is delightful. Full menu; full bar; large enough to host a big crowd. A magnet for locals that crave Mexican American soul food. The servers were lovely and encouraging for me to practice my Spanish, and were of course flexible to switch to English. Not expensive; good quality; clean; friendly; fresh guacamole, traditional festive music. Often have a soccer game on the TV (sound off).

The atmosphere is very quiet & peaceful. We have driven past too many times & never stopped! Well STOP in for Dinner or lunch food is FANTASTIC! They sell rice water & hibiscus 🌺 delicious. We got bottles of Mexican Coke it was ice cold. Best secret in Waterford,MI

1st off might want to call before going, hours are different because of Covid. Good food. Love the decor. Lots of menu choices.

Stop in for dinner and service was great! Food as always was amazing. Took home some tamales & rum cake. This place is are go to for mexican food. Luv it 😍

I’m not much of a review person but this one absolutely deserved it. Me and my husband went to San Jose with my mother and father for a Mother’s Day dinner together. Our waiter took our drink order, and food order, and once the drinks were dropped off we were not checked on once and had to flag down 3 different wait staff to get some chips and salsa for the table and refills on some water. This was after 35-40 minutes. A different waiter finally brought out our food, which had been sitting under a heat lamp- the bottom was cold and the top was hot- and after another 10 minutes our original waiter came to check and see if everything was okay, but did not offer to get any drink refills or anything. The food was 1/10. By far the worst food I’ve ever had. The only thing that gave it flavor was the enchilada sauce. My dads steak was like shoe leather, my husbands quesadillas were soggy and bland, and my moms veggie tacos were bland as well. My mom and dad frequent here quite a bit but it was mine and my husbands first time. I truly hope they get better, but I will not be dining here again. Over all horrible service.
