Sven's Basecamp Hostel - Backpacker Hostel in Fairbanks - 3505 Davis Rd, USA

What an amazing place with some super amazing people. Truly a place for travelers and those seeking adventure. The staff is a great group of adventurous souls from all over. Highly recommend Sven's even if you're just passing through. Great tent spots, camping tents and incredible looking treehouse. Cannot say enough about how Great the staff is.

Sven's is an absolute gem. I'm not typically a hostel guy but needed a room and location was perfect for where I was going. Got my own cabin. Super clean, super well kept, great staff all around. Thank you, Sven's, for a great night.

Tried a hostel as hotel prices were $300 per night in Fairbanks. It was a worthwhile experience. At first disconcerting, you park your car by a relatively busy roadway and have to use a wagon to haul your luggage to your tented platform room. The rooms are like field geology camps I stayed in Indonesia. The room is just a room with a big bed a small table and some bunks. 2 desk lamps for light. I had to hunt under the mattress for the power outlet. Plank floor , you can latch the door but there is no key. There is a common kitchen and dining area and unisex toilets. Yet the beds was super comfortable and warm even though the night was cool. Getting up-to use the bathroom is annoying but bring a flashlight is solves this. You do meet an interesting mix of adventurous people, I met Miles from Napier New Zealand who rode up on a trail bike from Oregon and Melvin from Costa Rica who rode up from Costa Rica on his BMW. Fairbanks must have a population of boy racers as the sound of high reving 4 cylinder engined sliced the night to the early hours. Would stay again not for those expecting all comforts of home. Good hosts.

Showers are ¢25 a minute, and you can’t control the temperature, plus it’s just a drizzle. You’d be better off using a warm water bottle with a hole in it - than this shower. The ‘tent’ camping sites are full of roots, and not cleared for such purpose. The kitchen has the largest rats I’ve ever seen in Alaska, they come out while the lights are on and you’re cooking. Someone needs to make a complaint to the health inspector ASAP. Worst hostel I’ve ever encountered. Stayed here once 3.5 weeks ago… and none of the problems seem to be addressed.

Best hostel I have ever been at! The installations are all very clean and usable, and the kitchen has everything you need to cook your best meals The outdoor is amazing and cozy, and makes you want to hang out around a fire or an outdoor game with your new met friends The best part of it is the staff who is friendly and welcoming You feel at home!

Sven’s is a absolutely delightful place to stay. The grounds are lovely. The kitchen and bathrooms are clean and the price is right. We always meet the most interesting people from around the world. Why rent a hotel room when you can enjoy a camp fire, hammock and spacious kitchen.

Had a fantastic experience! All the employees were extremely helpful and it was located right next to the airport. Great place to stay for last-minute stays, Alaska travelers, and seasonal workers. Can't wait to come back!

Love Svens Hostel. I stay there every time I go through Fairbanks. It seems like every year or two they have added a new project or done some modification to the grounds to improve overall guest experience. The grounds are quite large, and he has all sorts of different styles of rooms to choose from. My girlfriend and I stayed in the large treehouse this last time and it was cool and unique. A swinging bridge over to your own heated/electric treehouse with a King bed in it at a decent price!? Where else are you going to find that?
