Stars Rooftop & Grill Room - American restaurant in Charleston - 495 King St, USA

We hosted our wedding reception in the vintage room at Stars and they made sure it was a perfect night. The food was INCREDIBLE. It was absolutely raved about by all our guests. The room was gorgeous, and the staff allowed us to come early for setup. Our server was amazing and efficient, and ensured that everyone was taken care of. Things could not have gone smoother, and I am so sincerely glad that we chose to celebrate our wedding at Stars. We are looking forward to coming back to celebrate our anniversaries here! Great place for a great dinner would definitely go again. Atmosphere: Really well done. The lights are stunning, and the entire place was simply done beautifully. They really tried to pay attention to details, including hooks for handbags under the bar which is hardly ever a thought! Really nice touch. Food: absolutely wonderful overall. The steak was beautifully cooked over the open flame which you can see. I spoke to the chef about it because I could taste the smoke and it was such a nice robust flavor profile. I added on the risotto, and while as a risotto it was missing the creamy texture and fullness, as a buttery rice my mouth and belly were still so happy. The fries are made in house and are absolutely fantastic. Don't skip out on those - I don't find a ton of fries that I really truly enjoy, these I did. While the salad was not enjoyed by who ordered it, the mussels were simply fantastic, and the sauce was absolutely raved about. Just a touch of heat to warm the pallette but not overwhelm. The manager made our drinks, and while they did not have fresh mint for a mojito, she made a cucumber cocktail that, while not a number one choice for me, was refreshing and light. I could have settled on it and drank it, but she brought me a disarono on the rocks type of drink that was served with a dark cherry of sorts and was really quite nice. The chocolate cake with nuts was a decadent choice and a true treat to eat. The staff was very kind, informative and helpful for our experience. The girl at front was new, her first day as luck would have it, and she did great too. The chef had no problem talking a bit and was quite charming. You can tell he is proud if his work. Something I don't mention often - bathrooms: the bathrooms here were done nice as well and were private and classy. Not a disaster as so many are. I appreciated the full doors.

So walking in to this establishment I was instantly stunned.. it's a nice ambiance good lighting and just a good atmosphere. Went to the bathroom and it was nice and clean, but had no soap. I took the dispenser down removed the lid and it was at the bottom pretty much in a corner. Washed hands came back to table with my party. Ordered some shareables. They arrived but then so did the fruit flies. Was just one at first but then they multiplied. Made eating not too pleasant. I mentioned it to the waiter who was just non chalant even about the soap in the restroom. It's like they knew about the issues from his words but was nothing they could do about it. So that was that. I continued to enjoy my food but then I started seeing stuff moving on floor. They had roaches large and small ones. Again we addressed the waiter who still just pretty much down played the issue. I felt like the attitude was it is what it is and we just have to deal with it. With the price of the food and the type of atmosphere, it's just not what I expected. Nevertheless, I stopped eating payed my bill and left. Manager was notified of our issues and never even came out . Not what I expected from this type of restaurant.

Nice friendly - and very competent staff! We could not get a table but eating at the bar was fine and fun. Food was very delicious and well prepared. We had the steak. Recommendable!

Sat at the bar and ordered some drinks earlier on a Friday evening. The bartender wasn't able to make one of their signature drinks I ordered because they were out of St. Germain. No problem. I ordered a dry martini instead, but she shook it instead of stirring, and there were huge chunks of ice in it, even though there were plenty of clean mixing glasses around not being used. Might have been a rougher night than usual, as some of the bartenders looked a little visibly stressed. The atmosphere is nice, but there are a lot of good bars within walking distance that I'd rather go to for a solid cocktail.

The smoked Ribeye steak grilled to perfection on a wood fired grill is one the best steaks in Charleston and priced reasonably including 2 sides. The presentation for the iceberg wedge was terrific. Housemade apple crisp dessert and the incredible coconut cake/strawberry shortcake topped off our meal. Don't missed the huge Rooftop bar, best cocktails, and a large tap wine selection that is delicious.

Ana was our bartender and she was outstanding. Great service, super funny and personable. Great view, clean and fun. We just had drinks on the rooftop.

We reserved a private room for a bachelorette party dinner for 14 women. The food and drinks were great, and two servers assisted us throughout our dinner. We opted for a prix fixe menu. Our options included two salad choices, steak, fish, and a vegetarian option. We also ordered appetizers for the table to share. We had a food and drink minimum, and food alone wasn't going to meet that, so be aware of this should you plan an event here. We ordered some nicer wine bottles for the table to ensure we met the minimum. Before dinner we visited the rooftop and had a bachelorette photoshoot and drinks. Delightful. It's a great spot for an event.
