Whoa, Susan B. Anthony was even more of a badass than I originally thought! I always try to visit museums dedicated to women when I can (there aren't that many, after all!), but I really loved my experience touring this museum. Our guide was so knowledgeable, but presented our tour in an approachable and entertaining way. Don't hesitate to book this tour when you're in Rochester!
A small, guided tour is very informative and shows many rooms in Susan B. Anthony's final residence where many of her historical accomplishments occurred.
The tour takes roughly 45 minutes and costs $15 for adults, but there are discounts for seniors, students, and military. There are plenty of original articles from Susan in the house. Photos are also welcomed. Next door, there is a small gift shop and parking lot. This home was also part of Susan's family.
This was such a fun and informative tour!!! Our guide was really knowledgeable and was very friendly and open to questions.
My history class from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) visited this location as part of our week-long journey through the history of 19th century social activism in Central New York, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here! When it comes to the history of the women’s suffrage movement, most people where I’m from stop learning at Susan B. Anthony, and that is a shame! She’s one of the most well-known names of the movement, but if you think you won’t walk away from this museum with a much larger understanding of her influence and legacy, then you are mistaken, friend. Our tour guide, Allison, provided us with several gems of knowledge pertaining to Susan’s work, her family, and the activists that worked alongside her. The home is stunningly well-preserved, and you will love the stories that it has to tell. On behalf of UTSA, thank you for having us, Susan B. home, and thank you again to Allison for guiding us.
Knowledgeable, entertaining, and great fun. Learned a lot! Anthony, her peers, and her family were forces of nature
It has now been 100 years since the 19th amendment was ratified granting women the right to vote.
While we celebrate these outstanding leaders in the women’s rights movement, it is important to recognize the many barriers like the poll tax, white primaries, inaccessibility of polls and other subtle (and not so subtle) restrictions remained, stifling a free, democratic vote for ALL people. This museum does a wonderful job in retelling her history without sanitizing it.
To honor the legacy of these great women who fought for our rights we must always do 2 things: Vote and speak up when someone’s right to vote is being restricted.
Thank you for preserving her home and educating visitors on her journey.
A lot things I did not know about her , things to do in Rochester, the go see her grave and see grave of feredtick douglas
We didn’t have time to go through her house, but the museum is nice. I am giving it 3 stars because of the information and the lovely gift shop. You can tell they work hard to maintain the two house. What I am disappointed about is Susan B. Anthony is the reason for the 19th amendment giving any person of any gender the right to vote and her museum is one small room with parts of the exhibit extremely worn out and faded. This could easily be 4 to 5 rooms large just laying out the influence she had as well as the others who she worked with. This story is SO big and the credit here not on par. It is a start though!
