Steel Creek Park & Family Campground - Campground in Morganton - 7081 NC-181, USA

My family and I have spent the past 4 months at the campground. We have had a wonderful experience. The staff has been so helpful and supportive. The facilities are clean and well kept. The grounds are expertly groomed weekly. Overall this has been a pleasant, fun filled experience! I will definitely be coming back next year!!

I wanted to update my review because the owner of Steel Creek Park and Family Campground reached out and took the initiative to personally call me and offer a refund for the night we didn't stay because we left early, and also they refunded us the lock fee. They also apologized for what happened, and said the owners and usual managers were not there during our stay (sorry I thought I had talked to the owner when we left early). I really appreciated this a lot, not many places will do this, so wanted to update my review accordingly. I would still really recommend NOT giving up your locked site to accommodate them if staying here. If you do move to accommodate them, get in writing where your new site is so there isn't the mix-up which occurred to us. I do appreciate the really excellent customer service by the owner, so despite this negative experience, I do hope to stay again, but keeping my locked site :-) Previous review: Steel Creek campground is not honest and just wants your money is my experience of this past weekend. It short summary I tried to help them out by moving from my locked site and they lied about another site being available and left me in an undesirable site . We are very seasoned campers ( camping multiple times every month) and this was the worst experience we’ve had. We have a 9 month old so I knew we needed a site with shade, near bathrooms etc just to make things pleasant. I booked well in advance and called to ask which sites have shade. They told me BP5 is a very nice site by the water and shade and so I booked this site and paid the lock fee in order to have the site. The afternoon of arrival they called and asked if the Girl Scouts could use our site. I said I needed a site with shade but would be okay moving as long as our site had shade. The told me we can stay in BP1 which has shade We arrived and BP 1 was no longer available and they wanted to put us in BP 2 . They claimed it had shade from a small tree ( it did not) they also offered a site very far away from the bathroom which was not ideal with our daughter . We ended up taking the sunny spot by the bathroom because I was in the area to run a race and leaving to go home didn’t make sense. But I regret not just turning around and demanding our money back after being stuck in this site. It was a miserable weekend and we left early. I essentially paid 110 dollars to be miserable. And it is really frustrating because we booked so far in advance to have shade for our daughter. The worst part was the attitude of the owner. When I went to complain he made every excuse under the sun and was smiling and laughing at me. Clearly all he cared about was his money. I hope everyone who reads this will put their business elsewhere.

On 8/25/23 - 8/27/23, WE went camping for the first time this year and left early that sunday morning. Which turned into a nightmare for my family on the following Monday 8/28/23 we had a social worker come out to investigate my family due to steel creek making a HUGE mix up on giving the wrong site number and wrong information to dss. AND All Steel Creek had to say was they are sorry!! Our life was turned upside down for over two weeks due to Steel Creek giving out wrong information. Shouldn't Steel Creek make sure they give the right information to a department like child protective services? The case was eventually closed because we were the wrong family, but now dss says it will always be on my husband's record with them that he was investigated for child abuse even when we were the wrong family to start with! a weekend that was supposed to be a nice and relaxing vacation turned into my husband having to lose time at work, lawyer fees, and emotional distress for my family. My husband tried to contact Steel Creek after everything was over, but they are screening his calls and staying silent on this situation. The very least they could have done was offer a refund of our stay if not more for everything steel creek has put us through. All of this was due to Steel Creek giving wrong information to the Department of Social Services! Be very aware because this can happen to you! This could be your information given next! I've been going to steel creek since I was a little girl and I'll never go back or recommend this camp ground to anyone and will always tell my story of the wrong steel creek camp ground has put us through especially since the owner Joey has not even reached out to my husband for the trouble his camp ground has caused my family! A little business suggestion for you if at any time a department like social services is calling you for information, you need to make sure yourself and / or your employees are giving out the right information. And to your employees who give false information should be fired! This was an awful situation this camp ground put us in! SHAME ON YOU, STEEL CREEK!||||On another note our site was also full of dog crap, people who stay here with dogs are supposed to clean up after them and 90% of them never do so just know if you do choose to stay at this campground have plans on dodging dog crap during your stay. If it's not dog crap you will hear of the many dogs barking the whole time during your stay, which is annoying when you are trying to relax with your family.

This place is extremely overpriced for the amenities, but be prepared for dogs, dog mess everywhere the staff also mishandled private information causing major problems only to say sorry, at the least could have offered a refund for the stay, but offer to help pay for loss of work and lawyer fees would have been professional, all due to negligence of the staff, be careful it could happen to you!! They would gladly give out your personal info like address, phone numbers or even credit card info to anyone that call and ask.......

Good people there but far from Morganton. Kind of expensive to stay there. Weekends during the summer are packed with people. A lot of the weekend warriors tend to be up late partying. Also a lot of people walk through you’re site without permission.

We love Steele Creek. Our family has been camping for over 20 years. Steele Creek is our favorite. ⛺🔥🏕️

The smell was horrible. The sewer Was running like a river at time straight into the creek.people walking were walking through sewer water when i talked someone all thet asked was am I a permanent camper. Told them people were walking through it bare foot and they needed to put a sign up it wa ignored

Great proximity between Linville Falls and Morganton. Full hook ups. Very tight spots. Nowhere to relax. Very busy campground. WiFi is only good in a few spots. Clean bathrooms. No real complaints. Just not my scene. I was told that my spot would have plenty of good WiFi. Totally incorrect. If you choose to camp here and need WiFi, enter at your own risk.
