Nice park for short hikes. Right now you'll need to get through a 10 foot wide water crossing at the start of the main hiking road (see photo & video). Wear boots or be prepared to hop across. Parking lot is dirt and has a few large potholes.
If this park is a hidden gem for some, I’m not sure it is viewed that way by outsiders like us. As far as CT State Parks go, I was really surprised at how poorly marked and maintained this park was. We arrived to do some easy hiking with our infant (in a carrier) and our dog (we came here only after Burr Pond was closed for capacity).
Right when you arrive in the parking lot, the tattered and torn map was a sign of what the rest of the park would be. The map itself doesn’t even identify what all of the symbols are on it (the legend is lacking).
We started our walk toward what we assumed was the proper trails, only to find ourselves in a former abandoned parking lot (kind of strangely cool, but not on the map, so we were lost). We walked for about 20 minutes on what we thought was the blue trail, only to realize it was an old access road that didn’t lead to anywhere.
We figured we would end the trip by the water we saw at the beginning so the dog could cool off. That’s when we found the first yellow trail marking. We were WAY off course and only found it by chance.
Once walking the yellow trail, we found it really lovely. But we wasted our day lost on access roads and had to call it quits. When we realized where we should have made a turn, we concluded it was rotten posts with absent markers that kept us from knowing where the trails are.
This place would probably be a gem if it were just touched up a bit.
A nice balance of flat, easy trails and more challenging options. The yellow and red trails are not very well maintained. These are best for older children and experienced hikers. The pond area is great for younger kids. Very dog friendly, with leashes.
Went for a walk with dogs on a cold and rainy day and ended up falling in love with the simple splendor of this oasis. The trails were misdy at places and had to use roughly made platforms from fallen trees to keep dry, but made due. The little waterway and the rising hills to the side created a lovely get away. Looking forward to exploring smaller blue and yellow blazed trails later.
Cool place to go on a walk, or hike, and the day we went there were a lot of bikers. the trails looked really sweet for some experienced riding. had a great time walking through the trails with our dog, keep an eye out for those bikers and definitely don't let your dog off the leash!
Wonderful trails along the river, through streams and marshes - followed the yellow trail all around the marsh with Osprey nests, tons of moss covered rocks - peaceful!
Beautiful park with several nature trails. If you stay on the paved road you will come to a pond and nice open field. They only downside is many people that being their dogs so not clean up after them, but the town tries to maintain it and the paths after always mowed.
Love this spot for an easy walk, or a quick trail through the woods. A pond and river for pets to cool off in. Lots of dogs visit here. You'll likely see other wildlife here too, like osprey beavers, and bears.

Clean, cozy, authentic Greek food served by friendly, upbeat staff. Loved the Greek music, or more likely a streaming Greek radio station, playing at just the right volume in the background. We went at 2:30 on a Friday so there were maybe three other

Batchy is catchy! (My way if saying this place has my future business)
It's a big black truck, so we were not sure if they were a solid location but they seem to always be there - and from what we tasted they have nothing but good coffee.
