I really enjoyed my stay here. First time in San Diego for a 5 day conference and I couldn’t have been more impressed and comfortable with the hostel. Definitely exceeded expectations and hands down will love to stay again without second guessing. Super clean, perfect privacy, everything you may need and more, very helpful and welcoming staff. Carlos even helped with my bags and answered any questions that I had. And helped me send out an extremely important document needed to be sent out on the East Coast. Great atmosphere of people coming and going. Most importantly, I felt safe and well respected as a woman traveling alone. Will highly recommend and can’t wait to see y’all again!

This was our first hostel experience and it was really GREAT. The entire facility was very clean and comfortable. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The beds are EXTREMELY comfortable, and it was surprisingly quiet considering it was a full house. The bathroom/toilet facilities were really clean and spacious and the separate vanity area was a very nice touch. We would definitely stay here again.

The place is very quiet. The rooms are shared however each bed has its own curtain which gives complete privacy, although the beds are a little soft. The locker does not require a lock. The bathroom is spacious and the showers have plenty of space, it has many common areas to use them, they offer towels. However, I got a dirty one.

Location: you know how it is Location Location Location is always key, well this hostel is so close to ghetto, being on 14th Street, a sad conglomeration of homelessness and crime. I saw a worker having to go after a bystander that seemed to have been waiting for anyone to come out of the place, then a biker stole a displaced person's handbag (appeared to have passed out under the influence outside the premises). ||||Staff: I liked Carlos and Ricky a lot, both were always very helpful, accommodating, so was the darker lady at the front desk and the cleaning attendant. I would have problems with my NZ phone to rebook and extend my stays, both would just take care of my reservation by phone and they would email me the confirmation. This happened twice as I extended my stay for a total of 3 weeks. Unfortunately when I tried to do the same through a new worker on the phone (I apologize to not know his name), he sternly asserted that Ricky and Carlos should not be taking reservations by phone. I politely tried to explain myself that I've always had problems with my phone, that I was a repeat or returning guest, and Ricky and Carlos were just being helpful. My mistake was I had asked him if he was the owner then I realized who he was, through the same voice that I would hear in the lobby getting upset over little things with other guests. As soon as I asked if he might have been the owner or manager (since he kept saying Ricky and Carlos were wrong to have helped me process my reservations to extend via phone and email), he hung up and then sent me the email, which I have attached here.||||Common areas: I wouldn't say they are the classiest and cleanest of hostels in town. If you want a real "classy" hostel, unassuming without shoving the term in your face, GO TO HI HOSTEL (HOSTEL INTERNATIONAL), they are the cleanest, classy if one must say, organized, huge common areas that are not noisy (Stay Classy can very noisy), right in the middle of Gaslamp Quarter and non-profit. ||||Bed: excellent concept of the separation of "quarters" via heavy curtains, but tbh it got claustrophobic if you stay long enough in your lil space. It also felt like a morgue as you enter the passageway of the room with all these quarters.

This hostel is CLASSY just as the name implies. The living space is huge, clean and awesome and filled with amenities like desks to work at with USB ports, sofas, benches, pool table, multiple TVs, etc. The kitchen is complete with FREEZER too (I was able to enjoy ice cream during my 5 night stay). I met a lot of cool people during my 5 night stay. There was coffee either always made or you can make a batch easily since all supplies were provided. The place was VERY bike friendly - I was able to leave my bike each night and not have to worry about it getting stolen from the outside. Bathrooms and the whole place is kept very clean. Staff is helpful and does a great job in maintaining the place. Carlos was particularly great - he shared a lot of empandas with me - he was very friendly. Fresh towels always available. The sleeping quarters were comfortable, spacious, quiet, etc ... This place is a secret gem - an awesome find. Con: When walking from the trolley station (2 blocks away) you do have to walk by some homeless people. Just be prepared for this. Con: Coffee creamer provided is french vanilla - it messed up the taste of coffee for me. I wish they provided original creamer (no flavor).

This place was clean safe and the staff was friendly helpful and always available 24/7 which I appreciated. You get your own personal locker with your stay they have tons of amenities including dry food storage and refrigeration as well. They offer vanity desk with blow drier straightener and hair curlers. It’s fantastic. It’s by loads of places to eat and I recommend if you don’t plan on renting a car. If you do. Please be mindful parking is extremely difficult to find and it can feel very unsafe in the surrounding blocks to walk to and from car. That’s the only reason why I’m giving 4 stars bc it’s a great place but I didn’t feel safe AFTER I left the hostel that’s not there fault at all. But I just wanted to let everyone be aware that it’s not the best part of town.

We loved staying here! There were some things that weren’t perfect but overall it was a really great stay and we would definitely stay again. The bathrooms were very clean and private and exceeded our expectations. There were lots of fun games in the common room and comfortable bean bags. The guests were also very friendly and it felt super safe! We loved the restaurant recommendations that they have posted around. It lost a star because the front desk wasn’t always friendly or helpful. Upon first arriving they seemed confused or annoyed with us even though we weren’t doing anything wrong. They seemed to want to get through the tour quickly and left out some details. Also the locker locks kept malfunctioning and locking us out, and there was one guest who was not really keeping it classy. Be aware that the rooms echo in a way that you can hear everything everyone is doing. And during the day, when the drapes are closed around the beds, you can’t tell if anyone is sleeping so you just gotta hope you’re not being a disturbance. But these issues felt minor compared to the cleanliness and the price!

It seems ironical for a hostel located so close to the most unsafe area in downtown San Diego to be called 'Stay Classy'. This hostel seems to be an in-between place for aspiring locals. The good side is it's clean with a great concept of the separated rooms. Everything else is less than mediocre: limited and noisy common areas, tiny kitchen where you can't move, not enough tables and chairs for breakfast, lunch or dinner and unlike other hostels no breakfast is included.
