Super 8 by Wyndham Mankato - Featured Reviews (462)
I stayed at Motel 8 in Mankato, MN, and it was a pretty disappointing experience. Check-in is at 1 PM, so I came back around that time after arriving earlier at 8 AM. The customer service was meh, not much talking, but they did take my car information for some reason. I got two keys for my room and as I walked further into the building, it smelled horrendous. The hallway wasn't lit up, and it had a stench. When I walked into the room and turned the light on, it was barely visible, and one of the lights didn't work. The window faces the back parking lot, so there's no privacy. The bed feels kind of hard. You do get a table, microwave, TV, and fridge, so I can't complain about that. Overall, the area feels sketchy, being on the side of a highway, and the looks I got from everyone were crazy! For two nights at around $60, it just doesn't seem worth it. Additionally, I noticed bugs flying in the room and hallway, which was a bit off-putting. Also, it states online that they serve breakfast, but they don’t. Despite these issues, the overall experience was still quite disappointing.
OMG...the filthiest, smelliest place I've every stayed. Dirty, sticky, and littered throughout both hallways and the room. Tub filled with loads of black dirt and clogged. Handfuls of dust were behind the nightstand with one broken outlet. Couldn't even see out the windows they were so dirty. It was cold in our room, and when we tried to adjust the AC, it quit and smelled like it was on fire before sputtering out clouds of mold/dirt. I came home and scrubbed up both myself and everything I took in that place. Honestly, I wonder if whoever owns it will continue running it as is and then just burn it to the ground (trust me, it's close to the point of no return).
This hotel doesn't even deserve a 1 star. When we arrived we went to our room right away since we were tired of our adventures and we had kids with us. When we entered the room, right away we know we couldn't stay in that place. We were so afraid to touch any of their filthy things there. The carpet looks like it has not been. cleaned since WW1. The rooms smelled so disgusting we had to leave right away. We booked and stayed at another hotel for the night .
I had low expectations of a Super 8 to begin with, but was all that was available on the short notice I had to book, and somehow this place managed to be far worse than I could have guessed. The smell was awful from the moment you open the front door. The lobby, hallways, and room was dirty. The window in the room was so dirty you could hardly see out it. Half of the lights in the room didn't work, the light fixture in the bathroom was missing bulbs, the toilet paper dispenser fell off the wall as soon as you touched the paper. The carpet was so nasty I wouldn't walk on it without shoes. I cancelled the 2nd night of my stay and opted to commute 2 hours each direction for the rest of my trip vs spend another minute in this place. 1 star rating is too high in my opinion, but this won't let me give 0.
Positive: Nothing. Negative: I had to sleep with my face under the covers to evade the putrid smells wafting into the room under the door from the hallway. I am not lying when I say that I gagged several times while suffering through the stench.
Excellent service from the night clerk! This is an older building, but in my view, an attitude of hospitality is much more important for a hotel, and I got that experience here. It’s also right next to the Happy Chef restaurant, which has a good breakfast and opens at 6 AM, and the hotel is convenient to the highway as you come into Mankato from the north. AND, its dog friendly hospitality, for a small upcharge.
We checked in. Went to our room. Smelly, dirty, mold, and not kept up. Was in the room less than 5 minutes and checked out. Don't stay there. Surprised that Wyndham has their name on it. Needs an upgrade and a thorough cleaning .
This hotel was disgusting. The room smelled terrible. Everything was broken. There was no outlet to use that wasn't broken. There was no breakfast like they say. The only good thing was the staff. They were all very friendly and helpful.
This place was very cleaned! I love the extras in the room. They make sure you are good. Front desk staffs are nice. Stayed here only for one night due to work event. Also have good hot breakfast 6-9am!
