Sugarloaf Campground II - Campground in Twin Mountain - Campground Rd, USA

We just finished our annual camping trip to our favorite campground in the White Mountain National Forrest. For the past 26 years the Camp Ground Hosts ran a great family and safe campground. She was firm but ran a safe and friendly campground. But this year the rowdy crowds moved with her retirement. Speeding thru the campground and load music playing. Basically a just I don't care attitude about the other campers. In the past 26 years this would have never happened. The Host would have warned them first, then have gotten them out of the campground. While I love this campground that's in the heart of the mountains. I can't really recommend it as a safe family campground anymore. But like everything in sociality, it's being ruined by the inconsiderate and shellfish!

This is probably my favorite campsite in the white mountains. It's a state site, so it's very inexpensive. There are multiple bathrooms (not chemical toilets) and water stations.. It's very quiet, relatively close to 93, and there's access to the Saco River. Pet friendly too, as most state sites in NH are.

One of my favorite campgrounds in the White Mountains but the road up has gotten progressively worse. It was so bad this trip I really don't know if I'll be back. Unfortunately my camping vehicle is also my travel vehicle and I like to leave the campground and explore during the day and return at night, so driving down the road twice a day honestly was too much. I may not be back for that reason but it's still one of my absolute favorites campgrounds.

Nice place to camp but the hosts do not do much here. No effort to clean or rake the campsites after campers leave. Firepits full of ash. High grass and dead leaves all around each campsite. Dead tree's around numerous campsites. Very neglected here. We saw the host drive around once while there for 3 days and that was to chk the reservations.

We have been camping at this campground for the past ten years. The sites are always clean and so are the bathrooms. The hosts are very knowledgeable of the area and surrounding trails. Each site come with a picnic table and a fire pit. All fire pits have a grill grate for cooking. The campground offers two dumpsters, two bathrooms and two water spigots. This is a great campground nestled in the white mountains.

Bare bones, simple campground. Water spigot and toilets available. Camp sites are spaced out well and in the middle of the woods, so you have a relative privacy! Love the river running behind! Dog friendly and quiet. Great place to get away to from the hustle and bustle of civilization.

Sites are moderately spaced but kind of close together. Path to the stream is great, really nice spot to dip in the water. Sugarloaf trail was walkable from campground which is a huge perk! Not a big deal, but no flush toilets or running water in the bathroom, which I thought was mentioned to be present. There is a water spigot so you can fill water.

Usually a quiet peaceful campground that attracts hikers, with half first come first serve sites and the other half by reservation. It's sad to see the reserved sites not being used when others could use them. River is nearby, by the Trestle trail. Campground is near so many trails, closest being Zealand, Mount Hale, and of course the Sugarloaf trail. Mount Washington cogway and trails only 10 min drive away! Edit:I disagree with some negative reviews about the hosts, I think reinforcing quiet time makes camping experience a lot more peaceful, like who wants to go camping and hear loud music, or yelling. It's bad enough people let their dogs bark constantly, like at 5 a.m. Some people come here and just have no respect for their neighbors. Sound carries through the campground. Also, it has to be strict with coolers and bears! Bears know what coolers are meant for. They love people food and will try to sneak off with it. A fed bear is a dead bear. Thank you Hosts for keeping these 2 campgrounds in order! Camping here in the fall is my favorite time for sure, it gets chilly in the mornings but that's what a nice campfire is for. Like I said before it's so peaceful here most of the time unless you get some campers that have no regards to beauty and peacefulness here and ruin it for everyone. Not being a prude but please remember people that go camping want to get away, and enjoy the serenity and peacefulness of what the White mountains can offer. Update Took a star away: Camped the week of August 1-5, everything was peaceful until Fri the 4th when 2 large groups of college students from MA kept me, and I'm assuming the whole campground up past 1 a.m with just being loud, slamming there car doors, walking around and just having no regards for anyone who may be sleeping. I asked them to please lower it several times very nicely explaining that my daughter and I were planning on hiking Mount Washington next day. Got ignored. Tried to get camp host up, but he would not answer camper door. I'm pretty certain the couple who run the campground took off that day and there was a fill in, because they would never put up with that, it was unfortunate and it ruined my camping trip and my planned hike, and we went home the next morning. I will make sure never to camp there again if the original camp hosts are not there, Thanks to the group of college students, they probably ruined many peoples camping weekend, (they were 4 campsites from me) and to the camp host who was oblivious to all the noise they made late into the night!
