Absolutely loved this campground! The views were amazing! Easy access to everything in Custer State Park. Host on site and very helpful. The restrooms were very clean. My 25' trailer fit perfectly in spot #3. I would highly recommend this state park campground in the beautiful Custer State Park.
The location can’t be beat! There is a walking trail that leads to Sylvan Lake and I always see deer on the trail. The bathroom is clean and I love having. The private, separate shower rooms!
There are mixed sites here. Some sites are very close together and out in the open, others are a little more tucked away for privacy and then there’s the really cool walk in campsites!
We always try to stay here a couple of nights when visiting the area.

First of all, the location is great but can get very busy and hard to find parking so be prepared to walk. We wanted to come here to have a picnic, walk the trail and take in the views. The only thing we got to do was have a 10 minute picnic as it rained and caused everyone to basically run to their cars to wait it out and or leave. We chose to leave since we didn't know how long it was going to last and we were tired anyways. Still wished we could have walked the trails and around the lake. Seems like a beautiful area. Work checking out if your in the area.
Resort, campground, swimming beach, fishing, combined with a majestic beauty rarely seen. Study the history so you will know why this is a truly magical place.
Hard to beat Sylvan Lake Campground when exploring Custer State Park in the Black Hills. Perfect location with friendly hosts and well maintained amenities just across the road from beautiful Lake Sylvan. Sylvan Lake was created when Theodore Reder built a dam across Sunday Gulch Creek in 1882 and offers wonderful picnic areas, rock climbing, hiking trails, small boat rental, and beautiful rocky vistas. Also a great base camp to explore Black Elk Peak and The Needles. Check it out!
I've been to the blackhills several times, first time honey moon with my wife and when I saw Sylvan lake, I knew we had to come back and to camp and hike. This campground is truly well run. The host Cheryl and Dave was very friendly and helpful. We stayed at tent size number 28. Was very glad we can park our car off road. Shower and bathrooms very clean and well maintained. Maybe they can fix the shower leak and add another bench inside the shower, that would have been tremendous. Definitely will come back again!
Camp hosts are great, very clean bathrooms and showers. Close hike to the lake and amazing views.
We loved staying here! We stayed on site 21 which was very isolated and definitely worth the extra effort of lugging your gear up hill if you're able. There are carts and wheelbarrows near the parking lot to make it a little easier. The view was spectacular!
We stayed at Stockade Lake North in our truck tent on a site with no electric hookup. There was plenty of space at our site to feel private, despite the campground being almost completely occupied. We also had a picnic table and fire pit (the hosts t
This is by far the most awe-inspiring trail I have ever done. The views of the surrounding area and the rock formations are breathtaking. The photos can't truly capture the beauty here.
The trail was a bit more difficult than we expected. A couple
This is an amazing local gem. The food was beautifully delicious and the staff were all delightful. I loved my breakfast salad, and the rice pudding was...breathtaking.
Make sure to make a reservation so you don't have to wait, and then enjoy. Hjem w
This is our second time coming and is hands down best combination of culinary, dining, and service experience weâve had in the Black Hills so far. This is a high standard to beat as we tend to be foodies. Our meal was impeccable. My husband and I b
I drove an hour with my kids just to eat here and as usual it didn't disappoint! Excellent food! Very busy, which was expected. Staff worked quickly to get people seated and orders in for those of us waiting by the door. This made the wait short! We
We had a great experience at Custer. There were hundreds of bison and we were able to watch several bulls testing each other. It was an awe inspiring moment. We saw a coyote, a handful of whitetail deer, wild donkeys (including a baby) and literally
Quite possibly the best Reuben sandwich I have ever tastedâ¦and I order one whenever I eat out, if it is on the menu! Definitely stop by when in town. Nice people, great eats and a clean space.
We stopped based on a local friends recommendation. Miner's cup did not disappoint. The kids love their hot chocolates. I was happy to see an Iced Caramel Macchiato on their menu. The 20 oz comes with 3 shots, which is standard. I'm used to quads.
I really appreciate that they mark gluten free items on the menu and accommodate people with celiac disease.
You can order on the screen in the entry room or at the counter. Cute Cafe, and efficient service. I enjoyed the gf crustless quiche.

Very cool place. Loved all the history and info. Very nice staff and building. Be sure to get a tour. A plus on the tour guild. Had a blast. Very fun. Looking forward to next time
Stopped for lunch on our way through the park. Atmosphere was great, service great, and the food was perfect! Such a wonderful place, wish we could have spent more time. Would definitely recommend!
