Surf and Sand Fernandina Beach at Amelia Island, Ascend Hotel Collection - Featured Reviews (563)
Manager Richard was wonderful. He was very prompt and attentive to our needs. I had good night sleep. The Salt Life restaurant is few steps away. Jax Beach is few yards away. Will recommend this Hotel to friends and colleagues for sure. Greatest value for the money
Decent spot overall. Upon check in there were a couple of items leftover from previous guests. (Gatorade bottle in fridge, dirty rag in bathroom.) Comfortable bed, quiet. We enjoyed the free bike rentals. As mentioned in a previous review, the property now charges for parking. Which for some like myself was a surprise when checking in considering conditions before the transition were free parking. I did not dispute at check in as I took into consideration the new ownership. There was a man loitering in the pool area, outing his cigarettes in the pool who we discovered was not a guest shortly after when he was arrested nearby for loitering. Something to consider keeping an eye on -- hopefully a one off ..(pool area-for possible trespassing) The location is great for the beach & Ft. Clinch. Staff are friendly and accommodating. I would return and recommend.
Upon entering the room when we arrived, there was a piece of candy (?) on the floor by the door and a stain on one of the bedspreads. The bed with the stained bedspread looked like it was sloped so that all the blood would rush to your head. (We obviously didn't try that bed because of the stain.) Air conditioner was the loudest that I've ever heard in a hotel. Pool was good for cooling off but too small to enjoy swimming in. Location was good and breakfast was the typical, selective but edible, breakfast that many hotels serve. We won't be reserving there again.
This parking spot, like all of the others at this hotel, now will cost you an extra $12 per night. I didn't notice it in the description, so it's kinda on me. However, it's still a really stupid way to charge more, while appearing to be less expensive. This is laid back, seldom overcrowded Amelia Island, not a major sporting event or anything in the middle of a large city. There's no need for a parking fee. The breakfast isn't quite as good as it used to be, but it's still ok and free. They have done a bit of remodeling to the place and it looks nice. All that said, we've stayed at this hotel many times over. It has always been our "go to" place on the island, when it was Comfort Suites. It's still a nice, clean hotel, in a fantastic, family friendly location. Normally, it is still a good place to stay for the money. Main Beach Park is one of my favorite places on earth.
DO NOT STAY HERE! Normally I don't leave reviews, even if a place is a little under par for what I was expecting. However, this place was so bad/frustrating that I needed to leave a review. PAID PARKING: We were not told this until we arrived, but there is a parking fee. There is free parking near the beach and one lot behind the hotel, however if you want to park on the hotel property you need to pay for parking. It was ~$13 per car per night, and since we had 2 cars and stayed 2 nights it ended up being over $50 just in parking costs. CHECK IN: When we went inside to check in there was only one person working the front desk, and she was on the phone. She said she would be right with us, so we stood there waiting. We ended up waiting over 30 minutes for her to get off the phone (and I guess no one else was able to check us in). By the time we actually checked in it had been ~45 minutes. CLEANLINESS: The room did not look like it had been cleaned, or if it had, it was just a quick pass through. There was crumbs on the ground, gum stuck to the nightstand, no soap in the bathroom, 2 bugs (1 dead 1 alive), and overall did not look great. 6AM ALARM: The previous guest decided it would be great to set the hotel clock alarm for 6am, and on full volume. I know this is likely not the hotel's fault, but it was really frustrating getting woken up at 6am to a blasting alarm clock. On top of that, there were 2 alarms set, and it took us a few minutes to actually turn them off (not just snooze). CHECKOUT: Checkout wasn't quite as bad, but still involved about 10 minutes of waiting. LEAVING: When we finally loaded up and were about to leave the parking lot, we realized there was a car blocking the back entrance/exit. For some pretext, this hotel has a front entrance, a front exit, and a back entrance/exit. The front entrance is fairly steep, and I scraped my car coming in to the hotel. The first time I tried to leave (through the front exit) I realized there was no way my sports car would make it, but luckily there was a back entrance/exit that was not steep at all. For the duration of our stay I used the back entrance/exit, until it came time to leave. This time a car was blocking the back exit, and it turns out the car belonged to the hotel staff, and not only that, it belonged to the manager. We talked to the staff and asked them if they could move the car so we could leave, but were told no because the manager was not there and would not be back for hours. This left us with the option of going through the front exit (and potentially destroying my car). I asked if they would be liable for blocking us in, and for any damages to my car if I tried to leave through the front exit. They said no... I got back in my car and tried to drive around the parked car, but there wasn't enough room, and the staff came out to yell at us. So I ended up having to leave through the front entrance (backwards) with luckily minimal scraping. I'm sure there's other things I'm forgetting or that I have already blocked from my memory... Either way, don't stay here.
We stayed 1 night here, just a quick little get away. The room was really nice. The location was perfect because we like to walk the public beach in the early morning then spend the rest of the time at Fort Clinch. It did surprise me when I was told by staff that they charge $17.00 a day to park, I have never had to pay to park in Fernandina at a motley I've stayed at.
We called to verify they had working EV chargers When we arrived they had 1 with a non EV car parked there, and luckily the other was empty. Told front desk about the non EV, but they didn’t seem to care. The signs are clearly in front of the spot with the cables, so it should’ve been towed like a handicap spot 🙄 We called about fees for a small 17 pound dog, and were told it’s 109.00 for a cleaning fee? They state Dog friendly, so I guess not really. Young kids make more of a mess than our dog, but no extra fee for a kid. Sounds like a lawsuit heading their way That’s the price of another room, so we left our pet with a neighbor while we did our business trip. At check in she said I see you prepaid the room, but not the parking? I said I didn’t see a parking fee, but I later looked and it’s under the policy section. Hiding the total cost to lure customers to book at a hotel is just wrong. People want to Know the TOTAL cost when they book and purchase something.
Stayed one night while driving up the coast. Near the beach but didn't get to check it out. Small, outdoor pool. The facility is in need of a refresh and construction supplies were around, so maybe that's happening. Sound insulation is not great, but people next door piped down at a reasonable hour. Our room was comfortable and clean. Good breakfast including biscuits and gravy.

The location and service at this hotel are great, but the pictures must have been taken awhile ago, and the rooms need updating. Our room smelled of mildew from the moment we got there. I know this happens close to the ocean but this is why maintenan
We've been following Betty for years! So I think that in itself says we're pretty impressed! Personally what is most valuable to me is that Betty will meet you where you're at. She believes in you and encourages you. When you feel like you can't
