Super 8 by Wyndham Arcata - Hotel in Arcata - 4887 Valley W Blvd, USA

We would not recommend this hotel. The first room we were given had a very strong smoke smell, but when we asked, we were moved to a much better smelling room. The hall and the room left a little to be desired as far as cleanliness and upkeep. Our bathroom door had a hole in it, and the bathtub was not in good repair. We were next to a McDonalds drive through, so it wasn't very quiet.

It is what it is, a cheap motel. The carpets are stained in many places, they look disgusting. You have to walk all the way down a long hallway to get to your room if it's at the end because there's only parking at one end of the building. The fixtures in the bathroom were in bad shape and installed incorrectly, it was difficult to get hot water. The TV is so old we couldn't even plug in an external HDMI source. The view was of the driveway and the blank wall of another cheap motel next door. I had to pay $225 to add one more night to our stay, which is a ridiculous price for a place like this. The bed was fine, the A/C unit was good, and there was enough space in the room. The staff were helpful.

I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the room, given Super 8’s reputation. The front desk clerk was also friendly & gave us some good tips on where to see the redwoods. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because although the rooms were relatively clean, there was still a lot of unclean areas / spots (bathroom, luggage holder, floors)

Breakfast is not what it claims. There is no breakfast room. You get coffee with nasty oatmeal and rotten bananas. They don't tell you about the house cleaning policy. Your do not disturb sign must be off by 8am or your room won't be serviced. I got there very late at night and was not told about this. The floor was nasty that I had to wear my socks in there. There's a lot of homeless the outside trash cans were overflowing and people going through them. You can hear everything. If I could have canceled and gone elsewhere I would have but nothing was available in 100 miles.

The bed was excellent, very comfortable and clean. The building is older and hasn't been remodeled. Carpets are old but holding up. The room smells like old cigarette smoke although they gave very specific instructions that smoking is prohibited. The bathtub in our room had huge chunks of plastic on the floor of the tub that had chipped off. They tried to repair or cover it up with a thin sheet of white plastic that stuck to the floor of the tub but it had huge holes/rips in it and when you stepped on it, it would peal up and stick to your feet. The front desk gave me a bath matt towel to line the bottom of the tub with as a "fix". Was expecting them to clean our room during our stay but it was left untouched. Nice central location, very close to the University and town. Fast food, restaurants and gas very close by.

Positive: The guys on the front desk are nice and the ladies who clean the rooms are very nice Negative: That?s why I want a refund of my money because I was paying for a room with ac. And I was treated in very mean way instead to be offered for helpOr ask what I need it.

The rooms in this Super 8 show some age, but they were clean and sanitary. Good value for the price. The service was really great. Our heater stopped working and the staff immediately helped us move to another room.
